What's your favorite and why? DS is 4.5 months now and likes the ergo (faces me only) and the baby bjorn best (his fave because likes facing out). I tried wraps really early on, but he had tummy troubles and wailed the entire time! Not sure if he would do better now or worth trying again. I've seen some really cute carriers and just wondering what your babies liked best. Any recs?

I'm trying to decide what I should get too. I can't decide between the moby, baby k'tan and a boba.
I'm trying to decide between the Moby and the Boba to carry mine while he's little (until 4-5 months) - any preferences (on the parts of moms, dads, and babies) between those two?
Ugh, LO and I did not like the Moby at all. While I liked how close he was to me, especially when he was tiny, it was too difficult readjusting the carrier and him so I could BF him. It's also way too much material. I also have a Boba 4G and a Tula. I love both carriers but definitely do not need to own both of them.
Boba 4G: very universal (my mom, my H and I can all use the carrier and we very VERY different body types), great straps (quick release and can be adjusted on both sides) and can be used when LO is a newborn (infant insert is included) all the way to a toddler (footstraps are included). I also like that the infant insert is just a removable "pillow", unlike a lot of other SSC where you have to wrap your baby in something before placing into the carrier. They're pretty reasonable and you can find them in many stores. The only down side I've found is that if you wear your LO all day or if LO is heavy, the carrier can get slightly uncomfortable after awhile.
Tula: is SO comfortable... it feels like it forms to your body. I can wear LO longer in this carrier vs the Boba. However, the straps aren't as easy to adjust as the Boba, it's more expensive and you have to order the carrier on line. I didn't buy the infant insert (not included) so I had to wait until LO was 15lbs to start using it.
paxbaby.com has a lot of great info on carriers. You can even contact them, answer some questions and they'll make some recommendations. I think you can also rent carriers through them too.

I loved the k'tan while DD was tiny, and you can forward face with it. Around 5-6ish months we moved to a me I tei which was my fav then. Now I use the ergo (but she's a 27lb toddler). I see nothing wrong with having variety and I've scored some deals on carriers at consignment sales.

I have about every type of baby carrier there is except a mei tai!
My favorite is using a wrap because there are so many different carrys that you can always find something that is comfortable for you. The Moby is great for little newborns but because it's stretchy it is not comfortable to wear once the baby gets past 15lbs. You also are not able to do back carries with a stretchy wrap.
Soft-structured carriers like the Ergo, Tula, etc.are great for long term wearing as well. They are generally very easy to use and especially convenient once you have a toddler who wants to get up and down a lot. I have an Ergo for DH and I use a Kinderpack. Like flcl mentioned, you have to use some sort of an insert is SSC's to position newborns correctly. You can generally get away with just using a rolled up towel and save yourself money!
Ring slings are also great for quick trips, I always leave one in my car. They are super easy to use and you can put baby in and out in about 15 seconds. I don't like using them for long trips because all of the weight is on one shoulder instead of distributed.
Generally, "forward facing" carriers are not recommended because they put pressure on the C-shape of the babies spine (imagine to C's facing in opposite directions )( versus two going in the same direction - ((. Additionally, newborns can be overwhelmed by their surroundings so having them face you allows them to snuggle into you when they need to and look sideways if they want more stimulation. This is less of an issue once they are older. If you want baby to be able to face out you can do a side carry in a sling or put them on your back once they have good head/neck control!

flcl I only tried the Moby and totally agree about the overabundance of material! I have been eyeing the tulas because they have such great patterns. DH says I've replaced my addiction to purses with carriers and diaper bags since DS joined our club! Whatever, #Sorrynotsorry. Thanks

I have the Ergo Baby and maybe used it once. It is more complicated than I expected, feels like you need another person with you to put it on which is not always reasonable.

I will add that I have the infant insert which complicates things even more

eddiegotsole - Once you get it adjusted to fit you correctly and to the point where the buckles are positioned correctly it should be very simple and something you can do yourself. If you look up "Babywearing International" they have local meetings all over the place and should be able to help you with it. Meetings are free and you can get instruction and try different carriers out to see if something works better for you. Let me know if I can help somehow!

Exactly! That's why the Boba gets an additional point but the Tula doesn't.
queenbabee: totally love Tula's patterns... it's hard to choose just one!
I'm pretty easy going with my selections (yes, multiple) I like the Ergo because it's easy, comfy, and POCKETS!
DH originally preferred the Baby Bjorn because it was very easy on/off. I kept trying to talk him into trying one of our other ones because of the pressure it put on LOs hips. He did not like the Ergo at all because he couldn't get the buckles done by himself.... Turns out it was simply user error. Once we slid the buckles further up the straps so he could buckle like a necklace, he became a fan.
He also LOVES the K'Tan because it's so breathable and LO is a sweat box, but she's not digging it right now
I hated the Ergo for the head-bobbing stage. I have a homemade no sew mei tai (Google Hobo Mama for it... You cut it out of felt, so easy) for the tiny baby stage, then once they get good head control my Ergo is my BFF. My 2.5 yo loves it, my almost 9 mo old loves it, DH loves it, I love it. We may get a second because both kids much prefer the Ergo over any stroller, so DH and I could each wear one kid.
DD is so cute. She will say, "I want to ride on Mommy's tummy" or "I want to ride on Mommy's back," depending on her mood.
I tried wearing DD with a moby when she was little and we both hated it. This time around I've been looking at a Tula, but the prints I like are hard to get my hands on which I think is incredibly obnoxious. I'm also considering Lillebaby and Boba? Has anyone here used either the Lillebaby or the Boba?I love the options of carries for the Lillebaby.
I used the k'tan for the first few months, but once DD was big enough we started using the Ergo. I hated the infant insert for the Ergo. We tried it once and never used it again.
I think there's also an Ergo 360 which allows front facing too. If I had to get one again I would do that. DD loved to face outwards starting around 3.5 months.

I have the k'tan but was never able to get LO inside comfortably. It may have been a side too small. The Ergo 360 is working well although LO has to slowly get used to it. The infant insert is a must if you are using it when LO is under 12 lbs. the quality of the Ergo is really good.

@ellabee I love our Ergo but my LO also loves to look out. We got a super cute baby blue anchor pattern but now I'm wishing we would have just bought the 360. I'm a sucker for patterns and the 360 only came in "blah"

Same here!! Except my DH never got onboard with the ergo. He did use it when DD got too big for the baby bjorn. My DD didn't like the moby so I only used it a few times and gave up.
I loved the moby when ds was very young. I am not a huge fan of the ring sling because it get uncomfortable. I absolutely love the Mei tai it is amazing ds is 30+ pounds and I could carry him on my back for ages it is so comfy and supportive!
The Ergo 360 was really appealing to me because of the front facing, but someone mentioned to me that Ergo recommends FF only for short periods of time. It isn't meant to be used full time for a front facing out carry. Which was a bummer to me.

I went out yesterday wearing my LO and I used my Ergo! Although I needed a bit of assistance in getting everything secured, once the carrier was in place the weight was not an issue for me one bit! I must say it was super comfortable and my son also enjoyed it! He was very attentive to his surroundings as we were walking outside and seemed to enjoy having the closeness with me since he's usually he's covered up in his stroller when I take him for walks. I'm sold on the idea now; I mean who wouldn't want to be closer to their child?

Has anybody use the Lillebaby carrier? I was thinking we wanted the Ergo but after watching some YouTube videos and reading reviews, the Lillebaby seems like a great carrier...
I have a ring sling (Girasol) and a soft-structured carrier (Action Baby Carrier). I love the ring sling for the tiny baby stage and now I use it for quick trips and keep it stashed in the diaper bag. I use it for church a lot but am going to start bringing the ABC because having all her weight on the one shoulder for over an hour is getting a little uncomfortable.
I tried on an Ergo and it just felt way too bulky for me but I love the ABC. It's not as bulky, has cute patterns, easy-on and off, and I like that I can cross the straps in back when front carrying. It doesn't face out but DD doesn't seem to care about that (she's never been in a face-out carrier so maybe that's why) and as she gets bigger, I can wear her on my back.
