I have Berber carpet and I want to set it on fire.
We have Berber on the stairs and upper hallway, and one bedroom. Hate it. It's held up ok in the bedroom but looks awful on the stairs/hallway. Never again.
We live in a little row house built in 1938. It has all original hardwoods but the owner has decided it's not worth finishing them. I cringe at the thought of these original hardwoods getting ruined. They don't make them like that anymore.
This makes me legit sad. I adore ancient hardwood.
Preemptive TWSS
Agreed. That is a bit of a travesty. We have old hardwood floors in our house and I love them. The floor is slightly sloped though thanks to settling. So not all great.
I have hardwood floors on the whole main level, including the kitchen...which I find to be odd.
Why is hardwood in the kitchen odd? We have hardwood (ok, actually bamboo. It was cheaper) through our house including the kitchen. It's open concept and would look weird if we switched to tile in the kitchen.

Its totally worth it!! Our house was built in 1940, but has an addition. Seeing the new hardwoods right next to the ancient hardwoods makes me so sad; the old ones are gorgeous.

DS1 woke up in the middle of the night last night because he wet the bed. It took me 2 hours to fall back asleep after changing him and his bedding. I can barely function today. Blah.

what's odd about this? This is really standard in high end homes. Like if you look at really nice spec homes, they have hardwoods throughout, with the possible exception of basement, bedrooms and bedroom bathrooms. Usually powder rooms have hardwoods too.
Tile is shitty shitty shitty shitty.
But srsly carpet in the kitchen or teh bathroom makes me frigging cringe.
Carpeted kitchen was horrible. I could not keep that clean to save my life. ::shudder::
Luckily where I am now has poured and stained concrete downstairs. Love it.
I hate the tile in our kitchen with the fire of a thousand suns. The majority of the house is hardwood that is original to the house (built in the 70s. The floors in DDs room are a disaster. I have no idea WTF happened in there but it looks like someone took a sharp object and just beat the shit out of them. I wish we could refinish or just rip them up and start over with new hardwood.
I am already eating cake. H had a work dinner last night and brought half the cake home for me. I had already eaten ice cream last night so I'm eating the cake now.
I just don't want to wreck the kitchen floors with drips of water. I bought a big jute area rug to try to protect them, so we'll see how it works.
And I'm loving the fact that I live in a high end home. I really should figure out how much my mortgage payment is...
Ah. Our floors have been down for 4 years or so and we haven't seen any damage from water or any other crap that ends up on my floors and bamboo is supposed to get water damaged really easily. Good hardwood that's been sealed fairly well should be fine I would think.

In four years we had no problems.
Maybe next year our floors will start to suck. We have no expectation that the bamboo will last forever.
I want to live vicariously through @hilarityensued and @pobrecita 's home update projects.
I will post lots of pictures.
Right now I'm working on the design for @pobrecita's guest suite. The walls are grey and the headboard and dresser are sort of a mustard color. I'm thinking I'm going to do light grey carpet.
I know Larry happened. Please do not try to convince me otherwise. Please don't talk to me about coffee. I don't drink it. I don't caffeine. When I state my opinion, that is me chiming in on a topic. This is not me saying you suck at life if you do or feel differently. If I want to say that, I will. If I want to speak on you, I will.
