It’s come to our attention that we have a number of boards that are not currently being used, or are not active. In an attempt to liven up conversation and lighten the load on the Board Index, we would like to propose making the following changes to board structures. In most cases, we will be moving posts and combining with an existing board, but there are a few cases where posts may be archived. Archived posts will not be accessible for reading, but we do not want to delete posts and disturb post counts.
Some of these options will be re-evaluated after the website launch, and we can consider breaking out some of the boards again later if the traffic warrants it.
Babies on the Brain - posts will be moved to Getting Knocked Up. complete 6/13/15
Third Party Reproduction - posts will be moved to 3T/IF. Complete 6/13/15
CLNBC - will become a sub-forum of TTA/The Bench (complete 6/12/15)
Trimester boards - will all be combined into a new “Pregnancy” board. (complete 6/12/15)
Baby Showers & Baby Gear - will be combined into a new “Nurseries, Gear, and Showers” board. Complete 6/13/15
HG Sub-forum - will become a subforum of the new "Pregnancy" board. Complete 6/13/15
C-Sections, VBAC, and Natural Birth - will become subforums of “Labor, Delivery and Birth Stories” board. complete 6/13/15
Parenting >35 - posts will be moved to Parenting. Re-evaluate after website launch.
Homeschooling - will be combined with School Age. Complete 6/13/15
Young Parents – posts will be moved to Parenting. complete 6/13/15
Baby-Led Weaning - posts moved to breastfeeding. Conversations on BLW will be welcome on all feeding boards completed 6/13/15
allergies and intolerances- will become a sub-board of Breastfeeding completed 6/13/15
Babies 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12 - will be combined into a general “Infants” board.Complete 6/13/15
Food & Cooking, Pets, Photography, and Healthy Living will be combined into a new “Health and Home” board. Complete 6/13/15
Exclusive Pumping- Will become a subforum of Breastfeeding Complete 6/13/15
We will also be removing the links to BMBs that are not from the current year from the Board Index (left sidebar board listing). There will still be a link for the BMB Year and users will be able to click on it to access their month sub-forum from there. This will affect the 2012 - 2014 BMBs. We feel that this will be beneficial in two ways: 1. It will make the Board Index more manageable for all users. 2. It will potentially decrease the number of random lurkers for the older BMBs. As a reminder, the birth year boards can be used just as any other board so that you can interact with other parents with children close in age.
There has been a request to consolidate newer BMBs into quarterly boards (Jan/Feb/Mar, Apr/May/Jun, Jul/Aug/Sept, Oct/Nov/Dec). There have been opinions for and against this. Our current plan is to watch the BMB growth, work on some ways of recruiting people into the BMBs (we are open to help/ideas on this), and re-evaluate this in a few months. We will create a new post to discuss this when the time comes. In the meantime we have heard your thoughts on a general pregnancy board and we will be consolidating the Tri boards into that instead of a pregnancy questions board.
In general we would like to note that if you want a board to continue to be available, the best way to do that is to ensure it is active. Invite people you know and encourage people to post. Make new posts.
If you have any major concerns, please feel free to voice them- we plan to implement these changes Tuesday if no major concerns are voiced.
