Ok if it were easy to deflate a ball why do the refs not check them before game time - problem solved, yes??
I hate The Beatles and Arrowsmith
All balls are reviewed and checked prior to the game by the refs. The balls are then given to the two teams and they are responsible for them for the remainder of the game.
So basically every time the pats had possession they used one of their 11 deflated balls (out of 12 total balls in their possession).

Yep, exactly, that's why it's shady as hell cbear. I heard the one discussion about 12 balls, thinking it was 12 total (6 for each team) but we were talking about it the other night at home and FIL said that each team is given 12 balls to keep in their possession, so there are 24 total game balls.... which seems insane to me!

I too thought it was 6 and 6, but either way what they did was shady as hell, and 24 is a LOT of game balls.

Agreed. And the officials test the balls 2 hours and 15 minutes before the game and then give to the teams to hang onto. So there's plenty of time for them to "manipulate" the balls (that sounds so dirty!).
trixi282: There's also the balls used on kickoffs and punts, which the officials hold onto, if I remember right. So there's more than the 24 balls you mentioned above.
What I'd really like to know is how Tom Brady likes his balls. I mean, Belichick said in his press conference this morning that Brady would let us know what he prefers. I'm guessing cupped by Gisele but I could be way off on that.

Not sure if this is a UO or just SIWTBU, but a friend of mine who is really religious just posted on FB that their car died and they'll need to buy another used one and they have little money to do so. All of his friends commented things like "God will provide" and "don't worry, he will help you get that car". This just pisses me off. So apparently the extremely poor and homeless just aren't blessed as much? Or God just doesn't like them as much? I guess I just don't understand...

yeah, that would piss me off as well. IT is also contrary to a lot of teachings of the bible.

Yeah that's annoying as hell and would piss me off too (and yes, I am religious).

Those types of comments bother us too. It was the same way when Andrew was in the hospital. When he was getting better, people would say it was because there were so many people praying for him. It bothers me because does that mean all those other kids who don't get well or have bad things happen to them don't have enough people praying for them? I'm religious, but those types of comments just drive me nuts.

I'm stunned. Seriously. Like I didn't realize it was possible for anyone to feel this way. And not liking football either? Laide, I think you may be broken.

Hey I wasn't the one who said I don't like football! I do like football so maybe just half broken

cbear, I'm so confused! I thought sunflowersummer said all 3 things. I think it's showing up funny on the app or something.

Hahaha, not a fan of football at all, but I love the Beatles! I don't love Aerosmith, but I like a handful of their songs.

sunflowersummer: I suppose your love of The Beatles has redeemed you.

summergirl1211, I may not like football but I LOVE hockey! It's the Canadian in me, haha.
sunflowersummer: I suppose that makes sense. I forget that you're a Canadian. Do you even get to see American football up there? Or is it just the Canadian Football League? Seeing that I live in Minnesota, where hockey is like a religion, I try to get into it and even go to some NHL games once in awhile. It's hard when I don't know all the rules and I hate the fighting, but it's usually pretty darn exciting!

The only reason I am somewhat ok with hockey is because of the fighting. I find the rest of it boring...

roo1582, I felt the same way! Then a popular player from the Wild ended up dying from a drug overdose. They did some investigating and learned that he had brain injuries (like they see in NFL players that have passed away), had anger/depression issues and eventually turned to drugs. He was the "enforcer" on the Wild for years. Always the one to go out and get in a fight if a player from the other team was out of line. We loved him and cheered him on every time. But the constant fighting is ultimately what lead to his death. It was so sad that I just can't condone it anymore, even though I completely understand it's part of the game and likely won't be changed any time soon.

A lot of the teams have actually taken away the "enforcer" role and that probably has a lot to do with it. I see now more of the fights come from when someone makes a bad hit and then a teammate takes it out on the person who did the hitting. That's good fighting right there. Plus it's more of a team bonding moment, sticking up for your fellow teammate, instead of just having a guy go out there to create chaos and make fights.
