As a newcomer I am assuming I wouldn't be entitled to the password, but I definitely think it should be available to established users :-)
ETA: In case that sounds as though I'm looking for hair pats and reassurance, I'm not. I know I'm really real, and my profile pic is my baby and me, but I've only been around for a few weeks and several people were, entirely reasonably, suspicious when a whole lot of us de-lurked at the same time. So I think it would be completely reasonable for long-term board users to have access to the private board, and the rest of us can continue to play on the main board.
purple , brings up a good point though - who is going to decide who gets to have the password? Are we going to have rules for joining the sub board? There are a few lurkers turned posters who are very infrequent in their posting - do we let them in if they request it?
This is the issue we've had in the past. I would say maybe we have a minimum post requirement before you can join the sub board so we can establish people are legit. Maybe 100? 150? Thoughts?
And if there are problems on the sub board we can change passwords.
Maybe instead of a post count total, so many posts in the last 30 days? I for one would hate to exclude someone that has recently joined, but has established herself as a regular poster. Just my two cents.
I will refrain from voting because I'm mostly on Facebook these days. I don't think I would get any use from the sub board so I won't have any need to ask for the password. I do think it's a good idea for the posters who are worried about their privacy and not willing to share their IRL names to Internet strangers.

This is where I'm at. I want to be able to talk to people more openly but not on FB with my real name. I am FB friends with a few people here but don't want to be in a big group so a sub board is a happy medium for me. I wish the FB people, from more than one group, (some of you lurkers know I'm talking to you!) would come back to post here more.
ETA: And if folks don't want a strict requirement thing I totally get that. If you trust me and B to make that decision, that's fine with me too. I was just throwing that out as a thought.
Not sure I would post in it, I guess it depends on what, if anything changes in the normal board. Right now I don't feel I need it but I also don't want to miss out on anything, if that makes sense.
I agree mods would be fine at screening but I'm a little unclear on how it works. So if I have the password after passing the screening test, what's stopping me personally from handing it off to anyone else? Not saying I or anyone here would do that, but it only takes one person to leak it, right?
ETA: Just read some discussion on the other thread and if HDBD is going over there, I would like to join and use the PW.
madymoiselle this whole idea is only assuming all regular posters are legit. There is a possibility that any of us could be totally fake. Im only remembering that shit show on the dump where a very regular poster, who had been posting for years and was considered a "leader" on the board, turned out to be a total catfish. I'm just saying even if it's a private board, don't make that drop all of your internet privacy. It's still a "public" forum. And for the record, I am exactly who I say I am

I'm late, can't vote, but I think this is a great idea, especially for hdbd. Also +1 to the mods handing out the password being the right call - assuming I've passed the "not here to skin suit anyone" test by now
Once the sub-board is established, anyone who wants in would PM me or JBC for the PW. We will change the password every so often just in case, and address any issues as they arise.
I think it should be a mix for eligibility: participation in enough posts, but also posting recently enough.
I feel pretty confident in making those judgment calls when people PM us; do you all trust us to do that, since it's not possible or appropriate to publicly dissect eligibility?
You are our Mods for a reason. I for one would feel confident in you two making the judgement call as to who gets the password and who doesnt.
budders Thank you. After reading the continuation of the IP address thread, I get it more now. I'm on board and would like to participate. I have been hesitant in the past to post current HDBD posts and I've specifically avoided including my older son's face in photos. Not saying I would start now, but I don't see anything negative coming from a private board. Thanks for organizing.

You mean I shouldn't just start posting my ss number and banking information? Lol! Also, it probably doesn't help that we've been marathoning Catfish on Hulu all weekend.

I have never posted here frequently but have been here since practically the beginning. But I definitly don't post often, I read. Sorry. Life happens though and I'm on FB more. But I don't want to miss out when I'm reading!
The board is all set-up! Let me know if any of you have any problems.
If the mods do find out that someone is sharing the password or there is a concern that the board isn't secure we can change the password as often as need be. Just have your mods choose a new password and PM any admin.
Thank you for setting this up for us!! And thank you Mods for all that you do for the board!
In trying to come back and post more. I have been around since the very beginning but disappeared after having DD2 because I was so damn busy with 2u2.
