I don't get why people like Dr. Who. It's soooo cheesy!!!
Agreed. I like Sherlock, Spaced, Coupling, and other British shows, plus everyone raves about Dr Who, so we gave it a go a few months ago. We kept waiting for it to get good, but the whole episode was just so silly and not good at all. Maybe we'd need to watch a lot to "get it", but it didn't seem worth the time investment.
There's one episode called "Blink" that is actually really good. Other than that, cheese fest!!!
I'm not pro anti or delayed vax but I do want to break them up. I just don't like the idea of bombarding my child's body with so many metals and preservatives all in one day. I say do two one week and go back the next week and do the rest. I mean there IS a reason they have a specific flu vaccine just for pregnant women that's preservative free. I guess that would be my UO....
The actual reason for the preservative free vaccine for pregnant women is so that pregnant women will get it. I know, it sounds hard to believe, but it's not a medicine issue, it's a PR issue. Doctors have in some sense given up trying to convince people that vaccines are safe, so they have created preservative or thimerosal free vaccines so that skeptical people will get them. I promise is this is 100% true. I got the regular flu shot at work because they were giving it out and it was convenient and free, and didn't give it a second thought. I know as much as I need to/care to know about the science behind vaccines and have no problem vaccinating my kid on the standard schedule. Not saying you should, just that it's perfectly safe to do so.
Also, I generally don't really get into the vaccine debate, because I find that it's usually pointless, rarely do people change their minds. However, it is funny that I am a person who does not develop a positive immunity response to rubella. you can give me the MMR as many times you want, and when you draw a titre it will say that I'm not immune to rubella. Because I work in healthcare, every job I've had in the last 15 years I've had to provide a MMR titre, and every single time they require me to get an MMR vaccine because rubella is negative. I also had one after my first kid - they gave it to me without asking because the drawn titre was negative (! believe me, we had words). Anyway, I've had enough MMRs to cause problems if it was going to. I'm guessing i'll receive several more.
This, exactly. My PCP told me there is no reason not to get the regular flu shot. He told me I could get the preservative free version if I wanted can, but it would just be for my peace of mind and not for any actual safety benefit. Ironically, when I got the preservative free version, I was told there is an added risk if you are asthmatic, which I am. I was fine, but I probably would have been better off with the regular one!
My UO...I HATE the vaccine debate. No one ever changes anyone's mind, everyone seems to get mean and nasty, and it just NEVER ends. I have blocked people because they won't stop posting about it...it's just annoying. I get the importance of the matter but calling people names on FB helps no one and annoys me.
I think bed sharers are on to something, and I wish DH hadn't heard from so many medical professionals that it is dangerous. I swear it almost feels like an instinct to want to keep the baby super close to me at night.
DH was the same way about bed sharing until I showed him an article by Dr. Sears about its benefits. We tried it a few times after he read it, but it didn't work for us. I woke up once to find that he had accidentally covered LO (who was on the other side of the bed from him, with me in the middle) up to his neck with the sheets. That's when I decided that it wasn't for us.
Dr Sears writes a TON about cosleeping. He is the reason I got comfortable enough to give it a shot. I LOVE it. We all sleep so much better with it. It's not for everyone but I love having her so close and she sleeps much longer and more deeply snuggled up to me. If DH has had a few drinks I make him sleep elsewhere or sober up and he has to shower after cigar night with the guys. But otherwise the research they have done on the connection of mama and baby and how they each sleep..lit fascinates me and made me much more comfortable with it.

Totally. I get you. I'm not debating. I actually point out the fact that the preservative free (and thimerosal free, in terms of the MMR and childhood vaccines) vaccines are available because of PR as a criticism of doctors and medicine. I mean, if we're saying vaccines are safe (which we are), then we should double down and stand by them being safe. Removing the aspects that people are concerned about and offering these alternative shots just undermines the message. It's kind of like having a person tell you they're afraid to walk to work because they think a piano might fall on their head. And you say, a piano is definitely not going to fall on your head, but they're adamant and won't do it. So you give them a piano proof cage to walk to work in. The fact that you've validated their fear legitimizes it, and makes everyone else walking to work wonder if they, too, should be inside a piano proof cage. It's a silly example, but my point is really not about the pros and cons of vaccinating or whether anyone should or shouldn't. I'm just saying that capitulating to people's worries actually makes them worry more, not less. does that make sense?
Oh absolutely. I was not referring to you specifically it's just all over fb and the news and I am just over it. Ready for people to freak out over something new. Arguments on both sides can be ridiculous...and someone take one little thing and blows it out of proportion like you were saying. Doesn't help anyone.
ETA: I like the piano example. Some of the things people come up with are more ridiculous and sillier than that.

I would prefer the one with preservatives i know the risk of micro contamination! There is no proven risk of preservatives but we all know the risks of bacterial infections!!!!

DH and I just had a HUGE debate about this this evening (ironically after I posted about it earlier). I'm not saying I lost because, well, I'm very hard headed and when I feel that I'm right I won't concede with anyone just to end the argument. I guess DH and I both lose, because LO is sleeping in her PNP once again and DH is receiving a mighty cold shoulder. I suggested he read a Dr. Sears article but he refused to. He's very touchy about the whole "maternal instinct" argument and says that he doesn't believe the BFing bond is a real thing...

Ugh. I'm sorry DH and I have a few things we are at odds over and it's hard to figure out what to do because we are both LOs parents so I can't just claim Default deciding power . Oddly enough he was the one that encouraged me on the cosleeping. Is there a specific thing he is against? I'd say maybe bring it up again when you have time to talk it out. Show him the article and let him know important to you that he just read it. No expectations. Just that he read it and let you know his thoughts. At least then you both know the research. Dr Sears talks about how they did a study looking at the breathing habits of momma and baby and baby has more sleep apnea events when sleeping along vs next to momma. Has to do with the CO2 momma produces. And how mom as brain chemistry changes when baby is born and she essentially sleeps like a baby (very. Light, short rem cycles) till baby sleeps like an adult (deeper with longer rem cycles)
