How much can your j12 kid write?
I feel that Aubrey needs to really start practicing writing. I want to start practicing more letters with Aubrey and get her to be able to write her name and uppercase/lowercase letters by the end of the school year.
My next question is do you do anything to help them write? I probably am worrying too much but I feel like Shane was writing more letters at this age and Aubrey doesn't write any.
Mine doesn't really write. They do practice tracing letters at daycare but I think it's more the teacher holding their hand and showing them than them doing it on their own.
Henry will attempt to write letters by copying what I write down. So basically I will show him how to do one and he will try to copy it. They aren't very good but he's trying.
My niece (who is also a J12er) is excellent. Like her letters look fucking better than mine. But I attribute a lot of that to the art gene (if there is a such thing) in her family. My BIL is an AMAZING artist and so is his Dad and we can already see it with her. Her drawings, penmanship, everything. She is just so into art that I am not surprised that this would come naturally to her as well. Again, we show her at letter and she can copy it.

We are the same. I will make some letters using dashes and let her trace them. I know at school they practice writing the letters (not actually tracing), but the teachers help her at this point by holding her hand. I did get her an app for my phone that is for tracing letters as well, but we honestly don't give her the phone/ipad much.

M only recently started writing when he started preschool. They have them trace letters and started tracing their names a few weeks ago. His looked to be about in the middle of all the kids. Not the best, but not just scribble on the paper.
He has been tracing letters on the tablet for awhile now, but I know it is different using your finger than with a pencil or crayon, but I guess it probably helps in some way.
WC: I've never written down letters and had him trace at home, so I honestly don't know how well he does or how much help he needs.

Riley has also just begun tracing letters at daycare, but we haven't practiced it at home yet. She is still working on identifying all of her letters too.

Cosette can write about 1/2 of her letters on her own when I ask her too (if she's in the mood to). She knows all her letters. She won't do numbers at all when asked. We have a wipe off tracing letter book that we get out too that she loves to play with. Sometimes I'll ask her what she wants to draw pictures of today and I'll draw it and write the word below. I'll ask her to trace over my letters. She then is starting to recognize/"read" those words to a degree and wants to write those words again sometimes. Believe me when I say - it's only if she's in the mood. Generally I get in about 20 minutes of "teaching time" a night or day and call it good whether it is an art project/ or focused writing skills (maybe 2 sessions on weekends).

Same as most above, not really writing and just started prek last month so maybe I'll start seeing some but I haven't really sat and made her do letters. Perhaps I should...

Sadie traces at school a lot and they work on a letter of the week at school. My mom just got a dry erase book of tracing (letters, numbers, shapes, etc) that she likes a lot. Actual writing though not much. She's ok at S and she likes the lowercase i a lot for some reason but those are the only ones she really writes.
Joey loves to trace letters. When we were at the hospital all the time they had one of those magnetic boards in the family room - and I would draw one with the thin pen stylus, and she would trace them with the large magnet.
They do lots of tracing the "letter of the week" at daycare, and she's learned a few from that. If I ask her to she'll write a J, Q, T, O, M, and L... I think that's it... maybe a B too. But even those she messes up sometimes.
She recognizes numbers a little more than letters right now, but is getting better at some letters like those above.
Henry has started having handwriting papers at school where they trace the dots for their name. He very rarely even does one letter. Mostly its just scribbles everywhere else on the paper. The teacher does do the first couple of lines for them so they know how to.
Not much. I honestly haven't done much practice with her. She's not great at holding a pencil correctly and drawing or writing letters. They are doing lots of practice at her daycare. They have her tracing letters etc. They asked me recently to practice more at home with her because she should be better at holding a pencil correctly. I'm not really sure where a three-year old should be at though.

Ok because we're already talking about this, I have to AW. And I have to eat my words... We got this from parent teacher conferences today. They have a sign in every day and the kids trace their name. Well today they had them write their name. I feel like an asshole because I had no idea Sadie could do this.

I feel like Cosette isn't getting too much out of her school though, like we have to do a lot at home because she seems interested and ready for it. They didn't do anything curriculum wise over the entire summer and that kind of pisses me off for what we pay for a center. I'm glad they are finally getting more in again now with school in session, because I can tell the difference. So H and I made a decision to work on stuff with her on our own the past few months FWIW. And hey she still can't color in the lines.
