I strongly dislike yoonique spellings of names, like Emmaleigh for Emily and Lyndsi for Lindsay/Lindsey.

I know sometimes there are just variations of names - like Alison/Allison or Deborah/Debra or Stephen/Steven. The names that bother me are the ones where you can tell the parents were trying to be kre8tiv.

I wish facebook could have a marketing/business section and separate it from the original feed. If you have a business account selling whatever, I probably don't want to see it.

I want to know what's up in my friends' lives, not be bombarded or accosted with friends trying to sell me beachbody, or stella and dot, jamberry, makeup, weird wraps, knives etc. I want to support your endeavours, and I know social marketing is SMART and can work - but .... I care more about how YOU are doing, not how your business is doing.

I dislike strongly gendered stuff for babies. I don't mind a little pink and blue here and there, but I don't like when baby girls wear pink ALL TIME TIME, or when little boys are always wearing sports-themed stuff.

I also hate sexualized baby/kids clothes or clothes that talk about relationships. Like the boys stuff that says "future heartbreaker" and the girls stuff that says "waiting for my prince" and garbage like that.

Aside from a few quirky or fun things, I am not a fan of text or logos on clothing at all.

I hate returning things.
Unless something is seriously broken and expensive, I won't return things.

If people give me stuff and I don't particularly like it, I'll donate or give away before returning for money.

DS has one! We went to pick out candy last night and he really really really wanted the candy corn/wax pumpkin bag. I tried to tell him no one likes that kind, but he insisted it was his favorite.

We settled on blow pops because thankfully the candy corn wasn't individually wrapped so we can't hand it out anyway. I also bought PB cups and snickers.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I read someone saying that candy corn is Satan's hardened ear wax and it made me legit LOL. Now that's all I can think of when I see candy corn.

littleducky, yes yes yes to the sexualized kids clothing. (I also hate younique spellings of names). I have seen newborn sized onesies that say "Future Trophy Wife". Are you fucking kidding me? No way I would ever, EVER put my daughter in something like that. I would hope she would have more confidence, self-esteem, and ambition that just becoming a trophy wife. So disgusting.

Popular. As for me, I used to agree but now I'm sick of the backlash against unique names. I ask think distain for unique names is often a socially-acceptable expression of classism and racism. Think about it--these names are frequently associated with poor, uneducated white people (especially unique spellings of common or trendy names) and with black people (especially unique names).

I just can't get on board with the hate anymore. Names are so personal. The kids with these names may have to deal with all kinds of shit over it and I don't want to be a part of it.

I am obsessed with all candy but have to agree about candy corn. I'll eat it, but I always feel sick afterwards.

I agree about multi-level marketing and Facebook. It's starting to drive me crazy, and I know a lot of people do it, and make a good amount of money doing it while staying at home (good for them, I'm jealous they can make some extra income!) However, it does bother me when I get nervous a genuine friend is trying to sell something to me. I mentioned my loss and trouble getting pregnant this year to a friend, and her response was talking about how Plexus really did help someone she knew get pregnant. What?!?! Just annoying. She's not like that at ALL, but I think it's just taken over her life! I'm sick of getting automatically added to Facebook groups for "Younique Mascara" parties that I didn't ask to join (I guess I need to change my FB settings...)

Even though I also hate weird spellings of names, I agree with this completely.  My annoyance comes from the fact that my name is spelled a billion different ways and it's annoying to spell it every single time I need to handle something (bills, medical question, whatever it may be). It's a personal issue.

I agree completely and think you bring up an extremely valid point here.  Someone I know said, "A name belongs on a high school diploma, not just a facebook status." And some people automatically assume that because your child is given a unique spelling or name, you are "trashy" or "ghetto" and that sucks for the kids.  It really does.  Especially because the name follows you everywhere.  It's what recruiters see before they even see your accomplishments. And it's even more unfortunate that some will skim right by instead of giving a chance because of the name that's on the resume.

And I think I struggle because I still get annoyed at people I know that do it pretentiously or just to be cute, but I know it's a bigger issue than that.  It's why the La-A narrative just won't fucking die already.  Sorry, you don't know La-A, your mom doesn't know her, and your cousin's boyfriend's sister doesn't fucking know her. BYE.

I 150% agree that kids clothes shouldn't be sexual or sexist and that most logos and words are a complete miss on babies clothes. WTF to the trophy wife thing!?

My UO is related to kids clothes too. I know I'll end up being like this too, but it bugs when parents dictate clothing to the Nth degree.

DH has a sibling who refuses to let his daughter wear pink. We were banned from buying anything pink for her. Nothing girlie whatso ever.
Another sibling dictated the color pallet for her first son. Only Browns and greens. No blue, red or other colors would be worn or tolerated. After the first few years, both parents cooled off but it was so pushy there at the beginning.

Like, we went to one of DD's classmates parties the other day and a mom of a 3-yr-old boy said, "oh yeah, i have already determined "little girl a" and "little girl b" are his girlfriends.

How about they are babies and toddlers and sexualizing relationships for them is gross and creepy. Don't force kids into getting stuck in labels and boyfriens BS. phew. I'm not explaining this well, but i sure do hate it.

Flair Underwood,Slow clap. This may be a little crunchy of me, but what if I tell my son his whole childhood, "Oh look that's your girlfriend!" etc, etc, and then he's gay. I doubt it would be easy for him to tell me, regardless of what my reaction actually would be. It's setting them up poorly, in my opinion.

I agree!  DS has always has lots of female friends at school but we've always said it's like they're bro/sis, never "girlfriend/boyfriend", or we just refer to them as his friends and no gender explanation is needed.  I think that's creepy.

No, it's not crunchy.  I'm with you!  I also think, why make little girls think that boys are only there to be "boyfriends" or vice versa?  


My job requires a lot of training and resources regarding sexual assault and child sexual assault so I'm totally hyper vigilant.  I also think that the "boyfriend/girlfriend" label on little kids lends itself to not teaching physical boundaries and all that "boys will be boys" stuff when they try to hit or kiss girls.

My BIL and a good friend of mine did this with their daughters.  Very gender neutral, no pinks, etc.  Now, their girls are 6 and 4 and both LOVE pink and all things super girly.  Think tutus and sparkles galore.  I think it's hilarious!

ETA:  and seriously?  Only green and brown?  It sounds soooo boring!!!  There are a million colors, why not enjoy all of them!!?

Haha - reminds me of people we know.  They had a daughter and it was all "no princesses, no tutus, no glitter, no pink."  That girl is gonna LOOOOOOOOVE herself some pink fluffy stuff and there is nothing they can do about it.  I can't wait.
