Oh FFS, what I'm trying to say is that Brooklyn is not a name that will be taken seriously. It may not be outlandish, but it is ridiculous and ugly. You may not be concerned, but your kid is the one who has to carry the name. And what you're hearing here is tame compared to what people will be saying behind your back and perhaps top your daughter IRL. There may be quite a few Brooklyns in the future (and excuse me while I hork), but there won't be a Supreme Court Justice Brooklyn. Again, Brooklyn is NOT a name, and no amount of people using it will change that anytime soon.

BTN is www.behindthename.com. It gives the history, meaning, and etymology of names. Brooklyn is listed as "modern", btw. On BTN this pretty much means had no history of use as a name, and had only been added because a number of parents thought it would be a good idea to give the name of a NYC borough to their kid.

No hyperbole here. It's a fact that names such as Brooklyn aren't taken seriously the adult professional world. And it will get an internal eye roll from many people she meets.

I don't think it would ruin anyone's life, but it's an ugly non-name, so why use it? I know a woman with daughters named Brookly.n and Gwendol.yn and man is it ever obvious who got the short end of the naming stick there...
