Everyone must be crazy busy today....(when aren't we?)
Please talk me off a the ledge, I had an awful stressful day at work. Picked up lo an hour later than I had planned and he is currently sleeping on me already which is 30 minutes earlier than normal so I got to see him for a whole whopping hour while he was awake today. I find myself daydreaming about taking a demotion and maybe cutting back to 30 hours a week. We could handle it financially but it would be career suicide...but my mommy heart is telling me it might be worth the sacrifice because I am missing so much with him right now. I do not want to look back and regret missing so much of his day during the week.
I hope you ladies are having a better day than I am
I also have a sleeping baby on me and I got home 22 minutes ago. Sigh. I don't know how you've done your schedule, spikesmom. Getting up at 1 to work, that's definitely dedication. I'll admit that what you are considering makes sense to me. Are you saying it's career suicide because you would not be considered for a promotion at a later date? Are there other places you could advance later?

Zengal I maybe exaggerating when I say suicide...it would be at my current employer but I could advance in other employment I'm sure. The thing is that the position I'm in is exactly where I want to be except the crazy schedule. I also would be working alongside my current staff which would be a little awkward (but doable) . I am so torn but I can't keep thus pace up, I barely see lo and rarely get time with my H. I am so unhappy which is ironic because this is what I've been working towards for 9 years :-(
I feel like I should be able to hack it but I'm drowning.

spikesmom- that is tough. I would weigh out the pros and cons. What would it be like at your current employer if you took the demotion? Would it be difficult to continue working with them? 9 years is a long time to work your way up the ladder. Would you be able to get back to a position of this caliber with another company? Financially would you have to change some things to make it work? I could see why you would want the change. It is so hard to be away from your LO. Your schedule is very hectic. Have you thought about looking and seeing what else is out there that could be the same but with a better schedule? Hugs lady, you are doing your best and whatever works for you and your family is the best decision. If you are unhappy, how important is the title? I had the same issue before. When I was a sales manager, I was so excited for the promotion but my quality of life was horrible. I was attached to my phone email and never off the clock. After 6 years, I was burnt out. Having the schedule I do now, even with a slight pay cut is worth everything. Life is short and happiness is key. You deserve to have a life outside of work.

Spikesmom I'm in awe of how well you do your schedule. I know I couldn't do it. There are days I have fantasies about staying home with DD and then a break hits and I'm reminded that full time stay at home is not for me. Good luck with your schedule and figuring out a long term plan for your family.

Oh spikesmom.. I feel so sad reading your post. It sounds like a very tough situation. Talk to your husband. Come to a conclusion with him with what works best for you and your family. Keep us updated
Thank you ladies for the support, I really needed to get this off my chest. My husband is completely on board with me stepping down but I think I am going to look for another position with less travel first and if I don't find something then step down! You ladies are amazing
