Anyone made anything similar to this? Cast iron handle cover

I was wanting to try one, looks simple. But I just wondered if they would really work well for protecting against the heat. I have made regular pot holders and love them, but just where this one is used with the cast iron and its a little hotter makes me wonder.

They probably would, if you made it out of thick cotton and crocheted tightly. I know you can make good fulled oven mitts out of wool.

Yes, I've made something similar but used tee shirt yarn for extra thickness and wash-ability. It's not going to be Ove-Glove resistant, but it'll be good as long as it's thick.

I would be careful! The look awesome, but I'd be very worried they won't hold up to the heat. I cook almost exclusively with cast iron, and we had to get a special pot holder (and fire gloves). The handle covers I bought at bass pro shop didn't hold up, nor did our normal kitchen pot holders. I do however cook over a wood stove that easily reaches a fire of 8-900 degrees.

Oh I would love to have a wood stove. I love the smell of wood burning.  I bet food tastes amazing cooked on a wood stove.

WVaRN, it does taste good! And sometimes is easier than regular cooking, I mean I need the fire going to heat the house anyhow, just simmer a big pot of chili or soup all day, mmmm! I'll be sad to move in a few weeks but the stove is in the middle of room and a dirt floor, not ideal for a baby, so we're out!
