It's possible they, or she wasnt tested previously, for genetic disorders. I was never tested for cystic fibrosis with DS but they did test me either last oregnancy (my loss) or this one, I can't remember which. This did entail a mouth swab. So it's possible they were testing for a genetic disorder or for something else.

I was going to say this. Are they maybe 35 and older now (or near there)? I've never had genetic testing with either of my pregnancies, but I know they really want genetic testing on parents over 35. That might be what changed between the last two pregnancies and this one. Or some other factor, like maybe a baby born in her family that has a genetic disease and she figured she'd rather know this time? Did he also give some blood or was it just the mouth swab?
Initially, to me, it totally sounds like DNA and my "Oh snap!" meter is went off, but at the same time if she suspected he wasn't the father, but he didn't at all, why bring attention to it? If he's always going to accept this child as his than she'd be better off just letting it go. Unless there's a chance the baby could come out mixed race or something...

Just a thought here, but my mom just had genetic testing done & recommended that my brother & I do too. Some stuff can come up randomly that you opt to follow up with immediately.
I mean I agree, shady. But there *could* be a legit reason that randomly came up on kid #3.
