I have dropped down to 4ppd for my 5 month old who I have been EP-ing for since she was one week old.
I'm making the same amount of milk as when I was pumping 5-6 PPD (about 22-23 oz), but my LO is now eating almost 30 oz per day which is a lot more than she ate months 0-4. I've been having to dip into my freezer stash regularly.
I decided to go back to 5 PPD this week and didn't make more milk! What is going on? What should I do to keep up with my LO?
Since your supply has regulated by now, you would prob have to go up to like 8ppd, or every 2 hrs for a while to see a boost. It's not impossible but it will likely require some work. And supplements and extra water wouldn't hurt either.
ajacot924 i went through this, too. P was eating 24-28 ounces a day and then shot up to 35-40. Fenugreek and blessed thistle *together* really helped me. I would take 4 pills of each 3 times a day, that raised supply 2/3oz. Then when i stopped, for whatever reason it actually raised my supply again. So i repeated that process once more. I think it took about 2 weeks to get back on track once i figured out what helped me. Exhaust every option, and remember you need to try something consistently for atleast a few days, some things work faster or slower than others.
It's going to take more than a week to get more milk. Also when are you doing your 5th pumping session? Early AM isn't fun but that's when you'll really be able to get more milk, when prolactin is the highest.
ETA after your production is up you can play with the timing again to be more convenient.
Thanks everyone! I added 5 minutes to each of my pumps and started a lactation supplement. That gave me an extra 2-3 ounces per day, so I am glad for that.
