I just spent an hour on the phone with a friend of a friend who is a Doula and I am SO EXCITED I CAN'T EVEN STAND IT. This particular doula is not practicing because she is giving birth at the end of the year but she told me she is going to call around to some doulas who she thinks would match well with me and MH. And we talked about my preferences and how a few pictures not taken on my husband's phone would mean the absolute world to me and she said that's a normal request! I AM SO EXCITE YOU GUYS.
I just found out from the blood work they took at my first apt that I am no longer immune to rubella. Dr. Google says there is nothing you can do about it while pregnant. (So that begs the question as to why they check for the immunity at the first apt). I was immune during my last pregnancy. I checked my old blood work results. I'm not overly concerned as I've never heard f anyone having rubella, but mostly find it odd.
Are you in the U.S.? I'm pretty sure that the World Health Organization deemed rubella completely eliminated from here as of a few months ago. Regardless, it's super rare unless you travel to a place where they don't get the vaccine.
this cannot be, my BIL (admittedly an idiot) got the measles last year.
Married 10/10/10! TTC Baby #1 since April 2014 BFP Oct 16 - EP terminated Nov 6 2014 Off the Bench January 2015! BFP #2 June 1 2015 - EDD Feb 12 2016! Baby Boy born 15th February 2016!

Measles or rubella? They are two different things.

I believe it's part of the standard early pregnancy blood work. They also check for things like STDs. I had to get something (may have been the mmr) when I was pregnant with H. They did it while I was still in the hospital.

Hi everyone. I haven't been around much as exhaustion struck a couple of weeks ago and all I want to do is get through the day so I can sleep! I don't want to fall into full-time lurkdom and am trying to keep up but no promises until this fog lifts. Now off to bed...

He had german measles, from what I understood that is rubella. my sister was pregnant at the time so it was a big issue.
Yes, that's rubella. Who knows. All I know is what the World Health Organization puts out for data and what the news reports.
The CDC agrees that "indigenous" rubella transmission has been eliminated from the US:
"The United States has established and achieved the goal of eliminating indigenous rubella transmission and CRS. Elimination of endemic rubella was documented and verified in the United States in 2004.[5] However, because of international travel and countries without routine rubella vaccination, imported cases of rubella and CRS cases are likely. To maintain elimination, the United States should continue to maintain high vaccination rates among children, ensure that women of childbearing age, particularly women born outside of the United States, are vaccinated, and maintain good surveillance for both rubella and CRS."
So basically you have to travel somewhere to go get it, generally speaking. kellybenelly83 - did he get it from traveling? I'm super curious now!

no not at all, we have no idea how he contracted it. He was delivering food at the time, you never know who just returned from a trip though and had contracted it/sneezed on money....its not like he is the most precautious person, he would have no issue taking money all night and not washing his hands ever.

There's nothing you can do during pregnancy but they will recommend you be vaccinated after delivery, usually while still in the hospital.
Six weeks unpaid maternity leave is seriously ridiculous. Wtf is that even good for?
Also, we finally heard back from the guy working on our leaky a/c unit. It's going to cost $300 to fix, because the unit is so old that they can't get the one replacement part needed, they need to get a whole set of things, which then also requires other work. Yay home ownership.

Mine is unpaid as well but we are giving the option to pay into short term disability which can be used for maturity leave. My dumbass self forgot to sign up for it last year even thought it wouldn't have covered last pregnancy so I'm sol again this time.

My state doesn't allow that. We can use the state's version of FMLA (six weeks unpaid), or whatever our company offers above that. I'll have to use up all my banked PTO in order to still get paid (mostly) during that time. Boo.

That stinks Horray for PTO at least! I'm just starting a new job next week, so I'm pretty sure I won't qualify for a single thing. womp womp. I'm a teacher, so I don't even really get PTO I can save up for the next couple of months.
I had a get together today with some of the ladies from my old Bmb. One I'd lmet before and 2 I hadn't. After 2 1/2 years it was nice to finally meet more. So much fun!
I bought VIP tickets to an amazing food festival months before I got pregnant. Went tonight. Ate soooooo much good food. However, what made VIP tickets extra pricey was that they included unlimited booze. Womp womp. None for me. Oh well. The food was worth it
My baby slept all night for the first time in 2 weeks. He likes to tees me by sleeping all night for a couple of days then bam up one -two times a night for a week or two.
I pretty much hate every name I can think of right now. I have no idea how DH and I are going to come up with two agreeable names for these babies. I know it's early, but I don't even have a front runner for either sex. Last pregnancy, we came to our final decision in the hospital after my water broke, but it was narrowed down to two very early. And they had been names we were think about for years. Now, my "short" list of names is a mile long and I'm not in love with any of them.
Same here. I have a few I like but don't love. DH doesn't seem on board with them anyway and has come up with no suggestions of his own. Plus we are both Geminis, so coming to a decision together is like pulling teeth. It's going to be a loooong process.

We're not even bothering getting into it until we know the sex I don't think. I mean, we have a "list", but it's filled with names that we both don't really like, so it needs a lot of work. We're kind of in trouble if it's another boy though, we're plumb out of good ideas for that one ;-)

Come over to the names board and give us an idea of your style! List some names you like, and your kids' names if you're comfortable with it, and we'll give you a ton of suggestions. Be aware though, we will be blunt and honest. The only thing off limits for flames are already born children's names.

same for me. we got our BFP a week after I signed the offer letter. It was still totally the right move for my career, but I went from a situation where I would have had 12 weeks paid to getting absolutely nothing b/c their short term disability doesn't kick in until you've been there a year. I actually was reading the FMLA policy earlier this week and it says it doesn't kick in until a year either, but I asked the question when I was considering the offer (buried among a bunch of other questions so it hopefully wasn't conspicuous) and the HR guy told me prior to hitting the one year mark you'd still get unpaid leave, so I'm hoping that's at least true. Luckily with my vacation payout from switching jobs we can afford for me to be unpaid a bit longer.
12345 - we are also stuck on names. We were all set with one boy name and one girl name and then we found out we were having twins AND H started to question our boy name, so we've got one kid named if it's a girl at least

I've been contemplating asking for girl name help on the name board, but I'm still working up the nerve
kate61487 I'm not sure if I knew you were having twins or not. We are as well!! I'm not really into matchy matchy twin names, but I also want them to sound nice together. It makes it more difficult. I can't wait to find out the sex of these babies!
Me either. I want them to sort of make sense together, but I've never been a fan of rhyming or matchy sibling names, I feel like that's even more important with twins, since they'll be grouped soo often anyway.
I slept horrible last night I tossed and turned from 11-4, got up to pee and then was up until 5:00ish, woke up at 6:00 to take zofran and then DH woke me up at 6:50 right before my alarm went off at 7:00 I felt like crap when I got up.
Argh I'm coming down with a cold. Right before we leave on vacation. I hate summer colds And working the overnight while feeling extra crappy is just making me want to cry.
