We drive on all trips including Florida and Montreal. It's worth it to save the money and be able to bring whatever gear we want. We pack a cooler and a snack bag that I can reach and pass out as needed. We use Tupperware as plates/bowls to contain the mess and the snacks are pre-portioned.
We load up with movies and I also pack a car bag for each kid. Usually a backpack. When they were little it included activities in ziplocks so that I could change out what they were playing with and keep things fun. Now it's mostly books and drawing supplies.
We're flying at the end of this month and thanks to you all, feeling pretty confident about the whole thing. First flight I'll have all the help from mom, grandma, sister to go to my cousin's wedding. Then I leave from there the day after to fly alone with Z and meet H at the beach with his family for the week. Gate checking the stroller and putting him in a car seat on the plane to keep him contained.
You got this mama. The only thing that might be really tricky is Z having to wait while you install the car seat on the plane on your solo trip. But the flight attendants should be able to help, and you'll get a trial run on the first flight so you'll know what to expect.

Yeah first flight plan is for family to keep him entertained off the plane while I board and install. Install should be quick and I can strap him in if I need to while I install on the second flight.
The drive home at the end of our trip will be the worst part haha. We're taking a cheap seat on the flight and I'm probably going to have his nice seat in the car for the drive back because he's spoiled.
H told me today that MIL and SIL and baby niece want to come visit next week. I'm excited to see them except H suggested he could take a vacation day and we can all go to the zoo and I might actually die just walking from the car to the front gate. And I'm really tempted to still send Bub to DC in the morning on the other days so we can relax and play with the baby and not have to worry about his nap.
Well I did, flight is booked. I was surprised by the cost of a checked bag on frontier, $35. I swear it used to be $25. So I decided to just pay for one bag and I'm going to take advantage of UPS shipping at work and ship some light stuff ahead of us and get a return label to ship back. Anyway, I'm getting pretty excited about doing a few Disney things with N. We aren't going to do the parks bc July and I'm not crazy enough for that. But thinking we might do a character breakfast and check out Disney Springs. I was also thinking we should ride the monorail, I don't think you need a ticket. Anyway, those that have been feel free to shoot our your suggestions!

vlagroupie - You don't need a tix for the monorail, but you need to get on the property first, which means paying for parking. I don't remember how much it is... like $20? I would try to do a lot at Downtown Disney. Maybe you can do the water park? Not sure how much it is, never done it.

I've done both blizzard beach and typhoon lagoon when I lived there. I'm sure it's pricey and not sure N would really get that much out of it. My parents have a pool so we will most likely be using that a lot and just hanging out with family. I've heard Disney Springs is really fun. And I'm hoping when we do a character breakfast we might be able to figure out a monorail stop to hop on at since we will be there. I was worried about the cost of plane tickets, but now Disney will probably take all my money lol.
vlagroupie the character breakfasts at Disney are expensive. I think for the 4 of us including my parents (kids were free) it was like $200 with fees and tip. You might look and see if there's somewhere more local that would do a breakfast for cheaper. If it's spend $200 on breakfast or $200 to buy park passes and pack breakfast, I'd buy the park pass. We tried to do downtown Disney one night but it was all walking and they really only have shops, restaurants, and one Lego play area. It's free fun though. Also- we were staying offsite and going to just do a character breakfast at the park the day we left and it was a 20 min drive to get there and then the lines to get parked were so long one morning that we turned around after 45 minutes of sitting in stopped traffic and cancelled the reservation. So keep in mind your leave time if you decide on the breakfast.

We've been doing this since D was 6 weeks old.
This is exactly what we did and it worked out great! Guess we're in the minority. But really, I love being able to bring whatever gear we wanted and not having to worry about dealing with all of that stuff while trying to fly. I know some say it's not as hard as it sounds but I just do not prefer it. It stresses me out.

Do you remember what time you had scheduled it? I know the traffic on I-4 can be ridiculous at times. I was thinking a late morning bfast like 10 or 1030 during the week. That way we might miss the morning rush at bfast and traffic.

I think it was 9am and we left around 8:00am. Turned around at 10 and went to ihop. Lol. I felt so bad because DS alreAdy thought we were going but he was getting antsy in an unmoving car and everyone was hungry. I feel like the park opens at 10, so I feel like 8 should have been easy traffic and 10 would be awful. But it was bad. When I called to cancel they said many were doing the same. I would have just stuck it out if we had been doing a park that day too but we were just doing breakfast and then going to the airport. Maybe call the Disney line and talk to them. Maybe it's certain days/ times that are worse. If you did breakfast at a resort with its own entrance, you could maybe avoid the traffic and $20 parking but then you wouldn't be on the monorail.

I'm looking specifically at the cape may cafe bc they have Minnie and friends. It's in the Epcot resort area and looks like there is parking close by. We might have to nix the monorail though. I may try the Disney line thanks for the advice!
