My c/s was scheduled for 9 am 6/17. The resident did an u/s first and said even if macrosomia hadn't been suspected, I'd have ended up with a section anyway due to baby's position. Her head was settled way to the left, probably because she was running out of space.
We went an hour late due to an emergency. During that waiting time, I was warned by the nurse that the anesthesiologist was a real dick. (Great. I was already more scared about that than anything else.)
Finally we go to the OR, and he starts putting the epidural in. Then he freaks about how I am sitting, saying that my one butt cheek was crooked and this isn't going to work. Of course, I am already kinda numb, so getting me to move was damn near impossible, which just made him madder. (He accused me of having scoliosis, which I don't, and was sighing and puffing like a kid having a tantrum. I was so embarrassed.) He tried again, not before saying something about my skin being weird around the sacrum (the resident got right in my face at that point, smiled and said, "everyone's body is different!“). Finally it's in, I'm numb, it's go time and I have no need for this guy.
Surgery itself was uneventful. Like mcp6286, I had the scary shoulder pain. I asked the surgical resident and she said it was fine. Before long, I felt a TON of pressure, and the feet that had been in my ribs for weeks were not there anymore. $ophie started screaming immediately, and LOUD!
They showed us the baby from across the room and we could tell immediately she was huge. 9 lb 11 oz. Everyone in the room said some version of "great call scheduling this" while they were putting me together. The OB said he would send the placenta for testing, which the nurse later told me she thought was overkill, but approaches to big babies vary, I guess.
I felt awful that first day, but was up and walking the next morning, and I get better every day. Much easier than I expected... The worst part really was being in the hospital, but we were discharged on day two. I was initially disappointed to have to go this route, but I am so happy now. There could have been a lot of complications with a vag delivery that probably wouldn't have worked anyway.
