I know it's Monday but I just thought of something I could add:
I think Smash Cakes are dumb. I like the idea of the babe having their own small cake or cupcake, but to PAY someone to make a cake for the baby to smash...silly.
I think the photos are cute, but wouldn't pay for one. My DS got a cupcake I made, and he smeared the icing all in his hair and made yucky faces when he tasted it. He still doesn't like cake.

I love the photos. I should have been more clear...PAYING for a Smash Cake is what I think is silly.

I meant I wouldn't pay for the cake definitely cute, but an awful lot of money for what is essentially a photo prop. Now some places throw it in free with the actual cake, but still...

It IS dumb. I did it with DS for his one year pictures. It cost me like $35 for that tiny cake. DS was not impressed or interested in it one bit. We had outdoor pics and he barely touched it. I was mad because it got thrown away and I was all about saving the leftovers and eating that for myself. I won't be doing that again. DD will get her own personal cake but i'm not buying a fancy one just to do pics in again.
I really don't understand this smash cake concept. Why not just put a little extra mix into a muffin case and give them that? Am I missing something or it literally a cake for the kid to smash?

If you buy a cake for a first birthday party (for the guests to enjoy) from Publix, you get a free smash cake.

Where I come from, we have a phrase for this type of thing. "Only in America..."
