So my DDs are 21m and 7w. I breastfed DD1 until she weaned in her 14th month. Now I EBF DD2. DD1 is not jealous or interested in nursing, but I am contemplating giving her a glass of pumped milk each day. She eats well but has had SO many colds in the last 4 months (since starting preschool), I wonder if the breast milk would help her fight off some of these infections? I fortunately make plenty of milk and think I could add an extra pumping in without harming DD2, but would it do any good? How many oz do you think I should give? Ugh, it's just really draining on all of us. I feel like I've had a cold since Sept 2 and we've had to take DD2 into the hospital TWICE already due to difficulty breathing and a fever from aforementioned ridiculous series of colds. Last night DD1 was up basically all night hacking and sneezing, so that plus newborn sleep, I'm desperate!!
I don't think your breast milk will help her fight off colds. Kids get sick when they're around other kids. I would just try to make sure every eats as healthy as they can, cleanup germs and try to get more sleep.
It's not going to harm her in any way at all. It MAY help but that's no guarantee either! I don't think it's nuts. It just sounds like a lot of work for you, but why not try? There is no harm in trying!
If you try be prepared that she may not want the milk. I tried to give my M14 baby some pumped milk bc DS wants nothing to do with bottles and DD refused it. I put it in a sippy and she still refused it. I didn't try giving it to her cold tho - which right now makes a lot of sense bc that's how she drinks milk...
