I am fairly organized and love lists, so I ave been planning what to pack for DS for our vacation this month. I am trying to be both well prepared and pack light which is not easy! We will be renting a crib, jumparoo, stroller, and high chair at our destination. What are some must items (besides obvious things like clothes and diapers) to pack when traveling with baby? Am I crazy for thinking about bringing our monitor and some command strips to hang it on the wall? (We don't have an audio only one)
If the baby will sleep in another room then yes the monitor would be important to have. I think you'll sleep better with it.
I'll be gong on vacay next month, no idea what I'll bring. I won't need to bring her pack n play because we'll be staying with my Aunt and she has a crib there ( and a high chair I think). I'll be bringing swim stuff, sunscreen, some baby food, stroller, teething tablets, infant tylenol, my Moby wrap, and idk what else.
I bought a packet of munchkin pacifier wipes to clean pacifiers/bottles/teething toys while we were on the go for whole days. It was easy to keep in the diaper bag and then I didn't have to carry duplicates of these items. And another vote for white noise, even if you just download an app on your phone or something.
Re: monitor. We bought a $20 audio only monitor for traveling. Has a great range but not the fancy features like being able to play music for the baby. First years brand, I believe (bought it 2 years ago).
Baby's medicine cabinet for sure. Whatever medicines or remedies you have used or think you might use. Sunscreen and hat.
Random toys and books but don't go overboard. It's amazing what babies can entertain themselves with. I'd regret beinging every "favorite" toy because it'd be a nuisance to lug around. Plastic rings are easy to pack and have in every purse and bag to keep lo entertained.
I pack very light for vacation. I hate lugging crap that doesn't get used. Idk if you are BFing or not, but I love not having to pack bottles and all that stuff. I would bring Tylenol, a couple of toys, pacifier wipes, hand sanitizer (for you, in case you do a diaper change in the car and can't wash your hands), hat, a thin blanket (for nursing, draping over the car seat, etc.) and carrier. Also, a few plastic grocery bags for stinky diapers or wet clothes.
I'd just download a white noise app on my phone and bring the monitor.
Thanks for all of the advice so far! The manual pump will definitely be coming with us since there will be grandparents and other family members to babysit
I don't even want to think about packing right now. Only paid for one checked bag for two adults and the baby... I hope it works.
We carried on the baby's bag, which was a zip top LL Bean tote bag. We included his monitor, first aid kit, blankets, and an extra pack of diapers. Luckily, baby clothes are little
I know that I can take my purse and his diaper bag for free. I wonder how strict the "diaper bag" policy is? Maybe I could get away with a large tote.
Things we've found essential these last few days at the beach are a few extra blankets for covering the sides of LO's pnp since we're all sleeping in the same room so she won't see us, video monitor and def something to mount the camera (we're using a coors light box and baby cup lol klassy), baby carrier for carring baby to the beach, beach wagon from dick's sporting goods to carry our crap to the beach, mini diaper bag good for beach and errands, coleman beach shade tent thing, baby hooded towel, swimways baby float, our normal jogging stroller, bottle brush, a couple little water squeezy fishy toys for beach and bath, white noise FOR SURE! people are loud as hell especially with levels above us, kitchen chairs sliding out, kids running around, people talking, blenders, doors slamming, omg its a neurotic mom's noise nightmare lol
I left one side on the back of the monitor so next time I just have to stick a strip on the wall. They hold more weight than a standard command strip.
ETA I never really understood the value of a paci clip until we stepped on an airplane. I had paci wipes but I was constantly wiping off the paci. We bought a clip and the paci didn't fall once on the return flight.
Re-reading this thread. I will be packing today and tomorrow and we leave for vacation on Friday. It's a 10 hour drive with no stops... I have no idea how long it will be and how many times we'll need to stop with LO. We are stopping at the 6 hour mark since we have to wait until DH is off work Friday before we can go (and im hoping we can make it there in 7 hours since it'll be night and LO should be sleeping at least half of the time.
I did buy a Madela manual pump so that I can pump in the car and give her a bottle, hope that helps us not have to stop as much. My electric pump can be used with batteries but it doesn't pump great that way.
