Ooh I didn't realize that was a thing. My DS doesn't sleep as well unswaddled but now busts his arms out. I can hear him over the monitor at night grunting as he wiggles them out.
we just got the zipadee zip. Can't really say how well it works or not, we tried it for the first time last night and baby immediately blew out his diaper in it and got it really poopy. womp womp. He's never been swaddled though, so I'm not using it as a swaddle transition - more to prevent waking from moro reflex (excited for that to go away). He's kind of obsessed with his hands though so we will see how much he hates not having access to them over night...

I can only speak for myself, but for us, it wasn't necessary the first time around. I built every transition in my first baby's life up so big in my head, but they were seldom as Earth-rocking as I anticipated they'd be. We used his regular Halo with one arm out for a couple nights, then with both arms out (still snugly wrapped around the middle) for a couple nights, then to a sleep sack. HE might have woken up slightly more than usual (which was not at all), but it resolved within the week. NBD for us.

This. We had the same experience but we had to have one arm out for two weeks!!

We have been using the Merlin suit for a few weeks and its worked really well. This past weekend LO would wiggle in her sleep with the suit on (but not wake up) to the point where she would end up perpendicular to where I set her down and her head would hit the bars of the crib. That night she woke up every 2 hours. So now we have a rolled up beach towel under the crib mattress sheet that helps to keep her in one place so we're back to 8 hour stretches when she sleeps. I will definitely be ordering the next size up Merlin suit when the time comes.
We have the zipadee zip. I like it bc it keeps his legs from entirely flailing. And it does what it's supposed to for his arms, but sleeping in the crib is something that we are having a hard time with...no matter what he's wearing. I did just order the next size up, so I will keep using it

The merlin seemed pretty thick but from what I can see on the website the zipadee isn't very thick. We're in southern California and it's been hot already and I'm worried about my LO overheating in a merlin. Do you think that the zipadee would be good in a warm climate? I normally put her in a thin sleeper or a onesie and use the blanket from the hospital to swaddle her in.

I've had the Merlin for a week or so, but have been afraid to use it. I didn't want to mess with what sleep we're getting. This morning he only slept for about 20 minutes when he usually sleeps for 3.5-4 hours, so I decided I didn't have much to lose for the next nap, which is almost always micro.
I don't know how long it will last, of course, but he's asleep in his crib instead of the swing or RnP. Yay! Fingers crossed for a decent nap, so he's not a crankypants tonight.

She's asleep in the crib for the second night in a row in the Merlin. Hoping for a good night but mentally ready for a had one. Halo swaddle is ready if we need it.

She did great again. She even took an almost 2 hour nap in it today for the nanny. Still keeping my guard up though. Going for night 3 tonight.
We ordered a zipadee zip to try too but right now the Merlin is a keeper.
That's fantastic!!! I ordered a Merlin last night! I may re-try the Zippadee Zip for a nap sometime soon. It was just not enough for LO when I last tried it. You'll have to let us know how your LO does with it!
I have been following this thread because I knew the day would come soon, well, I didn't have the time to transition slowly because LO rolled over back to belly this week. Eeek! (How is he ready for that already?!?!) Anyway, I needed something FAST since we use the swaddleMe suits.
I ordered a Merlin and a Zipadee, but my solution for now seems to be working. I bought the Love to Dream 50/50 transition swaddle. It has little pouches that zip off for the arms.
So far he has been asleep for 2 hours and no problems.
I am back and forth between ordering the zippadee and the merlin. Is the merlin safe once they start rolling-or is it more for transition only and then once they are rolling they need the next. The zip, from what I remember on shark tank, is safe for rollers.
mrscw, this is copy-and-pasted from their website. They don't recommend using it once your baby is rolling. If your LO is rolling or close to it, the zippadee might be a better option. I will report, the Merlin is working beautifully for us! He's sleeping better in it than he was in his rnp lately. Yay!
--------------------------- How and when should I transition my baby from the Magic Sleepsuit? The Magic Sleepsuit can be worn as long as your baby fits in it or is comfortable wearing it, and is back sleeping. You should enjoy the restful nights and naps until your baby is ready to transition out of the Magic Sleepsuit. When babies start to roll over in the Magic Sleepsuit, this is typically a sign that they are ready for more movement in their sleep, so should be transitioned out of the Magic Sleepsuit. Also, the Magic Sleepsuit is specifically designed for back sleeping, so it is not recommended that babies use the Magic Sleepsuit in any other sleep position. When it is time to transition babies out of the Magic Sleepsuit, they are usually ready to do so, and the transition goes smoothly.
If my baby has started to roll over in the Magic Sleepsuit, should I transition him/her out of it? Yes. The Magic Sleepsuit is designed for back sleeping in the crib. It is not to be used for tummy sleeping. If your baby has started to roll over in the Magic Sleepsuit while sleeping, then it is time to transition him or her out of it. This is typically a sign that babies are ready for the next stage of having more freedom of movement in their sleep.
Thanks userdeleted I checked the website out. LO is getting super close to the back to front roll. I think i am going to try the zippadee. They are still offering free shipping today
