guise. I had been sitting on the yoga ball for my back. She's been head down for a bit and PTL for me! So get you one of those haha. Things I'm NOT allowed to do right now: the sex, nipple stim, walking, no self O's, and no stress. So do all the things!
I have heard of the. Raspberry leaf tea working with quite a few of my mommy friends!
I have heard that sex and nipple stimulation are both very effective ways of naturally inducing. Even better if you have an orgasm since it releases oxytocin.
Not really induction advice, but other advice to help with labor.
One of the midwives at my practice fully admits that there's no science to back up her recommendation, but drink several cups of raspberry leaf tea a day late in pregnancy to ripen the cervix.
Also, the L&D nurse who subbed for our first childbirth class highly recommends crawling around on hands & knees late in pregnancy / early in labor to turn a posterior baby. And since most people don't know they have a posterior baby until they've been miserable for a while, to just do this as a preventative measure.
Thanks guys, this is super helpful so far! I've been telling DH that I'll be expecting all the sex. He's okay with that, lol. We'll break out the nipple clamps, lol! Walking is tricky for me because pain, but I'll try to incorporate it more.
I'm going to ask my OB and my mom about EPO and CO and see what they have to say, and I'll ask about whether our practice uses cervidil at all just in case.
I've been drinking raspberry leaf tea, I'll up my intake on that. And I'll get a yoga ball. I'm hoping that I'm dilated enough to strip at 39 weeks... Ideally I'm hoping to be at least a centimeter at our growth scan next week, since I know lots of people walk around partially dilated for ages. And baby J is head down and nice and low.
Fingers crossed for all of us to have the labors and deliveries we're hoping for!

I was induced last time and only found out around 9am that the induction was to start at 7pm. I was not dilated or effaced at all during my morning appointment. I called my acupuncturist who was able to squeeze me in that afternoon. I had regular acupuncture along with the kind where they use electrical stimulation on needles in your hands and feet (no worries, it doesn't hurt). When I was admitted at 7pm, I was 50% effaced and dilated to a 2.5. I 100% credit the acupuncture. I had been taking evening primrose oil orally for about a week before that with my doctor's blessing.
Talked to my OB. Got the ok for evening primrose oil and the don't you dare regarding cod liver oil, lol.
I wonder if my acupuncturist would see me... I'll have to call their office. I only get acupuncture when I have serious issues, but he's fantastic at what he does.
I did all the things last time- including a membrane sweep at 40 weeks. Sex, walking, spicy foods, etc. I went into labor naturally at 40 +6. Wish I had better news for you.
ETA- I also did acupuncture at 40 + 1 for induction.
Nada.
But I will share my plan for this time:
1. I will not pack my hospital bag until I'm actually in labor.
2. I will travel the 1.5 hours to work each day until I go into labor (through a tunnel, mind you)
3. I will plan a night out for 40 weeks + 1 day.
Those things should do the trick, right?
Murphy's Law. The night out should do it.
Oh for sure. DS was due on the day the first Avengers movie released, so I bought advance tickets earlier in the week because I thought surely he wasn't going to be born on his due date and we could get one last child free date. Well, it happened. My water broke the morning of my EDD and we ended up missing out. Little stinker.

The only advice I have is something that I read the other day which was that Eggplant induces labor! Im planning on doing all the other usual things (walking, sex etc) but im dead serious there were about 100+ comments on this website that all said that Eggplant did the trick. I have no idea why, I cant remember the website and I have absolutely no medical info to back this statement up but I mean, hey, it worth a shot and I love Eggplant so it really wont be a hassel for me, my work makes an amazing eggplant parm! lol
Oh and also my mom who is sitting right next to me said that smoking crack will induce labor...yup you probably shouldn't follow that advice! haha just sayin...

I hope you tell him that story every year when he gets older.
When I was induced with DS at the hospital I had cervadil, which is a prostaglandin cervical ripener. That was all it took & I was in active labor, no pitocin needed. That being said I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get the ball rolling with sex & nipple stimulation this time when the time gets closer.
In our class the other night, the instructor told us they don't use Cervadil much anymore because a lot of women are allergic to it and there's no way to know until they put it in.
Yikes, I imagine that would be unpleasant. I know it's still used pretty frequently before pitocin induction in my area. I tried for a minute to find something on this but the only thing I found said that allergies to it are rare but sound pretty terrible when they do happen. I do know about 10% of women are hypersensitive to it and it can cause too much uterine stimulation.

I did epo vaginally. I had DD the day before her due date. And I was in labor for nearly 2 days. I don't think it helped much with ripening my cervix. In fact I pushed not fully dilated. I will not be doing anything this time.
But I recommend walking, sex, and nipple stimulation. Good luck!

With DD, it was standard practice at my hospital that women start accupuncture around 36 weeks- weekly appointments- to help prep the cervix, etc. DD was born at 39 weeks, 6 hour labor sart to finish. It was awesome. I totally credit accupuncture.
My mom said that she heard pulsatilla can help the process as well. It's homeopathic and like everything else, there's no scientific backing. But it certainly won't hurt me to take it, so I'll be giving that a shot as well. She gets it from her naturopath.
Raspberry leaf tea did nothing for me. Sex just gave me really strong FALSE contractions that just resulted in pain and no baby. Stripping did nothing. Spicy food, pineapple did nothing. Sorry baby will come when baby wants to no way besides inductions to get there faster.
I had planned a huge cookie exchange party for the day DD was born, had to call everyone and cancel. I still call her my party crasher. That's all I got, she's impatient to this day!
I asked my OB about cervidil, since it sounds better than pit. She said since its a cervix ripener (prostaglandin) they use it if your uterus is closed. If you're already dilated they don't use it because it doesn't accomplish anything. Still hoping to find I'm at least a little dilated next week so I know we can move forwards with the membranes and such when the time comes. Because I'm middle of the road with my GD (on medication but not insulin. Acceptable sugar levels) we'll have to wait and see how baby J is measuring next week before I know how soon they would want to try a chemical induction.

Last time I heard so many crazy things to try: eating a big Italian meal, squatting down and scrubbing my kitchen floors, eating spicy foods, and of course walking. I tried all of these things, but mostly I walked a lot (more than 5 miles a day every day for the last week I was pregnant). None of it worked and DS was born exactly a week late, the day before my scheduled induction. My legs and feet were sore so from all the walking I was doing that I'm definitely not doing that again this time around.
I have two friends who are both massage therapists. There is an area by the ankle that if you massage it supposedly puts you into labor. They both did it and they both delivered before their due date

So what I've taken away from this thread is that the only thing that seems to consistently be successful is planning something fun that you're baby is sure to crash...
