ITS A GIRL!!!!!! I'm beyond shocked I had convinced myself she was a boy!
Mir.en Hol.ly was born 1/18 at 11 something pm. 7 lbs. 20 in. I'll have a better detailed birth story but for now the gist is I was not progressing fast enough I labored for 10 hours at home and finally went in. I was a three but got to a four so they kept me! She had heart rate issues in triage so I was on fluid. Got the epi. Then the pit. Slept for a bit and then started with pushing. She was having heart rate decels with the pushing so the midwife did cut me to get her out quick. I only pushed for 17 min and they were all surprised by that. Everyone says she looks like me:) she even has these stork bites where I have stork bites! It's adorable:)
the full birth story!
Wed 1/13 I start losing my mucus plug
sat into sun 1/17 contractions wake me up but eventually disappear.
Sun into mom 1/18 contractions wake me up again and stay! They start at 10ish minapart. I have them all day but never at a consistent time apart. Sometimes they'd be 3 min then 7 then 5 and so on. Finally I decide the pain is bad enough we need to get checked even though I was not exactly meeting the 5/1/1 rule (because of time between contractions). We get to the hospital and I'm a three plus the contractions timing is off so they're ready to send me home. Then baby has a heart rate drop and they flip me to my side and monitor longer which gave me time to get to a 4! My midwife admits me and I chill for a bit while DH runs home for a dog break. While he's gone midwife checks me and breaks my water. I'm a five at this point. Contractions still stay funky and I know enough to assume pitocin was in my future so I knew I'd want thespian with that. DH gets back and I request the epi and a min later she sugests the pit. We chill for a few hours and then it's time:) my first few practice pushes are good and nurse is impressed since I can't feel much. Then with pushing babies heart rate starts dropping. Midwife gets there and they're all glad I'm pushing well and cheering me on. After 17 min of pushing the midwife gave me an episiotomy meaning she cut me opento help get baby out. She thought the cord was around babies neck and needed to be quick. I'm good with it just so sore! Cord was actually around her leg a few times. At 11:37 They pull her out and the nurse says "well dad what is it?" And we look while midwife is checking her out. I was thinking like wait that's not a penis is it a girl?! Sure enough it's a girl! I had convinced myself it was a boy probably half because I did want a girl and didn't want to be sad if it was a boy. They plop her on me and wipe her up a bit and then we're just chilling while my midwife is fixing my lady bits. I just kept saying "omg your a girl I can't believe this" the nurse says right away she looks just like me and DH points out her birth marks that are the same as mine:) we chill with skin to skin for over an hour then do the quick baby checks. She was 7lbs and 20in. She's since dropped to 6.6 but we're working on it! I ended up with a fever which worried them but we determined it was from the quick pushing, dehydration, and being hungry. We move to recovery by 3 am and so begins our life as parents:) I'll add more pics because that was always my fav! oh and her name, we loved Mir.en right when we found it in a baby book and Holly is my moms middle name:)
