Please tell me it's ok to not feel guilty when I STTN with LO and don't get a pumping session in. I don't know why but I'm irrationally afraid my supply is going to just dry up. I have 560 ounces stored but I keep thinking that's not nearly enough.
I also saw where some ladies are doing weighed feedings and was wondering if I should do the same now that she's older to get an idea of how much she should be taking rather than guessing since she almost always cries at the bottle, especially during burping and MIL keeps insisting she needs 6-8 ounces instead of 4.
6-8oz is an enormous amount to feed a breastfed baby. Breastfed babies' intake doesn't increase by volume as they grow because the content of mom's milk (calorie, fat, nutrient density) changes. All breastfed babies have a total daily intake of approximately one ounce per hour, regardless of weight or age. If LO is hungry every 2-3 hours, that means she'll need about 2-3oz (sometimes a 4th).
It's important for your supply that baby is not overfed while you're at work. Here is some info for you and MIL:
I have never heard of an infant beef allergy. I will do some research and get back to you.
Does she have any other symptoms of allergy; skin rashes, frothy/bloody stool, lots of crying, etc.? Food allergies in infants are actually pretty rare.
Are you sure her congestion and mucousy spit up aren't related to a virus? Or dry winter air (do you have a humidifier)? Could it be a pet allergy? How long has this been going on?
I might ask your pedi about a referral to an allergist for testing if she believes this to be a true allergy.
Anyway, your question was about donating. You can search for a reputable milk bank to donate to, or directly donate your milk to a mom in need via Human Milk 4 Human Babies or Eats on Feets.
I would say Emma is sick once a week since the end of Dec. we have overloaded her on humidifier and steamy showers. No other symptoms - stuffy nose and mucousy throw up (whole belly contracts and then she pukes). Sometimes red splotchiness on face. We took her to the doctor who said to track what I eat. It seems to correlate during the week (sometimes once a week sometimes zero sometimes twice) with when I eat tacos (the only beef in my diet). She was very sick for the next 24 hrs. She had said to look for milk, egg or beef allergy. If I think she is allergic is their a real need to see an allergist do you think?
I don't know if this is relevant but I wanted nothing to do with beef when I was pregnant which is weird I love hamburg and steak...
Well, if it's not viral (we've been sick with gross colds off and on since the 2nd week in Dec because of everything going around), and if your doctor does suspect allergy, it may help to confirm that your daughter actually does have an allergy. Many people who are allergic to meat are also allergic to dairy. It could be helpful in the long run for you to know, especially since some allergies can be quite severe/risky, and some persist throughout childhood and into adulthood. I'd ask your doctor if seeing an allergist is a good idea.
The other reason for confirming with an allergist is that if it's not an allergy, you can continue to search for the cause of her symptoms. Certainly avoiding meat for now and seeing if she remains symptom-free may be the way to go, too!
So, good news for me! I'm able to be a SAHM My last day of work is a week from today. I'm looking forward to going back to EBF and getting off the pump. My question: babysitter insists the three 3 oz bottles were not enough, so I left her two 4 ounce bottles and one 3 ounce bottle today to see how it goes. That will be an extra 2 ounces of breastmilk during my working hours than he was getting before. If this somehow does cause a drop in my supply, when I go back to EBFing after next week, will my supply get back to where it needs to be fairly easily?
I've been back to work 4 weeks now. Is it normal for LO's Poops to change? He used to always have yellow seedy poops when he was EBF but now that he takes bottles of BM at daycare while I'm at work his poops have lost all the seediness but remain about the same color. Cause for concern?

@nightowl89 if baby is sleeping, it is ok for you to be sleeping too. BUT if baby is sleeping an 8 hour stretch at night, then baby needs an average of 24 ounces in the 16 hours of awake time in a day -- which means a slightly larger bottle size than an ounce an hour (about 1.5 oz/hour), to make up for the time spent sleeping at night. My Lo drinks 4 oz bottles at daycare, and my first baby needed 5 oz bottles after 5.5 months. 6-8 ounces is a lot for a BF baby, as emerald27 said, but 4-5 oz bottles are not uncommon for babies who only eat 6 times a day.
@dezidee leaving more milk shouldn't cause a supply drop...are you able to pump enough to keep up? Even if not, your supply should increase easily once baby is just nursing again.

My LO has started going to bed earlier now that he is in day care (7pm). Do you guys recommend dream feeding/waking up the baby for a feeding to get longer sleep?

That's totally up to you! I might not wake baby, but you can certainly dream feed before bed. He may or may not sleep longer for you.

Do you ladies abide by the one cup of coffee a day rule while BFing?
I read to do no more than 2, and I am very sensitive to caffeine, so I usually stick to that. If I want a Diet Coke at lunch, I'll have one, but the coffee thing has been as much about practicality as rule-following. I can never seem to finish even one cup while it's still hot! Also, because I am so sensitive, I almost never have caffeine after 2pm, so I haven't noticed any major issues with LO.
ETA: before pregnancy, I drank 6 or so cups in the morning!

Lol lol lol
I didn't even know this was a thing.
I limit to 150ish msg of caffeine a day while pregnant (most sources say 300 is safe; how much is in a cup varies a ton but 1 sbx espresso shot is 75mg). I don't limit at all while breastfeeding.

Oh gosh no. But, if I have a mid-day drink, I'll switch to half-caff. I had a bad experience with DD when she was about 7 weeks old. I swore it was because I had a latte. (Plus, I also want to get SOME sleep.)
So DD has switched things up this week and started sleeping extremely long stretches, if not all night, within the last few evenings. So, of course, my boobs are confused because they are used to her eating at least twice a night. I dream fed her last night because I was concerned about losing the momentum on the weight gain we've started. But she's "snacking" and doesn't empty the one boob I offer before she conks out again. So I can either pump or be really uncomfortable. I'm just wondering how long it'll take to regulate/get rid of the over supply. Like, I'll still get 3-4 oz pumped after she finishes.
I mean, this would be super if I could actually keep the pumped milk in a freezer stash, but, still have thrush.

It will take several days for your supply to adjust, or she might start waking again and bump it back up! You can pump to make yourself comfortable, and can keep the milk you pump. Label it "thrush" for use during a future outbreak (that hopefully never occurs!).
For the third night this week, DS has needed a bottle in addition to bf in order to sleep. Tonight he nursed, slept for 30 min, nursed both sides, slept 15 minutes, played for a little while, then brought him to bed and nursed both sides, slept for an hour and woke up and screamed his little lungs out when I offered to nurse. So I tried rocking him, singing, shushing him and none of it worked. He had 4 oz and then went to sleep. He's having normal wet/dirty diapers and nursing great during the day.
I called the pedis office on Friday for their input, and they said keep supplementing and talk to the Dr on Tuesday at his 4 month checkup. But the nurse mentioned starting foods soon. I'm not comfortable starting food yet. Any suggestions?
If you are giving they big if a bottle you need to be pumping or your supply will decrease. Are you sure it's not 4 month wakeful or teething pain that is the issue?

Well it doesn't seem to be teething, we've tried teething tablets and that hasn't helped. But if it's the 4 month wakeful period, what else can we do to get him to sleep instead of a bottle?

Amy is right that supplementing without pumping to compensate will cause a supply decrease. The bottle flows fast too, much faster than the breast, especially at night. I would recommend trying your best not to supplement. If he fusses at the breast, snuggle skin to skin, walk around with him, or let dad have a turn walking with him. Once he's calm, offer again. When he fusses, switch sides. You can switch again and again to signal new letdowns. If he becomes used to the bottle at night, it may take some getting used to just having access to the breast again.
It can be really hard at this age for babies to settle down and get ready to sleep. They are more and more aware of their surroundings, and interested in taking it all in. Sleep is less fun! Also, they still get overstimulated, which works against that new excitement of taking it all in. A baby who has been stimulated all day and doesn't want to sleep might fight it, might get overtired or overstimulated easily. It might just be that he's had it for the day! Low light, lots of gentle snuggles, access to the breast when he's ready, will help calm him and get him ready to sleep.
Babies are often not great sleepers at about 4mo. Roll with it as best you can, nurse as much as he's interested, and you'll be on the other side of this challenging phase in no time.
I want to try dream feeding because DS is falling asleep earlier in the evening than he used to (7 or 730, rather than after his 8 pm feeding) and I have to wake him to feed at 830 or 9. I usually go to bed at 10:00 and was thinking of dreamfeeding then. I am having a hard time finding a good resource for it. Suggestions?

My situation might be a bit different because DD is being a unicorn this week. But I find it a lot easier to dream feed her when she's in light sleep. I will usually hear her on the monitor shift and move a bunch. So I'll go in and let her eat at that time. But, we put her to bed at around 7:30 or 8 and I won't go in to dream feed until around 11:30 or midnight.
DD sleeps in a crib in her own room for reference. If you co-sleep, I'm sure it's easier. I'm usually up pumping or dealing with blood sugar issues so I'm already out of bed.
Does anyone else have a baby who is constantly stuffed up? My DS always sounds congested, mostly at bedtime through early morning. He has bouts of sneezing all day long, though. He's been this way since birth... at the hospital we were told it's normal in newborns, and then at DS's 1 month appointment with the pedi, we were still told it's normal and not a cause for concern (forgot to bring it up again at the 2mo appt). He is now 3 months and this issue is ongoing... could he maybe have a dairy intolerance? I consume a LOT of dairy (drink milk with most meals, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, ALL the creamer in my coffee, etc). Could that be a factor in his congestion? Or is it just from typical winter in Wisconsin with central heating running in our apartment 24/7? I made note to bring this up again at our next appointment with the pedi, but we're still over 3 weeks out from that. I should note that his congestion/stuffiness doesn't affect his ability to nurse well or his overall temperament. It doesn't seem to bother him, but it perplexes me. I really don't want to have to give up dairy, though!

My DD always wakes up stuffy. Have you tried a humidifier? Im planning on getting one. Ive heard it really helps with this.
Ugh...I think I am going to have to cave and start supplementing while DS is at daycare. I've been back to work for 4 weeks and I just can't keep my supply up. I've tried teas, fenugreek, reglan and oatmeal. I power pumped for 5 days and I'm pumping every 3 hours at work. All this and I barely get 10 oz a day. DS is consistently eating 12. I don't know that i have any other options
