My insurance just needed a prescription from my doctor, I already got mine.
I didn't use a pump until 4 weeks post partum as I wanted to make sure my supply was established and regulated. I'm sure this depends on the baby and how the latching and supply is going. I've known people that have brought theirs to the hospital with them. Worse case scenario is you could use on from the hospital until yours arrived.
I've been meaning to ask--- do they give you one again if it's your second??
I had to have a prescription faxed from my doc to my insurance. Just for there Records but they shipped mine the next day after I called. But in the beginning if you are taking time off I wouldn't think you would need it right away.
That being said I now need to check to see where my breast pump is at lol.
