I agree that I could have used a class in hs about finances etc. education on credit cards, loans and investing etc it should be part of the curriculum.
Agreed... I'd think that would be a selling point for high schools and colleens if those types of courses were available or even required. Think of the simulation possibilities- srsly.the students could do computer simulations to mimic their future life, based on debts, income, lifestyle, COL, expenses, goals, retirement and saving, etc plus throw on hard times/Murphy's law throughout the lifetime... I'm gonna create a simulation plan if it doesn't exist LOL.
A 529 account is pre tax. So if your kid doesn't go to college and you try to transfer the money to them, they pay tax on it as income and earnings, and there is a 10% penalty for not using it for college. You also get penalized as the "gifter" and get taxed on giving it to the kid. If you keep it- you pay the income tax on it.
My random... Can someone school me in burping 101?
At first DD didn't seem like she needed to burp, so we didn't try super hard... Then we realized that it helped her feel better so we tried to do it more and would get good burps. Except I'm lazy overnight and only do it sometimes.. Do I need to 100% of the time? I generally so it at the end of the feeding, should I do it more frequently? What worked for your LOs?
is there any connection between not burping/ not getting a good burp and hiccups? What about spit up? LO is spitting up all the time this week, and I'm not sure what changed.

DS didn't always let out burps, but to help with the spit up and to prevent hiccups and gas, it's a must. I found that feeding an ounce or two, stopping and burping, then continuing with the feed, helped most. Then of course, a good, long burping at the end of the feed.

I do think good burping can help spit up. We never had spit up problems, so I never burped MOTN because he would fall asleep nursing and I didn't want to wake him up. But during the day, it's probably worth it to work for a good burp after each feeding. Try different positions. What worked best for me was to sit him on my lap, support him with one hand on his chin/chest, and pat his back with the other hand. Or lay him across my lap on his belly and pat his back that way. And don't be afraid to give her a good hearty back pat. You won't hurt her.
Also, if you haven't discovered gripe water or gas drops, I suggest picking some up. Gripe water helped with hiccups for us (although other people have said it didn't help them). And Gas drops are nice to have on hand for unexplained fussiness that could be gas-related. I got the "Little Remedies" brand of both, but I think there are lots of options out there.

I agree with everything JoBub said, including the burping positions. I would burp during MOTN feeds. It never seemed to affect his going right back to sleep. I still use Gripe Water to this day for hiccups, and I also used it for gas when he was smaller, as I didn't care for the simithicone gas drops.

becole, Thanks this has been a topic of our last two meeting with our Financial Planner, hearing your prospective has sealed the deal for me. I know personally college has helped me to get to where I am, I am the first person in my family blah blah (que music) but I also have a mortgage payment worth of student loan debt between my DH and I, we both have our MBAs as well. So whatever I can do to help LO have options is key.

Congrats to all of you first generation college folks. My DH is first generation with his siblings on his moms and dads side. We have talked a lot about how little support he had to navigating how to pay for it and what to major in/ what to do. So at least if you're not using the degree, you will still be able to help your kids navigate all of that, if that's what they choose to do.
@mominthemaking do your own research on the fees with your IRA. That's really where your savings will be, try to get the lowest fees.
Thanks guys. I'll try burping throughout the feeding and at the end. She's def gassy too, so perhaps this will help.
I have those same gas drops JoBub. Also some type of gripe water... I seem to use both equally and I think they help a little.
My kid had colic and reflux and spit up all the time. He barely ever burped. It didn't matter the position or how long, or where you hit him. If he did burp, he spit up at the same time.

I am in the worst possible mood today, and it's because of work. I remember how often I wanted to quit when I worked there in the past, and it was just never the right time, or I never had anything better lined up so it wasn't worth quitting to me. But now that I really don't need to be doing this, and I'm so aggravated with the effing stupidity, I'm wondering why I accepted to take this job back on.

UO - I understand the purpose of a contract (cell phone) but if you are upgrading to a more expensive phone and extending out your current contract you would think they would wave your early term fee... VZW sucks right now!

I'm sorry you're so stressed. As nice as it is to have the income and be able to work from home, it's only worth it if you can keep your sanity! If you've always felt this way about the job and it doesn't show signs of changing, maybe it's time to start thinking about a change? Make a long-term plan to find a better work (or not-work) situation? This is kind of a crazy time of year for a lot of people though. So maybe you just need a long weekend to regroup and a glass of wine.

FTFY.
I'm so over cell phone corporations. All they care about is different ways they can bring over new customers. Once they have you, you get crickets.

I was happy as a SAHM. I kept my days pretty filled, and answered to no one. Now having to constantly try to make time for everything is driving me crazy. And the serious ineptitude of the people I have to work with is on my last nerve. I feel like I let DH talk me into this, when I was pretty unsure about it all along, and now I can't just walk away. It's one of those days that I just want to be alone and cry.

they told me i could upgrade only to get to the end of it and be told i would need to send back my current phone in "like new" condition. 1st i paid for this phone in full so why do i need to give it back and 2nd my phone is cracked so the "like new" is out the window... they said if it doesn't get sent back i get charged 299.00 for breaking my contract and if its not "like new" i get charged the same... now tell me why i feel like i am being double dinged for a phone that is already paid for? they were quick to say if i walk that's my choice and that this is the same for all customers. while i understand that, the new phone won't even ship until the 1st of May and by the time they get my phone back i would seriously have like 2wks left on my contract... i mean really?!

That's so ridiculous. I honestly have never had these issues, and I've been with Verizon, T - Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint. As long as I was upgrading, the cancellation fee was waived.
For AT&T we had to wait until we were within 30 days of the end of the plan to get the phone where they subsidize the cost and renew for two more years. We could have changed to their next plan at anytime but you end up paying in full for the phone.
I had both boys home today so I'm on my second glass of wine. I only caused minor injuries to the toddler, so that's pretty good. Baby barely slept last night so that's less good. Bed sharing isn't really working anymore. He spends the whole night trying to nurse, but his latch sucks when he's just pacifying. Then if he's not latched, he's head butting my boob. This dude needs to start sleeping. On the plus side, he's pretty happy during the day. As for the financial stuff, we use a 529, but I'm planning on underfunding it and also using mutual funds. Between the two boys, I'd like to partially fund their college through the 529. However, if DH gets his way, both boys will be going to a service academy for free.
