In regards to anyone thinking of a mesh feeder, if you haven't already bought it, Kidsme has silicone feeders that are a breeze to clean. I've heard the mesh ones are a pain. Just food for thought (hehe)
Sorry to those who asked-CPW is Clicky Poll Wed! I forgot we don't do that here like some of the other boards do.
I had originally wanted to do BLW but worry about choking hazards, so sticking with purees for now. LO did bite off a tiny piece of watermelon the other day, chewed a moment and spit it out before I even realized what was happening. Avocado is only other thing he's managed to "eat" that was completely pureed. I tell you, I am amazed how strong and efficient his jaws are even without teeth!
Anyone try/will try soon Stonyfield Yo Baby yogurt? A friend was feeding her 8 month old it and said she started at 6 months.
We started DS on yogurt at 6 months. We bought big containers of plain Greek yogurt and added pureed fruit. I'm not much for buying all the things marketed for babies. It's just convenient packaging (smaller and individual portions) and the fruit is well pureed, not chunky like regular yogurts. Yes to yogurt, no to "baby" yogurt.

I know, you can find anybody saying anything on the Internet blah blah blah, but I like Seattle Mama Doc, and how she presents info. She's very much "Here's what I would do, and why, but you need to make choices that work best for you" in her presentations.

We do pretty much all of the above, and it seems that LO is eating more than most (just based on posts above). He sleeps 11 hours overnight so is typically very hungry in the morning. We wake up and do 1T oatmeal cereal mixed with a fruit puree. At night, we do half of a 3 or 3.5oz pouch of veggie puree (sweet potato, squash, carrot, green beans). He also gets between 30-34oz of formula a day (he was at 34 pretty regularly but has his first cold and it has definitely supressed his appetite a bit). Just this week, we started taking a puree pouch to daycare. They feed him half a pouch mid-day, between his two bottles, and save the rest in the fridge for the next day.
I feel like it's a lot, but we follow his lead. Some nights he acts like he wants more than half the pouch (we limit it at that, for now), and other nights - like last night - he turns his head away before getting half in him, and of course we don't force once he says he's done.
I did try putting some cut up banana on his tray but he was not interested. I do hope to incorporate some BLW (can we just freaking call it finger foods?!), but I think he's just no ready, so we'll try again when we hit the 6 month mark.

@novalova85 this may be overly nitpicky but there's more to BLW than just finger foods. BLW purposefully skips spoonfeeding purees so the baby learns to manipulate foods in their mouth before they learn to swallow food. (spoon feeding purees, in contrast, teaches swallowing first).

I plan to start with single foods. Banana, avocado, and sweet potato are first on the list. I do not, however, plan to wait three days between introducing food. I think there are enough different tastes and textures in single foods to wait until she's actually eating something to start with blw recipes.
I probably started purees before most as she sat up and swallowed a lil early (my son did too so about same timeline when he was a babe). I didn't make my own food with him but have with her. I have upped the thickness a lil. If it is banana I just mush it but will prob break out the mesh feeder soon. My in home daycare let's me send frozen cubes and they gave Hera few at lunchtime ( between her milk feedings) and we give a few at dinner ( she nurses when I come home and then again after her dinner). She is almost six months so I will give her yogurt then and see how she does finger feeding mushier foods. We also give a lil cereal. I guess my goal is food type stuff when we eat and milk around all that. In my opinion there isn't a magic age as much as a time when each individual baby is ready for such items ( sitting swallowing small motor skills such as grasping etc). As far as allergy foods I'd go by allergies or lack of found in tour family. With my son he was the first so I didn't worry but his nephew has a nut allergy as does his cousin so I am debating on that with baby girl. Honey is a no n ( as mentioned above). Best of luck to all that D14 moms and babies as each gets foods whenever and however it comes about.
She's 6 months now. She's still only quasi interested. I give her purees at times, and today she had some egg yolk and bananas. She had coconut butter and avocado/guac yesterday. I may or may not do BLW. We need a proper high chair for that, and preferably non-carpeted dining area.
LO will be 6 months on the 5th. We have not started solids yet. We are still dealing with his tongue tie, and will have procedure #4 sometime in the next 2 weeks...we are just waiting for the call to schedule it. This 4th (and last!!) procedure will be the first time with a laser and also the first time they are using anesthesia so they can do a complete job. This has been such a frustrating battle!! Anyway, not starting solids until after that, and then would like to wait until he shows interest and is sitting up by himself. He qualified for speech therapy through the state (which I know sounds ridiculous with a 5 month old) because he is not babbling yet. His therapist was very happy we hadn't started solids yet.
When we do start, I plan to do banana and avocado mashed with water or breastmilk. I did a mix of purees and BLW with his older sisters, so will likely do the same. I hope and pray he doesn't have any swallowing/feeding issues with solids as a residual side effect of all this tongue tie drama...
We had a taco fundraiser at my church yesterday and the tacos were served with rice and beans. LO was soooo interested in my food I gave her some rice. She seemed to really like it. Never thought that would be her first food.
