Yes I think the universe does sometimes show itself to comfort us. My mom died and her bday was 7/7/57 and my son was born 4/4/14. I find it comforting that he has this little quirk in common with her.
I'm not sure where on the spectrum I belong. I think it probably varies day to day, based on how my day is going.
When someone pulls out in front of me and goes incredibly slow, I try to think of that as a sign I needed to slow down, like maybe there was a cop or some other danger ahead. It helps with the road rage to think of it this way.
After my brother passed away, my step siblings went to see a medium. I've never believed in that stuff and thought they'd just tell you what you wanted to hear to get your money. She told them and my brother let's us know he's with us by loose change. I thought it was stupid, I mean, you can find loose change anywhere.
The one day, I was home alone with the kids, and they were acting HORRIBLE. I had reached my breaking point. So I lock myself in the laundry room and start sweeping it. When I'm finished, I go get a basket of laundry and bring it back, and when I go to set it down, there's a nickle on the floor. I had just swept, so I knew it wasn't there before. I thought about what the medium told my step siblings and I started bawling. It was my brother showing me that he was there with me. It comforted me, and the rest of the day was ok.
Now, whenever I see loose change laying around, I pick it up and put it in my "Jeremy is with me" jar.

I do believe in signs, and some of the PPs have really interesting stories, but I'm not much on coincidences. As Sherlock says, "The universe is rarely so lazy." Which means signs must exist to be intentional? It's too early, thinking is hard.
I voted for the skeptical option but I guess my official answer is that I absolutely believe signs exist, I just don't believe the majority of what people see as signs actually are, if that makes sense. I think it's oversold and they're more rationalizing than anything because the real signs are much more rare.
