I'll start a random thread for anyone who has a random. Seriously though, someone else please feel free to start a thread as I am looking like a PW on this board lately.
My random: Any experiences with Rit dye (or any other fabric dye)? I have a piece of lower quality pink faux fur that was free but that I really have no use for. I do however need some black faux fur for LO's Halloween costume. Any thoughts as to if that will take to dye? If so, any tips/warnings/etc regarding dying fabric in general? TIA!

Hmmmm. It should! Give it a shot? It might need two dyes.
My best friend is home from SC for the week so she came over and we crafted! She taught me how to make one of those burlap wreaths. Tee hee. I'll post a picture in wip.

I figured I wouldn't be out a whole lot to try it. I have never used dye though, so I think I worry more about dying something that shouldn't be dyed in the process (i.e. the floor, the kid, etc) or having the dyed fabric stain something after the fact than about ruining the fabric. Lol.
How fun to craft with a visiting friend. I don't have any close friends who do much crafting of any type.

I had great craft goals while I was on summer break however instead of doing them, I'm hanging with the baby. I didn't realize how much I would feel pulled to constantly entertain her. I really thought I could work on felt projects while she played. I was so wrong.
Studying is cutting into my crafting time...I'm thinking about starting a knit blanket on Saturday during a car trip so I don't have to lug my prayer shawl. 2 WIPs while studying is going to be rough though.

My new printer should get here today- going to try to run some cotton through it (backed with cardstock or freezer paper) tonight.
cam, unfortunately, you can't take polyester (and the majority of faux fur is poly) from pink to black with plain old RIT (or a washing machine method)- you may end up with a pale blue or purple or gray, if anything. Polyester requires a LOT of heat- boiling temperatures are required with the lower temp dyes- and something called disperse dyes. iDye Poly (not the regular iDye) or RITs new DyeMore (I would recommend Jacquard's brand [iDye] over Rit's). You'll have to boil it on the stovetop for almost an hour. And you still might find black hard to achieve. And that's if the boiling temps don't ruin the fabric!
There are other ways to change that color that coat the fur- chalk/powder (would not red for a child) and sprays (would again, no red for a child).
It's probably worth your time to just get some black fake fur.

Very good to know. The one fur I saw at the store was $17.99/yd. I am going to check around, but otherwise at least a coupon will cut it down a bit. That still isn't a bad price for a costume (the other supplies don't add up to much) as long as I don't mess it up and have to remake it. The fur itself should help camouflage minor imperfections at least which makes me a bit more confident working with the new-to-me fabric and new-to-me article of clothing.
DH's grandma gave me a whole bunch of knitting needles and books so excited to start learning that. I also need to start thinking about the littles Halloween costumes.

Bumping the randoms!
I went MIA these past months because my pregnancy was ridiculously hard on me. I am finally back with an itching to craft and a cute little baby to boot!
FI accidentally broke my sewing machine so i've been stuck to crocheting. I haven't really been inspired though. I'm thinking about dipping my toes into bath and beauty products.

Congrats on baby's arrival!
Sorry to hear about the broken machine. Is it fixable? Hope you find a good crafting outlet soon, whether it be inspiration for crocheting, the ability to sew again, or something new.

Thank you!!
Nope, it's not. The sewing arm doesn't move anymore so I've gotta get a new one. I can't really afford a brand spanking new machine so it will be off to the pawn shop!
And thank you! I'm trying to find my niche, but I just don't feel like I'm good at anything!

Hope you find a good deal on a great machine. Estate sales sometimes have good ones too as sewing machines were practically a staple in many homes in the past.
I often feel like a jack of all trades, master of none.
