Anyone successfully get rid of the paci recently?

Carter LOVES his pacifier. Every one in a while he finds his other one (he has 2) and seriously tries to have both in his mouth at the same time he loves them so much. I want to get him off of it for the obvious reasons, but also because he still wakes up at night when he loses it. I have to get up most nights at least once to go in there, find it, & pop it back in. He goes right back to sleep with it. He does occasionally STTN though or at least not cry if he loses it, but I'm hoping getting him off of it will help the STTN be more consistent.

How did you do it?  Cold turkey? weaning approach? He really only has it at bedtime/naps at home right now. 

Side note, I will be making it totally clear to my DC that this new baby will have NO pacifier at all. She started giving Carter one & he got hooked. I actually never gave him one before that because I never wanted to deal with this part! ugh!

My DD has successfully weaned off the pacifier at daycare. She's still using it for naps at home on the weekend and also overnight. Can you ask daycare to help you with it for daycare? We clip her paci to her sleep sack at night so she has only cried once in the night when she couldn't find it. I don't have much advice, I'm curious about how to do this, too....

no advice. addicted to paci here. What are your opinions on the cons of this at 15 months?

Dd was a paci addict. We let her have it until she was about 27 months because we didn't want her taking the baby's. She was off of it at daycare around 18 months though She only had it for sleeping at night at home. Daycare just worked it into the routine. Once she got to school it went into her cubby until it was time to go home. When we weaned her at home we went cold turkey. Bedtime was a beast for about a week. We just laid with her till she cried herself to sleep. we use wubbanubs because the animal makes it easier for them to find in the MOTN.

Ds2 is still using his for comfort but i wouldn't consider him an addict. Hopefilly weaning him will go more easily than DD.

I'm mostly concerned with his dependence on it for sleep. That & I'm thinking it may be easier to do it now vs later. He will be moving into his brother's room before this next baby comes too, so if we can get him off of it now, then I won't worry about him waking his brother up at night either.  If he wasn't dependent on it, I think he would sleep better.
