Lately I'm mor concerned with buying pasture grazing eggs ($8 a dozen but we rarely eat) and free range chicken and grass fed meat. It's expensive but IMO we really should be eating a minimum of animal products for health reasons therefore it's no big deal to spend the money. Shit, I pay plenty for my damn cable bill....

$8/dozen may be out of my price point. My kids really like eggs.
I remember an email going around way back in the day but Snopes smacked it down. It is possible your vet is on my mom's email chain distribution list. If the vet talks about people with perfume samples in parking lots, then he/she definitely is on my mom's chain.
dc2london, I have made some changes in the past 5 years as well. Composting is a big thing for me and making my own products. Besides the all purpose cleaner, I also make my own lotions and deodorant. I make an effort to bring a reusable water bottle with me and try to never buy bottled water.
I composted around 200 lbs of organic food waste in 2014.
I know I'm only one person, but I still think that I'm making a difference.
That's fantastic!!! Go you!
I have made my own deodorant before and I liked it but it can't stand up to my workouts :/ I'm very interested in your lotions though
We're not made of money so heck no to paying $8 for a dozen eggs for $15 for a pound of grass fed beef. We eat WAAAAAY too much meat for that to even be possible. Occasionally I spend $3.50 to buy a dozen eggs from the feed store where we buy our dog food, but that's just to support the business.
The only crunchy thing DH and I did was cloth diaper and I made all of DH baby food for her. That was actually fun and a good easy way to save $$. We compost but mainly for my small garden needs. Oh, and we turn off lights in unoccupied rooms, and try to conserve water
I will try to do the dirty dozen with organic produce, preferably local/seasonal (Farmers Market). I will cut cost elsewhere to buy meat without antibiotics/hormones. It really depends when it comes to boxed food. I mean, a pop tart isn't any healthier because it used organic strawberries (allergies/intolerances are different).
But I have the availability to buy this way. So much of the country doesn't have that option.
I almost said poptarts! I should have known fruit snacks would cause an uproar.

I'm not sure why you quoted this because I just answered her question. But corn syrup is sugar. It's not sucrose, but it's sugar.
Because your body metablises HFCS completely differently than sucrose. That's why people would rather buy products with sugar instead of HFCS even if the amount of "sugars" are the same.
I do know this, I wasn't sure if HFCS was specifically labeled. In the Welch's ingredient list, it read "corn syrup" and leroybrown mentioned sugar being better than HFCS. Wasn't sure if they were exactly the same thing.
We live in between farms so we try to buy as much as we can from there. We get all of our summer fruits, beef, chicken and eggs. We know where the animal is coming from and what it's being fed. No antibiotics.

Also FYI Trader Joes doesn't really have any more organic stuff than the grocery store. Less processed, maybe. But if you are looking for organic, don't waste your time.
The difference is that a Trader Joe's product probably has fewer scary sounding ingredients than another store's band name or store brand equivalent. But actual organic stuff, no. Most stuff in Trader Joe's is not organic. But the stuff that is, other than produce, is usually cheaper than in other stores.
Oh, that is fantastic. This, this is wine. Look at what these idiots are drinking. Look at these dicks! I mean obviously, it's not really delicious, like hot chocolate or Coke, but for wine...brilliant.

Bottled water makes me stabby. I especially hate when people take two sips and then just leave it to toss.
If I'm amongst friends, I will drink the rest of the water out of the bottles.
I do this on family vacations. My parents will buy bottled water and then everyone forgets who put their bottle where. I drink tap and will either finish off bottles or refill my dog's bowl.

I just have to point something out about the use of abx in animals...
If an animal is treated with one certain abx over time, the bacteria living in those animals may become resistant to that drug. So if you were to eat the undercooked meat of this animal, you could become sick and then not respond to a particular abx treatment. SO, eat properly cooked meat and the risk is very low of becoming ill.
OBV, I would love to eat drug free meat, but it's not always economically possible. I hate that it's toted as 'dangerous' to eat anything other than grass fed meat in America. We aren't a third world country.

This is false
Source? This is what I have always known to be true.
The reason they use feed with antibiotics is because they don't have to get an rx and it reduces the infection in the live animals, not the dead animals. Tests show that just as much food borne bacteria exists in non-treated as treated meat.
