TL;DR: My May baby became a big brother this morning when finally at 40w6d baby 2.0 decided it was time! My team green status turned blue again as Jerry Andrew arrived at 4:16a this morning. He checked in at exactly the same weight and exactly the same length as big bro, 7lbs 4oz and 20.5in.
If ya want the full story: Labor was a work in progress for many days leading up to the birth. Pre labor as a STM is no joke! After three straight nights of CX that never regulated and stalled out by the mornings, I went in for an appointment with the doctor yesterday morning to talk induction. I was exhausted and ready to get some help. Found out I was 5cm so that was surprising and encouraging! So, we decided to wait for the CX to start that evening and then go to the hospital for pitocin to keep them progressing.
Spent yesterday trying to relax while having very strong, but very sporadic CX. Sometimes 30mins apart, then 10mins, it was all over the place. Decided to head in at 9:30p after things fell into somewhat of a rhythm (all under 10min apart for an hour, that's the best I got!). I truly did not believe I was in active labor, but figured it was a good enough start.
When I was checked at the hospital... Surprise, I was 8cm! Holy crap! It was happening on its own! Got into an awesome groove with the doula's help. Lots of massage, shower time and good old animalistic screaming! By 11:30 though we found my water was preventing me from getting the last 1/2cm I needed. Doctor decided to break and said he thought it would be just a couple CX until I was complete and ready to push. Yeah... Nope. CX kept coming and oh boy were they more intense without my water! I made it through 5 before losing my groove completely and begging for the epi.
As expected the epi #1 was amazing and #2 stopped all progress. It took about 4hrs to get that last little bit. I was ready to push at 4am and preparing myself for the long haul - aka a repeat of the 4hrs of pushing I did with DS1. To my relief though it just was three rounds of pushing through three contractions....about 15mins! And the best part was DS2 was just as kind to me as DS1 and I made it through without a tear. Thank you sweet baby!
All in all it was so, so different than the first go around. It's amazing how unique each child is. Hopefully we will get to head home tomorrow and do the sibling introductions!
And your reward for indulging me by reading....
