What kind of carrier do you recommend...

When DD was an infant I used to wear her in the K'Tan. We haven't done that in such a long time (mainly because of the thing on her back and thinking it would be uncomfortable for her) and we are headed down to Disney at the end of May, so I am in search of a new one that would help out on vacation.

I had found one a while back that I thought looked awesome but now I can't find it! I think it was mesh, light weight, breathable and it was able to be folded up.


I'm looking for something that will be tolerable in the heat and easily stored when not in use. I think a carrier where she is able to be forward facing would be more enjoyable for her at that point (10m). Do people even still wear babies at that age? I am totally clueless when it comes to baby wearing! 


Also, we will probably have to practice wearing it here because she's not used to it right?

I discovered I'm terrible with wrap-type carriers. I LOVE our ergo. It's not forward-facing, but it's healthy for baby hips (AND they've created a newer version that can be used forward facing at times). I've started using it on my hip so she can be sort of forward facing. (I also didn't like all the pressure on my belly). The original ergo is pretty sturdy and structured, so it's not "breezy" but let's be honest. You're going to sweat when you have a little heat source strapped to your body. LOL (That being said, there are "performance" style ergos that are mesh and more breathable.)

I have a ring sling and while I love it, I wokld definitely NOT recommend it for what you want. I would want something that puts the weight evenly on both of my shoulders for an all day thing.

Maybe a Mei Tai, or Ergo like suggested above or even a Tula. I don't think they forward face, but I think some Ergo's and Tula's you can wear on your back so they can face forward that way. I haven't gotten my Mei tai out in a few months so I can't really remember how much I like it or not.

Is there a reason you are thinking carrier vs stroller? I feel like with the heat you're going to be so hot carrying her around for long periods of time.

I have a Beco Gemini I like but it may not be breathable enough for hot weather (they may have other versions, I'm not sure).

I agree that you'll be able to back carry at that point. I just use a long strip of fabric and different carrying wraps/ties for DD. I wore DS until he was at least a year. I do wonder if it's really the right way to go at Disney. I'd think a stroller would be so much easier/convenient. Then again, I'd probably still have my wrap on hand for when the stroller has to be kept outside a ride and you have to wait in line or whatever.

We are definitely using a stroller! I thought the carrier would come in handy when we are waiting on lines - if they are long.


No way am I carrying this chunk all day in the hot sun LOL.

I also LOVE my ergo 360. It can be forward facing, hip carry, and back carry in addition to the traditional carry. I'm planning on using it for track season (if it's ever warm here again) so I can take her to some practices and meets. It's pretty easy to put on and I feel like she's in there good and tight. Also good for baby hips.

I wore my 2nd son (now 3) until he was 2 and I got pregnant again - mostly back carries by then. I have a Beco Gemini and love it. It's the only carrier I have/need because it's appropriate for newborns and up. It can also face in or out, or baby can be on your back. I think mine was around $100, so very reasonable.

The boba totally intrigues me. I love my wrap and it does fold up well, but this looks like something the hubs would use. I also did a quick search and found this list of good carriers for traveling. The boba is on it, but so are some others to look into.

I like our Beco Gemini for the reasons already stated. Plus the back support is amazing. I will say that mine doesn't fold up well but it still tucks under the stroller just fine.

I really want a Tula or a Kinderpack. I have a babyhawk mei tei and its not bad.

I love love love my Tula. I can carry her high enough she can almost see over my shoulders. I would go with an SSC if you are doing prolonged carries like at Disney. This helped me with the differences between carriers


I would also highly recommend look into forward facing carries before you try it. I can't imagine carrying her that way all day long. Most babies are content with a high back carry

I love the ergo.
My sister uses an infantino mei tei with her one year old and she loves it. It's lightweight and I think it would fold up well. They run about $25 I believe.

I have a boba air and I love it. My 3 year old and the baby both fit great. It folds up and fits in the diaper bag. It doesn't do front facing but I believe Lilibaby makes a breathable carrier that does front facing.

I love my Moby wrap for forward or inward facing. DH loves the Ergo. I'm a fan of the Ergo as well, but when it's hot out, it's too much for me. The K'Tan is good too, but I prefer the Moby.

How much does your LO weigh? I haven't used my moby in a while because I thought he was too big, and I haven't figure out forward facing.

I just bought the lille baby complete carrier in the breathable mesh fabric. I love it so far. It is super easy to take on and off and you can use it forward facing, on your hip or as a back carrier or inward facing.

I also used the k'tan when LO was little and I did like it, but I specifically picked the lille baby because it can be used for future newborn babies without an insert.

We are going to Disney this week with Parker. We are definitely taking the stroller but we also have. Bjorn One that has fixed the hip issues and can be forward rear or facing or you can back carry. It's the mesh fabric so a little more breathable. I also like it because its adjustable so my husband and I can both use it. I can let you know how it goes with a stroller and a carrier when we get back.

We used the moby a lot with a NB, but I can't get it to feel secure with a bigger baby.

We have an Ergo 360, and I love it, but it does get hot. Our DCP doesn't like it that much because of the heat, but also she's a much smaller person than I am, so I think it feels bulkier on her. H feels comfortable wearing it too, which I like!

I tried soooo many carriers with LO, and he hated 99.9% of them. The Boba, which I was given as a gift, scared him when he was little because it's like a pouch they get slipped into and he DID. NOT. LIKE. THAT. Because it took the better part of 16 weeks to find a carrier he'd tolerate, he hasn't been worn much at all.

I did find one he finally liked, Okkatots which I got at Steals for $30. I like that the carrier sort of goes on like a diaper (same theory of how it holds the baby), and he was more comfortable with that. I guess I need to try wearing him more because that could come in really handy on our cruise. But the only time I'd have to practice would be on weekends...maybe we could do it for grocery shopping.

I'm afraid that he's so heavy and my shoulder is so strained from his car seat that wearing him could do more damage to me, though. My body feels like it's 35 going on 90.

I have the chimparoo Mei Tai and I love it! It can be worn 4 different ways and the material is very breathable.

I guess I should have added at the top another thing I think would be important: The ease of getting LO in and out.

I figure if I plan to wear her if we are waiting in line, I'd like it to be easy to get her out when the time comes to get on the rides. That's not a deal breaker though, I can always start taking her out when we are getting near it but still, love to hear how it works out!!

That is a great idea! DD is in her convertible carseat so she goes into our city mini when we get out of the car, I really miss the snap and go which was so convenient when shopping! I think I should try wearing her in the stores that way she will start to get used to it! Just have to pick a carrier first lol!

I prefer mei tais, but I keep my kinderpack in the car for ease of use, it is an SSC. I am hoping back carrying will be cool enough in the summer because I really enjoy wearing her.

I love my Tula and it seems like Alice likes it as well. I've only ever used it as a front carrier because it is easier to get her into on my own but it works for whenever I need it.
