G has been potty trained since Thanksgiving. There was a bit of a regression around Christmas, but we are back to normal now. She does wear pull ups at nap and bedtimes.

She was definitely just ready, and trained fairly easily. We used chocolate covered raisins for the first bit as treats, but just when she went #2. Lots of praise and high fives, let her pick out her own undies, and we sang the song from Daniel Tiger about going potty to get her excited. Then we switched to saying no accidents all week, and you'll get a new book.

DD has been potty trained since early August and like mommabakes she was just ready. She started really refusing diaper changes for a couple of weeks and would say no diaper when you tried to put a clean one on her, it got to be a major PIA so finally one saturday morning I had enough. I brought her to pick out her underwear and bought a pack of pull ups because I didnt know what to expect. We brought her home and began potty training, put her potty seat on the living room and let her run around in her underwear and she just took to it (we'd put her in pull ups when out of the house for any long period of time but she wouldn't even go in those so I stopped using those). She did have maybe a handful of accidents in thay first week and also a regression around November (we moved to a new house then) that only lasted two days. I didn't put diapers back on her at that point because I wanted her to have the yucky feeling when she'd go in her pants so she'd realize thats not what she wanted to do. Since then she's had maybe an accident or two when I think she just didn't make it in time to the potty. Now she will go on her own and I just go and help her wipe. She only wears a diaper at night, she holds it during her naptime.

Prior to all this she has had exposure to her potty seat for about 4 months and we would ask her if she wanted to sit on it before bed and once in a while she'd go pee. We've always made a huge deal if she'd go and lots of praise, let her take book so she'd sit for a little bit of time, and sometimes I'd pull up a youtube video about potty training. I didn't use any treat rewards because she didn't seem to need any but I have heard good things about the sticker charts that people use.

Maybe try different potty seats..a kid size one, the cushioned potty ring (they make those with different characters on them), or they make a potty seat you can buy that has a built in childs seat (we found it at Lowes) it kind of makes them feel like they are using the big potty like mommy and daddy. There's really not much you can do besides continuing to expose him to it and when he shows he's really ready go for it!

ETA: jnetx do you ask/take him to the potty frequently (like every 20-30 minutes)? Sometimes they just need the constant reminder that they may need to go, they get so into whatever they are doing and forget. What happens when he goes in his underwear? Like does he come straight to you to be changed and not like that feeling? Could you try a whole day in just underwear and camp out at home for the day near the potty he uses? Just some thoughts but if he's not ready nothing will likely work. Just keep revisiting it and continue the exposure to it, he will get there!

We have stickers, M&Ms, a soft seat for on the big potty, a kid sized potty, a chart on the wall for star stickers when she goes and peppa pig and Abby cadabby underwear (her choice.)

We've been using the Oh Crap Potty book since Valentine's Day and like the concept.

DD did well I during the 3-day boot camp and I really had high hopes. Problem is, she REFUSES to poop on the potty. Not 100% sure why - it will be coming out of her and she will still refuse just to sit and let it happen so because of that she had to wear pull ups to school and I feel that made her regress in the pee department. Last week I talked to the teacher about it and she said OK to trying underwear. DD usually averaged 2 accidents a day.

So as of right now I would say we are just working through it. Lots of poop books, and I have been reading more up on it latley. Her sister is due is May so I hope to have made more progress by then. I know she is ready and can do it, I just need to get the poop thing figured out and I feel that the pee will get even better.

Are you using a potty seat or little potty? I was watching my kid poop on the little potty and he was squatting over it and jumping. I don't know if he'd be able to go on a big potty yet.

Little potty - she has the Elmo potty. She doesn't want to sit on it when pooping - no issues for sitting and pee'ing

This thread makes me nervous and sad.

Between a new baby and daycare not being consistent with taking her we aren't even close. She has gone a couple time, but just freaks when I ask her if she has to go. Daycare is trying, but they have 7 classrooms vying for bathroom time, the young and mid 2s kind of get out of the potty loop. The older 2s and 3s get top potty time.

I'm glad to read that we aren't alone in this battle being just that.... a battle. We've tried bribing her with treats, letting her watch a movie on the iPad, the sticker charts, etc... she just has absolutely no interest so we've put it aside for awhile and hope to try again in a few weeks.

On the plus side, her and DD2 are wearing the same size diapers, so that's at least convenient. Haha.

DS just isn't ready. He will tell me when he needs a new diaper and understands the concept of using a potty but he just doesn't want to and has told us this multiple times. Daycare director has said many kids will potty train when they see other kids do it, but DS isn't interested. I am not interested in battling him on it anytime soon, so diapers it is.

It's frustrating though bc I know he's physically capable, and I'm tired of the grossness and expense of diapers. But whatever.

I plan to use Thomas stickers as a reward, which I know will be thrilling to him.

That's great jnetx!! Don't sweat the candy and stickers, do what ya gotta do mama! I wouldn't stop asking him to go for quite a while, I think you're better off increasing the time slowly and reminding him often that if he needs to go to let you know. DD has been potty trained for a while and I still ask her to go everyday (not every 30 minutes) but I've gotten used to her bathroom patterns and I know typically when she needs to go. She will tell me when she needs to go but I still make her try to go before we leave the house, when she wakes up, before bed even if she says she doesn't want to. I believe the night potty training is a whole nother ball game and we are no where close to that and I'm ok with that we don't need anymore extra wake ups at night right now. I'd recommend to slowly work away from the pull ups on outings, try to make your trips at first really quick (less then 30 minutes), have him go potty before you leave, always bring a change of clothes just in case, praise him when you get home if you have no accidents and if you choose to reward him. Increase out of the house time once he's gotten the hang if the shorter trips and when you start longer ones (grocery trips etc) being him to the restroom there (gross I know but it's important for them to get used to going out in public restrooms also (they can be scary for little kids, the loud flushing especially the automatic ones, ait hand dryers etc). You're doing great mama!!

Only sporadic progress over here... He still REFUSES to poop in the potty, he will run and hide. And he doesn't want to pee In the potty during the day.. I will be so glad when he does actually get out of diapers because diapers for two are expensive..

We used the Oh Crap Potty Train book also. We started mid February. He did really well the first weekend we had poop and pee success and even went to the store. About a week later he had an accident at DC and he regressed. I started giving him coins for his piggy bank if he used the potty and that helped. We are at about 1 accident a week now. He is not night trained but frequently wakes up dry

Working on potty training here. We have three potty seats (two on the main floor where we are most of the day so they can potty together and one on the second floor where the bedrooms are). I'm looking into soft potty seats for the big toilets. We started in Feb or March and have had hit and miss success. Kayla was the champion pee-pee kid for a while, then she had her first poop on the potty which was large and must have hurt a bit coming out (she cried). That caused her to go on a potty strike for over a month where she would sit but refuse to do anything at all. Ashley was slower to start using the potty, but she's been pretty good lately about both poop and pee.

Neither one will tell me that she wants/needs to potty though.

Our reward system is stickers in sticker books. One sticker for a pee. Two for a poop. (Or several tiny stickers to make up on bigger sticker.) It has been a HUGE hit with them. I have an entire organizer box with all sorts of stickers in it - from Disney to animals to superheroes to My Little Ponies, etc. They usually pick their sticker, then proceed to look back at all the ones they have already earned.

We're using pull ups for the moment. I did buy some panties for them and may try (since it's summer and nice out) to put them in panties, not the diapers, and let them play outside. (That way when they pee/poop, it doesn't get all over the house.) Maybe the feeling of being wet/dirty will push them along in the right direction.

annarose, mommytoone How has pooping on the potty gone since you last checked in? We are now in underwear full time, only 2 pee pee accidents in over a week, but aside from that first time DD will not poop on the potty. I don't want to regress so I'm not putting her in diapers. So far daycare has been ok with this, but I don't know if it stays if they will be and I really don't want to go back to diapers.

mommytoone, Good Luck he'll get there!! DD is just potty trained and is only the second one in her daycare class wearing underwear. It also happened overnight. She was just ready one day, and I hope the same holds true for you.

We finally got another (it's been like 2 weeks) poop on the potty!! I was getting worried because she was holding it and I couldn't even get her to put on a pull up and just go because she said she doesn't wear diapers anymore. We had her sitting on the potty until after 9pm last night after a day of skid marks because she was forcing it in and crying before she finally pooped! We had a big celebration!

Unknown & @fiveohfive hang in there ladies!! They wont refuse forever and I'm sorry for the extra laundry and icky diapers . Toddler poop is awful.

It finally happened! DD poops on the potty now and I can say we are potty trained during the day we still do pull ups at night ( wakes up mostly dry but there are those days where she wakes up soaking wet. Not ready to deal with that yet). She moved into the big girl class at school and from day one, started ripping on the potty. Peer pressure is amazing I guess lol she poop's at home now and we went out and got her some new toys and a cupcake as a reward. We still see skid marks in her underwear but I assume this is normal - this is all new as of last week.

And yes, the new baby is here sorry for my delayed response. She is almost 10 weeks old and will be starting daycare on Monday as I return to work love her to death. It's amazing just how different she is than her sister. I'm glad to have out competed little family. dD1 LOVES her - always wanting to hug, kiss and touch her lol

I do too. It's so hard not to. Especially when it isn't just an accident but you've asked over and over if they need to go and they just refuse to. Don't be too hard on yourself mama.

DD still great with almost no pee accidents, but still will not poop on the potty. We got her a present and it's sitting in the box in the family room (for 2w now), and she knows it's there for when she goes poop. She'll comment on it excitedly, and I'll ask if she wants to go poop to get her present and she'll just say "no, thank you".
