This may be anti BFing, but I'm trying to dry up. It's been over 2 weeks since LO has breastfed or I pumped. I'm still engorged and sore to the touch. I put ice packs on at night but I can't get the fullness to go away. Help!
Have you tried emptying them to comfort? Just once, not enough to encourage production again. Hand express or pump, but not to empty, just to a point of comfort. Also try taking sudafed and cabbage leaves in your bra.

DD has always been a super crappy sleeper - like still getting up every 2.5 hrs up until last week.
At the 6 months appt Last week, I talked to pedi about it. He recommended to stop doing the dream feed and see how she does. Well I dropped it and she's now suddenly STTN for 10 hours. I feed at 8 before bed and then not again til she wakes up. Is this ok to go 10 hrs without pumping or nursing? Will my supply dwindle bc it's too long of a span at night?
WWYD: I pump every morning, usually after our MOTN feeding because DS only nurses one side and the other side is exploding if I don't. Our hotel doesn't have a fridge in our room, so option one is to dump it and option two is to get a cooler to store it the next few days. DS doesn't usually eat the pumped milk since he's not often away from me, so I usually freeze it. I have plenty in my stash, but it seems so wrong to dump it.
Do you have a stash at home? If they can't give you a fridge at the hotel and it's a quick trip and you have a stash, I would dump it. Or...If it's a nice hotel you might see if you can store it in a refrigerator elsewhere like in their kitchen that you could use. I have found hotels pretty accommodating in my experience.

IME, I'm fine if I go 10 hours. This has happened almost every day for the last week. BUT my supply has dropped a little. I used to pump an extra 3 oz. per day, and now it's about 2. I have a decent stash, which I NEVER use since I'm home with DS all the time, so I'm ok. Also, I did get the fridge brought up to my hotel room, but it just didn't work to bring it with to the airport, through security, and home (which would have been over 8 hours with questionable temperature conditions, even in a cooler) so.....I wept a little as I dumped it. It only ended up being 6 oz., but still.
I have a pumping question: I typically wash my pump every 24 hours, even though I store it in the fridge between pumps. What's the worst that would happen if, say, I washed it at 5:00 pm yesterday, used it last night and all day today, and kept it refrigerated and then used it again at 3:00 am tomorrow morning (so, 36 hours)?
kellrr I've done this. I just don't make a habit out of it. As long as it's stored properly, milk is good in the fridge a few days at least. Also, LO is old enough now that it shouldn't be a problem for the immune system either.

I do this sometimes. I don't know if it's the recommended tactic, but I figure if I can keep milk refrigerated for several days then it should be fine if I keep the pump parts refrigerated. LO seems fine.
Can pumping take away milk from the baby? For example, if I start pumping 4-6 more ounces than normal, does that mean DS will have to work harder to get those ounces from nursing? I know everyone says that your body will adjust, but can it not?

Generally baby is more efficient than the pump, so it's unlikely to cause a problem. But, if you pump right before baby usually eats, then baby could struggle to get enough for that feeding session.
Any tips for increasing supply in the evening? About a month ago, DD started nursing from both sides, and for the past week seems unsatisfied after nursing on both sides (pulling off and back on, fussing,) and last night kept crying until DH gave her an additional 2oz of pumped milk.

I have been doing cluster feeding in the evenings, in part because DS has missed some feedings for naps. So, I feed at 4:00, 5:30, and 7:00, for example, then put him to bed. It seems to help get those extra calories in, and helps keep my supply up, while also getting a feeding closer to bedtime so that I'm not super duper engorged if he sleeps a long stretch, which is now more common.
I feel silly asking this at 6 months but is it normal for dd to finally "get it" and get more efficient seemingly overnight? We have been working on weaning off the nipple shield for a really long time. This week it's like she finally gets it and latches now and it doesn't hurt. However, what used to take 20 minutes on both sides is now taking 5 to 10 minutes on both sides. DD is still getting over being sick.
She still gets a milk belly and seems content after eating. It seems like this just happened over the weekend. I want to make sure this is normal behavior and she's not trying to wean or something.

It was a while ago, so I don't remember if it was overnight, but DS now nurses both sides in 7-10 minutes. MOTN takes a little longer because he's half conscious. Also, if we NIP, it's all over the place because he's so easily distracted. We didn't ever have nipple shield or congestion issues, so I'm happy for you that you are in the other side of that!
I feel like this may need to go in the stupid questions thread, but, can you use sunless tanner when bfing? I am pasty and don't tan in the sun so I was hoping to get some fake color before our vacation in May.
I do, but I cover most of my boobs with a big nursing pad beforehand.

So I shouldn't worry about whatever is being absorbed into my skin going to the baby?
Because these are topically applied, very little would absorb through the skin into the bloodstream and therefore into your milk. They should not be a problem for the breastfeeding mom and baby. Do be careful about applying it on the breast – make sure baby doesn’t get any in his mouth.
The spray tanning booths (also called UV-free tanning, airbrush tanning, spray on tanning, etc.) come under the category of self-tanning products. To prevent baby ingesting the self-tanning lotion, wash the self-tanning product from your breasts before nursing.

The BF threads seem to be slowing down a lot. Maybe it's because many have met their goals or have stopped for a numbers of reasons. Stopping BF seems to be charged with so many mixed feelings... it would be a shame for someone to finish their journey and just disappear from this thread. I'd love to hear about when people move on to the next phase for whatever reason and make it a happy new beginning
I need some advice. This past weekend I was around a mother that breastfed her 15 month old. The cute little girl would walk up, pull down the mom's shirt, and start nursing. I absolutely am not judging, because whatever works for them- works for them. But I know that I do not want DS to be doing that to me. I had planned on breastfeeding until DS was one. Would it be easier to wean him earlier? He takes bottles from me fine now, and I know I would still have an adjustment period with him realizing he doesn't get boobs, but only gets bottles.
Would it be wise to transition to EPing until he's one? Is that a bad idea? I just don't want to have to battle with him over boobs when he's walking around and talking more.

Like Anything in baby's life you set limits and you don't allow behavior that you don't want to happen. Start to guide babe to appropriate ways to ask to nurse some go baby sign or a code word etc. It doesn't have to be an anything goes thing where they maul you to get to nurse

I don't think there's one right answer to this. I'm EPing but can't decide when to stop. My initial goal was 6 months and yet I'm still not ready to stop. I wish I had more insight for you but I think it's really up to you and how you feel.
I forgot my pump home today so I ran out to buy a new one...my third ... I didn't have a way to properly sanitize it bc I am at work. Should I just pump/dump so I am comfortable? I don't have a stash at home so I am not in a position to really waste the milk but obviously I want to be safe. Any ideas?
Will you be able to get to a refrigerator within 4 hours?

Yes! But I am more worried about not sanitizing before using the pump for the first time.
I would wash the flanges etc. with hot water and dish soap and keep the milk. This is assuming that your baby is at least 6 months old. I would only stress about sterilizing if you were giving the milk to a premature baby.

I agree. Don't dump it!
I guess I was assuming you don't have soap; if you have soap, just wash and go. I've never sanitized my pump parts in boiling water. Ever.
