I don't understand the concept of hunting for sport. But it's also not hunting to use bait to lure the lion out of his habitat, and then let him wander around injured for two days before beheading and skinning him. That's cruel.

I guess I would argue that nearly all hunting in this country is for sport. Yes, you may utilize the animal, but did you really NEED to shoot it? Your life would have gone on just fine if you didn't. You do it because it's fun and you get a thrill from it. That's sport to me.
I won't argue that killing Cecil was right by any means but I think the majority of the fault lies on the guides and I think it's something that absolutely does not deserve the attention it's getting in the media. Let's move on. We live in a country that has had at least one mass shooting every day so far this year and we're up in arms about a dead lion.

I would disagree on the hunting is nearly always for sport. DH has been interested in hunting solely for the amount of money it would save us on feeding our family. Even the majority of my family/friends who do hunt do so for the meat, but maybe that's just a regional thing?
I'm more bothered by the fact that people are completely disregarding the lives of people being lost in the world and are instead so focused on the lion. A good friend of mine posted on Facebook that if Americans cared about what's going on in the Middle East as much as we care about a lion, maybe things would be very different.

In a weird way, I agree. Animals are tortured and killed by the thousands every day in factory farms and animal testing labs and no one cares. People happily look the other way and eat their burgers.
Why is this lion's life so much more important than all of the innocent rabbits, cows, pigs etc that are brutally murdered each day?
Trophy hunting is a huge industry in Africa and is perfectly legal. I feel bad that this one man is being made a scapegoat for the unethical actions of thousands.
So I guess my UO is that I believe that all life is beautiful and sacred. Pigs, for example, are one of the smartest, most emotionally sensitive animals on the planet, and it breaks my heart that most are born to live short, sad lives with violent, painful ends. I believe that all animals, from dogs to pigs to humans, deserve a chance at a happy life.
And now I'll get off my vegan soapbox for the rest of our pregnancies, the Cecil thing just riled me up.

I feel guilty about what I do for a living every day.
Which is why I have been applying for new jobs since about 2 weeks after I started. Haha.

It sounds like you're creating something from scraps that will improve the health of other animals/people though so I hope that helps some. FX that you can find a new, less emotionally stressful job soon though!

I just can't with the Cecil thing. It was beyond cruel. He was protected and they lured him out of the protection solely so that they could hunt him legally. This would be like you luring your neighbors dog out of their fenced in yard so you could slowly hunt it and kill it.
It was nothing at all similar to hunting deer or small game, which are done with respect and within the parameters of the law. What that dentist did is disgusting and the fact that he thought he was in the right is horrifying.

I'm hesitant to even weigh in on this. But, I'll bite. From reading the news articles about Cecil it sounds like the dentist was under the impression his actions were legal. People hunt for sport. I don't think that's going to change. My DH enjoys hunting, locally we have severe overpopulation of deer and when he does hunt something we process it and eat it, so it's not just dying for sport. I agree with what's been said about the deplorable conditions most food is raised in in the US, which is why we try to eat pasture/responsibly raised meat and even raise our own. I respect people that choose not to eat meat for ethical reasons. To each his/her own. I feel that if I am going to eat meat, I want to know it had a good life and it's going to feed my family the healthiest possible meat. I will continue to eat meat, but I'm doing my best to not support factory farms.
Wow, this post is grimm.
This UO thread got serious, fast. I much prefer snack food debates...

I think baby wearing is overrated. I do it when I have to, but I would 110% rather push dd in her stroller. I get hot and tired wearing her and my back starts to hurt. Plus bonus, I can throw all our stuff in the basket so I don't have to carry anything!

I'm leaning toward this as well. I'm going to try baby wearing but I have a feeling I'll only be able to do it in short spurts.

For me it's all about the wrap/carrier. I found a good multi-layer carry for DS and I can literally wear him for hours and it's totally comfortable. But a single layer carry or the Ergo and I'm maxed out at like 20 min. That's why I like wraps, the versatility. I have picky shoulders so I kept trying different carries until I found the one that was comfortable for us.
This pic is after hiking for two hours, both of us very comfy.
Not that there's anything wrong with strollers, they're just a bit more of a pain to push around a lot of areas around me.
I don't understand the newborn photo shoots with the baby wrapped in the weird cocoon thing that everyone buys off of Etsy.
Yes. I hate that thing!
I also dislike the newborn photos of the baby girl in the wedding dress that everyone seems to love. Like, welcome to the world. Your worth is as a bride. Good luck.

So you use two wraps at once? Doesn't that get really hot?

Babywearing has saved us many a napless afternoon. But now that DD is older if we are going somewhere like the park, etc the stroller is way easier.

For me it is much more useful around the house. My husband and I are rarely home at the same time and I can do yard work, do laundry, cook dinner, etc. with both hands and a happy baby. Now that she is older I don't need to as much since she can entertain herself for longer periods of time. I could also nurse her hands free which was like the most amazing thing ever.
If I didn't babywear my lawn would never get mowed (FFTC? I know babywearing while mowing is a controversial topic).
90% of the time I leave the house I go to the grocery store or Target where I just put her in the cart.

Sorry no - didn't explain that very well! It's one wrap but it's wrapped around my chest once and DH's back twice so that the weight of the kid is distributed evenly across my back, shoulders, and front. So there is very little weight concentrated anywhere. This is a double hammock carry. This wrap is pretty light so it doesn't get too hot but, yeah, if it's like 90 out... definitely not doing any kind of carrying!

I don't think hunting for sport is ok. Hunting for sustenance, this makes sense to me.
I have no idea who Cecil the lion is. But he sounds very English? Not motivated enough to Google.
As soon as my pregnancy comes out on FB, I will have to deal with my UO. I think 5 kids is the perfect number of children for our very specific situation. It annoys me that everyone is judged for how many they have. From those who choose to be childless, to those who choose to be OAD, choose not to go for the boy/girl, whatnot. Yes, I am perfectly capable of "keeping in my pants" TYVM. In 10 years, I'll have a nice, normal 4 person household. Hopefully, my big kids will visit often. More importantly, I will regret nothing.
I got lectured yesterday when DS1 accidentally spilled the beans to someone, can you tell? I'm still pissed that I just sat there like a stammering idiot. But, but, but... ugh!
ETA: Stroller > Babywearing, but I still use my sling sometimes.
