Greetings!
Time again to update all of you on the goings-on behind the scenes. For the sake of brevity, your preemptive TL;DR for this post is as follows:
1. We have a tagline!
2. We have new forum themes in place and more shifts coming. See below to adjust your settings before the old themes are phased out.
3. We have clarified our troll policy. This policy includes what moderators and administrators need to do for due diligence in the case of a malicious troll and the procedure for moderators to follow when handling said trolls.
Lots of details below, but that is the short version. We also have many projects working in the background to continue to build the community, and we would like to thank all the volunteers giving time and effort to help TCF continue being this awesome.
1. TAG LINE
You voted! A bunch! And we thank you for that.
"real life, real community" has been adopted as the tagline for Then Comes Family, and we are glad to have that settled to move on to other topics.
The Marketing Group is currently working on an image to accompany the logo. This logo image will potentially change the tagline font and the basic set-up of the logo. If you are interested in joining the Marketing Group to work on this project, please PM theophania.
In the end though, a logo or font isn't the end of the world. It's not going to keep people from joining and hey, at least it's not comic sans.
2. FORUM THEMES
Did you notice that your TCF screen looks a bit different? We have new themes!
Currently we have 6 forum theme options available:
The original default theme:
GBCB*
Two themes theophania created to play and explore theme creation:
Goodbye CB*
Goodbye CB Dark*
Three themes created specifically for TCF using the site colors:
TCF - Teal (the new default)
TCF - Blue
TCF - Night Mode (an option for low light probing)
Due to the need to maintain the themes and adjust code in all themes, we will be phasing out(*) GBCB, Goodbye CB, and Goodbye CB Dark over the next few weeks. This change won't be immediate, but we would recommend getting a feel for the new themes to determine your preference.
We recognize that change is not always enjoyable; however, we hope that most will like these themes. We've put quite a bit of work into them over the past few weeks and made many, many revisions based upon information from the Marketing and Focus Groups.
You can explore the themes on desktop using the following steps:
1. Click Profile in the top navigation bar.
2. Click Edit Profile in the upper right corner.
3. Click the Settings tab.
4. Scroll down to Forum Theme and select an option from the drop down below.
5. Scroll down and click Save Account Settings and then you're done.
At this time you do have to be on a desktop to change your forum theme. Additionally, we are aware that there is a drop-shadow on the forum title on the mobile themes. We have a request into Proboards to change that, and they have stated that they are working on some updates that may provide more options for mobile.
We want to take a quick moment to thank everyone who helped develop and refine these themes. Thank you!
We will issue a reminder a few days before the big change as well.
3. TROLL POLICY
In light of recent malicious trolling on TCF boards, we thought clarification of the procedure regarding trolling was in order.
When a poster is revealed as an obvious and malicious troll on the boards, moderators will document the behaviors and postings with screenshots, C&Ps, and/or other documentation and subsequently delete the offensive threads and ban the user. Moderators will then share the documentation with an administrator, and the admin will confirm the malicious troll and IP ban the user. The administrators will label the profile as "banned" as well so that posters on the board can see what happened and follow up with moderators or administrators if need be.
Again, this policy only applies to obviously malicious trolls looking to cause emotional harm or threaten members (which is against our TOU). This policy does not apply to when someone is "being mean" or "acts like a bitch" or even "is a fucking bitch" and will hopefully be used sparingly. Also, if ever used in error, a ban can be lifted after review if need be.
Okay, folks, this concludes your semi-regular update on the things happening on the admin end. As per, this post was crafted by wordsy late in the evening PST, so NariaDreaming or theophania may need to jump in to correct or clarify something. Now, off to finish my evening.
