I was going to suggest the same one as graybaby. I've done too much research on convertible car seats. I'm having a really hard time settling on one and LO is currently 29 1/2 in so I'm out of time. Ugh.
ETA the diono has super extended rear facing (up to 4 years depending on weight and height, of course), so if it fits well you can rear face for quite a while.
I am 5'9 and DH is 6'5. My car is a Mazda 6 I have Graco my ride 65 for Emmett and the Graco nautilus 3 in 1 for Francesca The driver seat is all the way back so the forward facing seat is there. And i have decent leg room with the rear facing
Edit: we have the Graco 4 in 1 in our other car and Francesca in a britax
At the time we switched DS, I drove a Chevy Cavalier (pretty much the shittiest car ever made, on a side note) and it was a 2 door. I got the Britax Roundabout and it fit in our car just fine. We were able to scoot the seat back far enough for DH (6'4") to drive!
**TRIGGER WARNING**
If your H is questioning the safety of RFing over FFing, tell him to do some research, especially on internal decapitation. I think there is even a youtube video that someone made because it happened to her son. DH just didn't understand why I was so adamant about keeping DS RFing until I showed him some research.
Convertible car seats are confusing. Thinking about buying one tomorrow too. Do they need a base? @khern do you like the maxi cosi pria?
I agree they are confusing, but no, they don't need a base since they just stay in the car all the time. Of course the stinky part of that is that you either need a car seat for each car or you have to move it every time you change vehicles.

No base. Basically they stay in your car permanently because they are really heavy. They are really pricey but it seems like they will be used for at least 5 years.
We have a maxi cosi pria, it is a hand me down, so we didn't do much research about it, but we have a vw gti and it fits fine, much better than the maxi cosi mico that we had before.
My DH is also questioning RFing, he wants Nico to face forward already, so we argue over this all the time. I'm going to send him some research and see what he has to say about that.
Why does your husband care if he's forward or rear facing? Besides, FFing is illegal at this age.
Seriously, internal decapitation. Yikes.
Thankfully my DH is onboard with our two year old still RFing. He's even defended our decision to his mother. With that said, I do not judge other's decisions regarding when they turn their children FFing as long as they follow the law and the car seat requirements.
Also, we just bought the Pria 70. We're using it for our 2 year old and like it so far. The lower sides make it easier for me to get him in and out of our van.
Blah I fell into the rabbit hole of reading Amazon reviews on carseats again...
How is installation on the diono radian and maxi cosi pria? Some of the Amazon reviewers who said installation was hard also said something other things that make me doubt their intelligence so I'm not sure.

We have the Graco 4ever all in one. It fits comfortably in my Toyota 4Runner as well as my Chevy Silverado, though the Chevy was a bit of a squeeze. I dunno if that helps but we really like it.
The diono rainier is the newer version of the radian and we just tried it out in H's sedan (without a full install) and it looks like it'll fit great behind the passenger seat where the infant seat is currently. Make sure you buy the angle adjuster though! It makes so much more room. I've heard it is a little difficult to install but nothing is going to be as easy as the infant seat base I guess. We'll probably install it in my Pilot this weekend and we'll get another for H.
If anyone has the BRU coupon and credit card I think you can use it on the carseat in store.

That's the car seat I've been eyeballing. Is it easy to install? How about adjusting the recline?
I just bought the Maxi cosi pria 85. I was about to get the 70 but the 85 just has a higher weight limit and the cover comes off easily to clean. I have a Nissan Rogue and it fits fine behind the passenger seat. I was all set to get the highly recommended britax but once I saw the maxi cosis in the store I changed my mind. I love the fabric that seems like he wouldn't end up drenched in sweat and it seems very cozy.
dh said it was a giant pain in the butt to install but it seems like the manual isn't helpful. Once he watched the YouTube video he got it in quickly but I did need to help a little.
Dh will be purchasing the graco 4 ever car seat this weekend. He saw the commercial and the was ll he needed to know. It does look pretty cool.
I see more for later in the day. I am hesitant on the Diono b/c of the negative installation reviews (I am looking for dummy proof). It would have to be like 50% off for me to jump b/c it's at the bottom of my list and the others I am looking at are cheaper to begin with.

Which other ones are you looking at?
Maxi cosi is probably my top for our small sedan. For the suv I like britax marathon or chicco nextfit, so I guess those aren't much cheaper but with 20% at BBB...

Did you see you get an extra 25 percent off in cart?
Amazon was wonky and I missed the diono deal again, fuuuuuck
Boo!!!
BBB is price matching some of the carseats that are 25% off on Amazon. They have an instant 20% off. I am trying to find a coupon code for an extra 20% off. Bed BB also has the carseats on sale but with free shipping. I almost had it worked out to order from there but my online bedbb coupon had a maxi cosi exclusion. I am thinking about going to the bbbaby store to see if they will price match their website + coupon. I feel like a crazy carseat lady today.
ETA Looks like diapers.com and albee baby also have price matches on some models.
I got a Diono Ranier on Amazon today after wasting a bunch of time on it... Was on the waiting list for a while beforehand. I sort of feel like it was a rash decision because I hadn't done all my research, but I guess we can return it if we don't like it. I got caught up in the Prime Deals excitement!

I've done all the research for you. You made a good decision. Wish I was able to get one! We need a 2nd for H!

Since you've done all the research, could you make a decision for me and my ford fusion?

Super easy to install though you have to adjust the recline before you install it all the way. But seriously easy to do.

It's rated highly but I was so worried it wouldn't fit in H's car but we temporarily put it in and it actually took up less space than the baby seat when using the angle adjuster. He has a BMW 5 series, so about the size of an accord. Mom has a corolla and I got her the Graco 65 grow with me or some other name. But she hasn't tried it in her car yet.

DH is about to order the purple radian that he got for DS. I think he's a little torn between a good deal and his son in a purple seat. It's kinda funny to me.
Just gotta own it the one I got is grey, probably not the exact color I would have picked but decent!

Yay! This is why D14 is awesome. I wouldn't have gone for it at all if I hadn't seen it mentioned here! Thanks for the vote of confidence!
