I'm not sure if there is an official time to stop, but I stopped sleeping on my stomach at 20 weeks with DD because it wasn't comfortable anymore. With DS, it was a lot sooner because it made me feel sick and my boobs were super sensitive.
babyzebra last time they had the talk with me at 15 weeks. No belly, no back. That's when I bought a snoogle
Interesting. What was the reason they gave you? If you don't mind me asking. Most pregnant women that I know were told to stop when they're uncomfortable around 20 weeks or so.
I was uncomfortable around 12 weeks the first time. Now, I am nine weeks and beginning to be uncomfortable on my belly. Plus, the fabulous pregnancy congestion makes it worse.

They told me to do whatever is comfortable. And I move around a ton in my sleep so it's not like I could avoid it anyway. It would only make me paranoid.

Umm... He's almost 4 now so it was a long time ago, but I think that appointment was like"FYI you're going to need to stop sleeping on your back and your stomach." I think the next appointment was when they checked to make sure I wasn't. They (my doctors) were big about no back sleeping. Tummy sleeping was more when it became uncomfortable I think.
Your husband will probably hate it, but it was the best pillow ever. Especially during those uncomfortable months. It also helped me stay on my side and not on my back.

I always ALWAYS sleep on my back.... not looking forward to this at all Im planning to stay on my back until I'm uncomfortable.... which I'm hoping will be not until 3rd trimester. We'll see...
I'm not a tummy sleeper but I also recommend one of those pregnancy pillows. Mine wasn't a snoogle, it was leachco brand but I was basically surrounded by pillow and it was glorious. I would cuddle with my H a few times a week and then crawl into my hole lol. He wasn't a fan of the pillow but I didn't care.
We cosleep for parts of the night with my son so I haven't brought it out yet. Im hoping that suddenly and miraculously my son sttn soon and I'll be able to go back to the pillow. Or we are attaching a cosleeper so everyone can sleep comfortably
Sometime during the 3rd trimester with DS I got stuck in my snoogle in the middle of the night when I wanted to get up to pee. I'm not sure how it happened, but I was flailing my arms and legs around like a turtle that got rolled onto its shell. Finally, DH had to get out of bed and pull me out of my tangled mess.

hahahaha! I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but this is hilarious! I am feeling super sick today and you made my day! thanks for sharing!

OMG is this a thing? I thought I've had a cold for the longest time! I have wicked dry mouth at night too.

Yes, pregnancy congestion is a thing and it's terrible. It has something to do with the additional blood flow creating excess fluid or something like that. All I know is that it's miserable. Sorry you're both dealing with it!
I'm glad you started this thread, babyzebra. Even though it's only been a couple of years since I was pregnant I feel like I've forgotten so much.
I also recommend a snoogle. I started using one around 15 weeks last time and it was a lifesaver. I couldn't get sleep without it. I'm only a little over 9 weeks now and I'm thinking about getting it out again.
I just looked up the snoogle. I'll get one, but I guarantee my husband is going to try to steal it from me. He's always creating little pillow nests for himself.
Another rec for a pregnancy pillow of some kind. I've seen some cute designs online that you can make yourself if you're crafty and don't want to spend $$ on a pillow you'll only use for a few months. Having a pillow to support my belly and hips last time made it a little easier to sleep. The hip pain was out of control toward the end.

So many times with my last pregnancy I'd wake up and my H was spooning/using my snoogle.
Here is a dumb question. When does 2nd tri officially start? I've seen conflicting info on this one.
I've heard anything from 12 to 14 weeks. 40/3 is 13.3, so that's the date a lot of people use. But, I think the people who cut off the first trimester at 12 weeks do so because of the change in developmental status that happens then. Here's a link that explains it better than I can:

Re: back sleeping... I remember from my first time around that i would wake up if I was sleeping on my back. The midwife told me that would happen but I thought she was crazy. Your body will take care of itself!

The last few weeks of my pregnancy with DS my body would do exactly that and my arms and legs were always really tingly by that time. It was pretty crazy feeling.
Another back sleeping PSA, I had a very strong reaction from just laying completely flat on my back early/mid second trimester while getting a facial. I completely forgot about the warning and after 10-15 min of laying flat started to get incredibly warm, dizzy, nauseous and almost passed out. I agree with others that whilst sleeping your body will tend to take care of this itself, by waking you up.
Also another vote for the snoogle or whatever that giant u-shaped pregnancy pillow is called. I used that in combination with about 5 other pillows in 3rd tri. I'm going to try my best not to get frustrated with how awful sleep can be during pregnancy this time around, there is only so much you can do.

Helpful, thanks! The development one makes the most sense to me. Or maybe I'm just so tired of being nauseous that I'm willing second tri to come as quickly as possible.

I'm sorry, this is hilarious. My H would probably take a picture of me first to keep for blackmail

Me too! Just realized that my dry mouth is probably from mouth breathing because of the congestion.
