Basically I would flesh out the organizational chart with all expected boards if the site were full of tons of members. And make all the boards with lots of them as sub boards under main topics. And then hide all the boards without activity. And let all the mods of those main boards know that sub boards exist for xyz groups when there is enough interest their board can be made useable.
And basically a rearrange for those mostly still pregnant their birth month board would be under pregnancy And those who are all no longer pregnant their birth month board would be under parenting.
And maybe parenting needs to be two boards. The drinking and having fun and debating topics and talking board renamed maybe. and a more generic parenting help board when you need advice from moms outside your birth month. Cause current parenting is intimidating to lots of people.aybe not now but I see this if website launch brings in lots of newbies.
And honestly I would probably launch a home page with the story of our existence as a landing pad to get new people now.
I know BOTB is super slow, but I'm a little sad to see it potentially be consolidated with GKU. Most of the BOTB traffic tends to be those of us who aren't TTC yet, but also don't belong in TTA because that board seems to be for ladies who must TTA for medical reasons. I think lumping BOTB in with GKU will completely eliminate any discussions about waiting. Then again, there aren't many of those now anyway, so....
I get what you're trying to do, but I think it will cut out a segment of the population.

Not everyone is on the bench for medical reasons
ETA: just looked at the poll. It's about a 50/50 split beteeen medical and waiting for a better time (jobs, moves, spacing)

That was the vibe I got the first time I checked it out, but I'll go look at it again.
I do completely understand getting rid of BOTB -- there hasn't been a new thread since April!
Sooooo it kinda sounds like almost every board you guys are going to do away with, someone has a problem with.......
Clearly this is a bigger deal than anticipated.
If they want the boards to stay then they need to use them and get others to use them as well. If a board is not being used at all there doesn't seem to be a reason to keep it. We are open to keeping boards if they can show regular activity.
@amyg Love the idea about the landing page. That just jumped to the top of my to do list.

I definitely wish there was just a general Pregnancy board, the way we have Parenting or GKU. The traffic on the newer BMBs is so slow. On mine we have maybe 3 threads per day unless someone feels like being an AW. It's so slow and boring compared to the bigger boards. Since the pregnants are not totally welcome playing in the GKU pond with their friends, it would be nice to have a slightly bigger pond to play in with the other preglies.

I just went to the BOTB board and there hasn't been a new post in like 6 weeks, and overall I think there isn't even a full page of posts in the last 6 months. I know the admin's don't want to upset a bunch of the loyal TCF group, but I don't see how wanting to eliminate a dead board as bad or any reason to think it would eliminate a segment of the forum population since nobody is posting there.
It's a great concept board, but this isn't TD, and if there isn't a market here I think it is a good idea to combined.
Unknown, if you keep reading, NariaDreaming pointed me to TTA where it turns out is broader than I originally thought. I also said I was "a little sad" not that I objected. I will admit that I don't even post on BOTB because every time I have it feels like I'm just talking to myself.
I like the idea of a labor and delivery board, but I know that when some women prepare for a med-free birth, they prefer to read positive birth stories and my experience with a c-section was not so positive. Obviously you can avoid threads that might be triggering, but the two boards feel incompatible.
Just my 2 cents
Completely agree. I think there will be a lot of arguments happening if natural birth and c-sections are combined as many of us natural birth mama's don't believe in c-sections unless under extreme circumstances.
FYI, most women don't choose to have c/s the first time around, and many who didn't believe in c/s either and are upset in needing one. I'm not sure who you think will be arguing, unless you are going to start judging or telling c/s mama's their c/s weren't "extreme circumstances" enough for you.
ETA: Sorry, I know this isn't the place for this and I do not want to start an argument, but this just rubbed me the wrong way. I have no issues w/ women who go med-free, and I don't like to think there would be an issue combining boards because the med-free ladies might have issues w/ us c/s mamas.

My money is on her judging c/s mamas.
..."us natural birth mama's" (this hurt to even type) ..."don't believe in c-sections unless..." Uh, yeah. I always wonder how people can "not believe" in something as if it doesn't exist.

My money is with SBB's money.
It's weird that she speaks for all "natural birth mama's." I had an unmedicated vaginal birth but I'm not a judgey twat. So there's that.

You prolly missed the Bat Signal cause you were too busy tandem BFing all of your babies.

I would *think* that since we're all adults (I think) then it shouldn't be too difficult for people with differing labor plans to coexist on one labor related board.
It’s come to our attention that we have a number of boards that are not currently being used, or are not active. In an attempt to liven up conversation and lighten the load on the Board Index, we would like to propose making the following changes to board structures. In most cases, we will be moving posts and combining with an existing board, but there are a few cases where posts may be archived. Archived posts will not be accessible for reading, but we do not want to delete posts and disturb post counts.
Some of these options will be re-evaluated after the website launch, and we can consider breaking out some of the boards again later if the traffic warrants it.
Trimester boards - will all be combined into a new “General Pregnancy” board.
There has been a request to consolidate newer BMBs into quarterly boards (Jan/Feb/Mar, Apr/May/Jun, Jul/Aug/Sept, Oct/Nov/Dec). There have been opinions for and against this. Our current plan is to watch the BMB growth, work on some ways of recruiting people into the BMBs (we are open to help/ideas on this), and re-evaluate this in a few months. We will create a new post to discuss this when the time comes. In the meantime we have heard your thoughts on a general pregnancy board and we will be consolidating the Tri boards into that instead of a pregnancy questions board.
In general we would like to note that if you want a board to continue to be available, the best way to do that is to ensure it is active. Invite people you know and encourage people to post. Make new posts.
If you have any major concerns, please feel free to voice them- we plan to implement these changes Tuesday if no major concerns are voiced.
Re: General Pregnancy board. Can you hold plz a min on that until we have a solid vote for a cool fun name? It's serious. There's a poll.

So basically, the Tri boards will become "pregnancy" and then be exactly like parenting?
The tri boards are ghost towns and not really being used so they are going away. It seems as though a general pregnancy board would be used so that's what we are adding. The BMBs will still be there. I'm not sure how the Pregnancy board would be exactly like Parenting though...

There's currently one big board for GKU and one big board for Parenting (both have sub-boards that are more specific), but there isn't one big board for Pregnanting (just all of the sub-boards, which are month-specific). I'd say that combining the Tri Boards creates a similar board to Parenting and GKU, but for those in between GKU and Parenting. Seems pretty logical.
So you still going to put baby led weaning under breastfeeding even though formula feeding moms do baby led weaning just as much as bfing moms do?
Its a solids feeding choice, it has absolutely nothing to do with weaning from breastfeeding. or is that not on your radar cause of the bmb discussion?

We haven't had a chance to research that change at all yet. We were just updating on the biggest issues that kept coming up. I know nothing about Baby-Led Weaning, we're still talking about what to do with it. NariaDreaming's computer is giving her some difficulties currently and I'm trying to follow all of this with a ton of other things going on right now.

No rush.
Lots of people think baby led weaning means baby decides when to wean from breastfeeding.
It's a UK term I believe and it doesn't mean that there. weaning = intro of solids.
Have not read all posts so sorry if this has been stated, but here is one more argument in favour of keeping BMB separate (not grouping several months together). Yes, babies might not arrive in the month they are expected to, but having BMB on a monthly basis allows for participants to be much closer in terms of gestational progress. Having more months grouped together might change the "who else has noticed XYZ" experience for women who could be months ahead of everyone else.

stahlop - What do you mean "don't believe"? A c-section is no picnic, and it's not a effing Santa Clause that you either "believe in" or don't. I am a mother who has had two c-sections and one med-free natural birth (VBAC) and never would I ever go around judging c-section moms on some "natural birth" high horse you just created. You need to stop and look around you...a mother is a mother regardless of what birth she has, and just because you never walked in the shoes of a c-section mama does not make you any better than the rest of us. In the end, we all have babies, become parents and face the same day to day struggles. I think you owe many of us an apology.

Just throwing in my thoughts, I haven't read through all the replies yet. I would love to keep BMBs separate. I joined F16 about a week ago and already feel close and connected with the group. I am looking forward to sharing milestones with them, and knowing I have a place where I can go and everyone is sharing the same experience as me. Our group is growing in numbers every day, and will probably continue to do so over the next few weeks (I would guess).
