I don't feel safe here personally. The new healthcare bill could make me uninsurable down the road. How am I supposed to stay healthy with that?
We are a lot safer than a lot of people in the world. I understand what you are saying though. I mean more- I have food, shelter, safety, the ability to work, to send my kids to school, etc. Not being argumentative, but I am happy to live here.
With all due respect, and you know I love you, but your privilege is showing with this statement. All of those things you mentioned aren't available to everyone who lives in this country. Hell, there are times when my own husband isn't safe because of his race.

i feel like this is a very narrow view of how things are in the US though. Many people do not have food, shelter or healthcare and the only schools available to their kids are failing. The current administration is looking to make things worse for people that are already living a third world life in 'the greatest country in the world'.
I'm not saying that Canada is any better by the way, we have a hell of a lot of problems ourselves and no clear path to fix them
Fair enough. I'm still grateful for what I have. I don't know why I'm getting such pushback overall. I did not support the current president- fyi. I even went out and voted in the most recent senate election...but there will be a run off so I have to do it again.

I have to step away or I'll get upset. I can be grateful for things in my life. It doesn't mean I think things are perfect. Sorry to drop out of the conversation. I try so hard at times not to mention some things on here that would make me seem privileged, but I guess I'm not doing that well today. I'm not mad at anyone I just don't think there is anything else I can say that won't make me feel vulnerable.

activebaby step away if you need to, but I want you to know I'm not trying to take you down or make you upset. I stand by my statement, though. You personally can be grateful, that's not the issue. It's important to realize, though, that your situation isn't close to the norm in this country. You didn't acknowledge that and I think that's why you got the responses you did. Speaking for myself here.

I'm sorry you're getting upset. Backing away is good if you need it. Just don't leave us forever!d

I'll just pm you
Ok.
I'm stepping away for probably the rest of the day. We have an event for work tonight that needs a lot of attention.
I don't appreciate politics right now, but I do love being an American and that I feel safe, happy, and healthy raising my kids. I'm a little more removed than I should be in regards to politics and news, but I don't want to leave the US.

I don't want to pile on activebaby, and I too am grateful for the things I do have and the opportunities I've had (my family is from a communist country, so I can really appreciate what we have here that's not available there). But the state of the country makes me feel unsafe. I'm a minority, my H isn't the whitest guy in the world, and it worries me with the current hate against anyone that isn't perceived as a white American (these are all generalities of course). And I agree that where the GOP is trying to take healthcare makes me unsafe. It isn't black and white at all.
