We will use whatever site has the cheapest deal at the time for picture cards and then send out a handwritten note with an actual print to those who would actually want them(MIL, close aunts, etc)
We did them with DD and will do them again this time. I can't remember if we used shutterfly or snapfish but they were pretty cheap. There are always coupons around for those sites.
Glad you brought this up and I like OP's idea of doing a mass bcc email and then mailing printed announcements to a select few.
I'm going to try and avoid doing many facebook posts of baby, but it's so convenient and who knows if I will have the time or energy to compile a decent email once he arrives. I do agree printed announcements make a really nice keepsake and I LOVE getting baby announcements in the mail!
I'm thinking I will send them as thank you cards for the shower. A combo type thing
I would, except my shower is a month from my due date, and typically I think you're supposed to send out thank you's within 2 weeks (if I'm not mistaken).
Thanks! I looked at a lot of these sites and I think we'll end up doing them. Although, I hadn't even considered professional newborn photos until people mentioned them. I thought just the cards were expensive, lol. I'm not a photographer, but I have a nice camera, so I hope we can get some ok shots that will look good on a card. I'll probably stick to close family and friends and put up some digital photos for other people. We both have facebook, but feel very strongly about not putting important personal stuff on it. I think emails/texts/calls when baby is born and then announcement cards and a digital photo album will be good for us. I don't think I'll order the cards until I've got the photo but I'll use our wedding mailing list to make a spreadsheet of the addresses so that it's ready to go.

We'll be sending out cards, a lot of oot family and friends that aren't on fb. Our OB also hangs them in their office if you send one. DS and DD's are both still up, and it's fun to see.

Good point! My shower is next Sunday. It's possible my boy could be here in 3 weeks, but I think it would be a lot of working getting everything out in a timley manner. Thanks for pointing out that etiquette
On the one hand, I love getting these from people! My fridge is covered in them. And I'd love to print some and send them out. But realistically, I don't know that I will have my shit together enough to actually do them.
Yes, we plan on doing them. I'll probably send them to everyone who we invited to my shower (extended family and friends). I think its a nice, old school gesture. I'm not going to go crazy on cost, but I figure I'll find something cute and inexpensive and try to use a coupon on Shutterfly or something.
