Jakob has had a cough for about a week and a half. Running nose. Like so runny its in his mouth. His cough sounds like death. We went last week to the nurse practitioner and she said virus. That was last Monday. Wouldn't he be over it by now? Now Cadey is coughing like a fool. A whooping cough death just happened near us. I'm kinda in panic mode.
DS had a bronchiolitis a few weeks ago and had a cough that lasted just over 2 weeks with it. He also poured snot and had a rattle and wheeze in his chest. Sounds like Jacob has something similar but you should definitly get it checked out again. Also whooping cough has a very different noise from a regular cough
I've read that viruses can take a while, but figuring out which virus or how to best help your kids through it is a good reason to consult a professional. Don't feel silly for going in, or calling a nurse line if you have one. I hope both kids are healthy again really soon.
My kid has a constant runny nose. We never know when to take him but he was digging in his ear, so we did and he had a double ear infection- no fever, no signs other than fighting sleep and digging his ear a few times. The doctor can check for whooping cough but if he got the vaccine/ you did in late pregnancy, he at least would have some protection.
Edit: YouTube whooping cough and listen. It's a totally weird cough. Also- listen to croup cough, etc.. Might give you a quick idea.
I don't think you're crazy at all! I'm pretty sure I have been at the pediatricians office at least a few times every month for DDs entire life. I would get it checked again also but I don't think it's that uncommon for a cough/runny nose to last longer than a week. Hopefully it's nothing too serious!
Not crazy at all. I'm thinking about taking DD back to the doctor. She was jut there Friday and has her 9 month check up in a few weeks but she's been sick for over a week now. Doesn't seem to be getting better. If your mommy sense says go to the doctor, go. Not crazy at all.

Was it for ears? Our doc said if he wasn't better halfway through the meds to bring him back in.
Well it started out runny nose and congestion. Then her eyes got watery and swollen so we took her in. They gave us eye drops and that helped her eyes but she's still congested and is having a hard time breathing. Also now she's coughing a lot. So I'm hoping they can figure it out. I feel like if it was just a cold it should have ran its course by now.
I hope they feel better soon. I think calling is a good idea, for peace of mind and also to avoid sitting in a waiting room with other sick kids unless it's necessary.

When he coughs then takes a breath the sound is terrifying. Sounds like a 90 year old smoker.
Also agree with the pertussis cough being a very distinctive cough...but if you're anything like me, you will probably still think it's similar and freak out anyway.

It's good you're calling. I really really hope it's not pertussis, but if it is finding out now is better than finding out later. I hope whatever it is there's something you can do to help, and that it clears up really soon.

At a week and a half it could still be a virus running its course. Some of them take for-freaking-ever to go away...BUT...this far in she should be on the upswing (even if it is gradual). Heading in the other direction is reason for concern, as is mommmy gut. There are distinctive coughs that can be worrisome (ie the pertussis one, a seal like one and if LO is sucking in below the ribs as they breathe [striders]). If you are worried, call. That's what they're there for.
I hope they all feel better soon. DS had a bad cold and a real bad cough for about a week and it's lingered for awhile. I used the humidifier religiously and steamy bathroom.
You know your child best... if you are concerned than definitely go in.

You are definately not crazy! My DD is sick too and I called my pediatrician and talked to an MA about if I should come in. Its ok to be protective over our LO's
