DD was my 2nd, and I was hoping to try for a VBAC but it was shot down pretty early on in my pregnancy due to the reason I needed one for my DS. I had a C-section with my DS at 41 weeks because his head was measuring large (4 weeks ahead) and he was not dropping and they felt I would not have a successful induction. It was the right choice as DS's head at birth was 14.75" and he was not able to drop due to his head size and my pelvic opening.
My C-section was scheduled for 39wk 1 day and I had to be at the hospital at 5:30am as my OR time was 7:45am. I woke up around 4:45am (not that I really slept well) took a shower, got ready, and then DH and I were on our way. We got to the hospital and checked in and then they started getting me all hooked up. DD was not a fan of the monitor on my belly and was kicking so hard and moving so much that after about 5 minutes of them constantly having to move it around to get a good printout they gave up! The Doctor came in as well as the anesthesiologist to explain everything and answer questions and then before I knew it, it was time to go to the OR.
DH walked next to me as they wheeled me towards the OR, and at the doors DH had to stay behind and get suited up while I continued in to get my spinal. It was the Nurse anesthesiologist who was placing my spinal and she wasn't able to do it. She tried for almost 10 minutes (it felt like she was just sticking my back at random) while they had me try different positions, and then they finally had to call in the head anesthesiologist. Within 2 minutes he had my spinal placed and the creepy feeling of numbness started and then before I knew it they were starting and DH was brought back in. He looked concerned because he saw people coming in and out and it took a lot longer than when I had my DS so I told him about the spinal issues and he seemed to relax.
I had allowed them the have medical and nursing students involved in my care so the doctor was doing a play by play during the whole procedure. I actually liked it because it gave me something to concentrate on. Apparently I had a ridiculous amount of amniotic fluid because when they broke my water it went everywhere and was gushing and the doctor remarked it was much more than normal. My DH said it was like a dam breaking...awesome! with a few pulls and pushes in my abdomen next thing I knew DD was out and crying. they held her up and I saw she had a good amount of hair and looked like a chunk! (she was 8lbs 15oz) they cleaned her up, let DH cut the cord, and then brought her to me. I was able to give her a kiss then DD and DH headed to the nursery while they closed me up and then brought me to recovery. I had to be there for them to monitor my vitals for 30 minutes and then I was brought to my room where DH was waiting.
they got me moved over to my bed and then a few minutes later they came in with DD and I was able to hold her and nurse her for the first time. Because of her size they had to do a couple of heel pricks to check her sugar but after doing 3 with all normal results they said she was good. I stayed at the hospital for 2 nights and had the best nurses.
