Birthday brainstorm thread

I feel like quite a few of us have DS/DDs with birthdays coming up, and thought it would be fun to have somewhere to share ideas on:

 - parties - will you have one? Who do you invite? Kids or adults? My DS doesn't really have any friends except kids at DC and I don't really want their stranger parents over at my house......

 - gifts - because really, my DS has everything already and needs nothing at all, but grandparents are starting to ask what to buy

 - cake/invitations/decorations/other crafty things - I am thinking of doing some type of cool cake (mostly for my own enjoyment haha) and would love to see some inspiration!

Please post ideas or suggestions from previous birthdays too!

For DS' first bday we asked people to bring diapers/wipes/formula to donate to a diaper bank. So, family could bring gifts but we didn't end up with a lot of crap that DS didn't need.

@wicky, I love you. I definitely felt that way for DS's first birthday. I mean, he had no idea it was different from any other day anyway, why bother? But then my mum decided to fly down for his birthday this year so I feel like I should make it more special. Plus maybe he will remember something? No, probably not but at least I can make an awesome cake.

And also eat said cake because no way am I giving my crazy toddler that much sugar.

I felt like the 2nd birthday was so much fun. By then, my kids understood what it was and they loved it. But we also go to all their cousins birthdays which helped them understand what the day was all about. I think it gets more fun every year.

I don't really go all out though. I'm not much help!

We did a super hero party for dd at 5. We used a gymnastic place and brought cupcakes, veggies, fruit, and pizza.

We invited all her daycare friends in the 4s and 5s. And added younger siblings. Around 16 or so.

They had a blast. And C had friends to play with.

The place does bounce houses, obstacle course, and foam pits.

DD2 is turning 2 in July. We actually will be out of state- we have a wedding that day on Block Island. She will be staying at my in laws and we hope to do a small cake and get together the next day with just family.

She really likes bubble guppies, so I might do a bubble guppies cake and ice cream. I just don't know who to invite. My family is massive, but I know ILs will all be there. It seems weird to invite H's one aunt and one uncle and not my 5 aunts and 4 uncles...

DS turns 2 in July. We are having a tractor themed birthday party on my parents farm. We may do a hay ride in the evening. Our family is big so we only invite a few close friends (mainly our friends that have kids and we force the kids to be friends)!

I plan to do a tractor shaped white cake then a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing and crushed Oreos to look like dirt with little tractors on top like below.

@wicky DSs favorite things right now are dogs and trucks. He doesn't watch much TV except Daniel Tiger so he doesn't really know any characters. I was thinking of a construction theme so I could make a dump truck cake. That is as far as I have gotten with my brainstorming!
