How can you determine e I'd your baby has reflux vs "normal" spit up? I am not sure if my LO has reflux, he is 7 weeks and up until 5 weeks he never really spit up, now he does a lot and it smells like stomach acid/throw up. The spit up comes out his nose and mouth too. He is EBF and will spit up 45 mins after a feeding even (I do keep him up right but it seems like a as soon as he lays down he spit up), sometimes it is chunky milk and other times it'll be clear fluid with white flecks/chunks. He doesn't usually seem too bothered by it but sometimes he makes a gross face and like he has a bad taste in his mouth. I just worry at night cause it seems like he spits up a lot. (** We do have a Dr appt next week just looking for other moms experiences)
My DS had reflux. He would arch his back after feedings and when spitting up. He would get so stiff you couldn't move him. He also cried excessively and was difficult to comfort. We got referred to an ENT who looked down his throat and confirmed that it was reflux.
Most babies spit up. As long as they do not seem bothered by it and their weight gain is fine then unfortunately all you can do is keep burp cloths around.

This. He would suck and then arch his back and turn his head and go stiff. Then he would cry. He did this with every suck almost. Also he would make a weird gurgling sound on his throat.
I would also look into a food intolerance. My LO was doing this sometimes and I have had to cut out diary and soy, LO is BF, he is doing so much better.
I have the same issue and LO is 3 months today. We've had several out the nose incidents which is very scary!!! My guy must be burped really well and I hold him upright for 30 mins after and he always sleeps at an incline. Have you seen the Rock in Plays? They are amazing for babies that spit up. My pedi has always assured me that even on his back he is ok but I can't stand the thought of it. He too sometimes makes a nasty face but doesn't seem bothered. Spit up normally peaks at 4 months. Hang in there! It's tough to have a spitter because you can't just lay them down anytime.
I have 2 kids with MSPI, so I can't compare to normalcy. But I can say that our kids had through the nose spitup like you said, and our friends' kids didn't. Lots of back arching and unhappiness. We do a lot of keeping them upright - no rainforest mat, carseat, tummy time for awhile after eating. They are both terrible at burping, which I have no solutions for but I feel like if they could get a good burp out, it would help!
Since you're still BF, I'd just kind of pay attention to what you're eating between now and your appointment so you could at least maybe spot some patterns. It's hard because sometimes food you eat can get to them quickly and sometimes not, so finding those connections is tough. Good luck!

So the pediatrician said that since he is gaining weight well she is not concerned. She said that it could be a mild case of reflux, or that he's taking in too much at each feeding. She since he's still a baby his sphincter between stomach and esophagus is not fully developed and because he is only taking in liquids and lays down a lot (like all babies) it could reflux but since it doesn't seem to be freaking him out too much we'll just monitor it for now. My hope is just that it does not get worse. She said if it is that he's taking in too much at each feeding, that is not necessarily a bad thing as he gets older? She said as he gets more mobile the spitting up could get worse but as long as he's gaining weight and not in pain or uncomfortable then he's OK.
