Unless you work in an immunology lab or for the CDC or similar agency or ACIP (the people who make the vaccine schedule), you do not need to "research" vaccines.
(my UOs today clearly brought to you by the anti vaxxers on facebook).
Yes. I am so sick of people googling and calling it research. Even if you were to find unbiased info, you more than likely won't be able to interpret the findings on your own. That's why you choose a provider you trust.
1. Nothing is "chemical-free". If it is, it doesn't fucking exist. Seriously. Stop misusing the word.
2. Vaccines should be mandatory for school if not 100% mandatory. (excepting TRUE medical reasons. Not "my kid is a special snowflake "medical" reasons".)
3. Not vaccinating your child should be considered medical neglect and you should get in a shitload of trouble if said child gets sick with a vaccine-preventable disease(VPD). (and charged with manslaughter if said child dies from a VPD).
4. If your non-vaccinated child causes an infant too young for a vaccine to be exposed to a disease, you should be liable for all medical bills, etc for that child (and more).
Preach. I can't even take my dog to the groomers without giving his vaccine and vet info. The idea that unvaccinated kids are allowed in schools infuriates me. Legitimate medical exceptions are one thing. You don't want to expose your kids to the big scary vaccines? Fine, but keep them at home and quit putting others at risk.
I'm sure you are much smarter than me in this arena, so would you mind sharing what common chemicals are actually harmful to people then? I mean, we might be encountering these chemicals in everyday life, but to me, that doesn't necessarily mean they're safe. I'm not going to guzzle a gallon of bleach because death.
Well, not really. Because the fact is that it isn't just a list-like answer -- "the poison is in the dose". Even water can be toxic if you drink too much of it - and water is generally considered pretty benign/necessary. Yeah, drinking straight bleach is a terrible idea - but a single drop of bleach to disinfect a gallon of water if you are somehow stuck without clean drinking water? Not terrible. Formaldehyde is another example - I don't know exact amounts, but the amount in a pear will not hurt you (and is higher than the amount in a vaccine). Our bodies are constantly making and processing formaldehyde as a part of daily living. But, too much is bad, because the body's machinery is only made to handle certain amounts.
It's all about dose and limiting exposures to things that are actually harmful. But to assume that something is "harmful" because it is synthetic and "safe" because it is "natural" is a clear fallacy that gets used too much these days (hemlock is natural...it'll still kill you).

I sort of hate this argument. I get what you are saying and you are correct, but when people refer to "chemicals" they are 99.9% of the time referring to harmful chemicals. So maybe it is a misuse of the word, but really it's just semantics that are being argued, not the safety of "chemicals".
Some chemicals are only harmful under specific circumstances, and can have multiple uses across various industries. In my opinion fear mongering has occurred about many compounds and their uses, making people freak out unnecessarily.
ETA: I wrote this before I saw theresat858 's responses. Sorry!!!!!!!

My rainbow arrived 10/15/14.
5 cycles of "TTC" - 3 intentional, 2 not so intentional. 5 BFPs.

Some People believe anything they read on the Internet. It's quite sad and it's becoming increasingly harmful to society.

Nowadays everyone thinks they are an expert in everything. The anti-vax movement is where it is due to the internet.

This all makes sense and I agree with you. But isn't the argument against the "harmful chemicals" exactly that it is unknown (to the average person) how much exposure is actually dangerous? Toxins build up in the body but how do you know when you've been exposed to too much of it? My previous example of drinking a gallon of bleach was over the top, obviously that isn't safe. But when people are concerned with using "chemicals" I would wager that they are talking about the harmful chemicals that can be detrimental to a person.
Oh yeah, love the "research chart" my DH's cousin posted showing at the top 1 in 88 children gets Autism then some other random ratios of contracting diseases with 1 in 1,000,000 people get measles. I read it thinking three things:
1) Correlation does not equal causation, and if you really believe not vaxing your kids is based on science, do better
2) You're kind of proving all the pro-vax parents right that there isn't a tie between Autism and the MMR because vaccinating is on the decline but Autism is on the rise according to your science
3) The expansion of the ASD umbrella is so broad now, that kids classified as ASD would never have been 5 years ago. DH has a cousin who clearly has aspergers, my sister and SIL, who give special ed (not medical) diagnosi for ASD for our county, have met him and agree, yet he's never been diagnosed with either because he's over 40 and back when he was in school he was just labeled quirky. PS, he's married and has a great job, so clearly ASD is not the worst thing that could happen to your child. I have my suspicions about his mother as well. MIL had an uncle they labeled as mentally retarded/idiot savant (her grandparent's words) because he would throw fits in public according to her grandparents. You know what they did, they never took him out in public. The man could take entire tractors apart just to put them back together, and he could fix anything without explanation or experience if it had an engine, but he couldn't hold a conversation. Do you think he had an ASD diagnosis in 1925? No. Would he be on the spectrum today? Absolutely.
hecklet I agree it's really hard to keep up! I gave up after page one yesterday for Randoms because I didn't make it to the thread until 3pm.
ashie0610 I sort of agree. The way I look at it is that we all have different views on God, but we won't know until it's too late to matter, so why argue?
kellrr Have you seen the ones at Dillard's? Holy crap they are nice!
heartwood oh-ho the Wells Fargo wagon is a-coming down the street...
theresat858 agreed on all counts! Water is a chemical...doesn't make it bad for you. And the vaccine stuff...
pnwlover12 you also have a point, but I really don't think that was what theresat858 was getting at. But yeah...Oxygen is healthy for us. So is Ozone, but not for breathing. But it really is all about amounts. It's one of the reasons that EWG annoys the crap out of me because it talks about liver damage and the like without specifying in what quantity.
Also the JBF sales are hit or miss. The best day to go is the last day of the sale where most items are 50% off. The last one I went to I spent $35 and got about 30 clothing items and a puzzle for Layla that was brand new.
I've honestly never paid that much for anything at Carters. It seems like every day is a sale, so I never pay full price. I just bought a bunch of sleepers for $3.99 each. My mom went yesterday and bought a bunch of stuff 40% off and got an extra 10% off because Wednesday is Grandparents Day.
I'll have to remember that about grandparents day! I rarely buy directly from Carter's, and when I do, it's always on sale (like, half off or more). I got a lot of DS clothes at a second hand store (Once Upon A Child) where onesies are 10 for $10, and the little sets with onesie, pants and a jacket are $4-5. The used Carters/Just One Year by Carters stuff held up best. I get what people are saying about the phrases. I'm not "Mommy" so all that stuff is sort of eye-roll worthy, but I like the bright colors, and little animals, and matchy sets. I am not the silly type at all, but babies are the only people for whom stupid animal pajamas are appropriate, so live it up DS!
My UO since we are talking about FB: Unless it's something that is sensationalized and presented like its brand new, people need to get off their high horse about sharing old articles on FB. Just because it didn't happen yesterday doesn't mean it's not something worth reading.
DH hates the public acknowledgements from people he doesn't know so he either disables his walls in his birthday or changes the date often so he never actually has a birthday on it.
I guess its just my crazy, attention-seeking SM. But wow, did I get a bunch of messages from her, my granny, my step sister, etc telling me I should have posted Hbd wishes on her wall.

Nowadays everyone thinks they are an expert in everything. The anti-vax movement is where it is due to the internet.
And the crazy news cycle. I was watching a show the other day about an anti-vax dr who is being interviewed everywhere (CNN, etc.). He LOVES his new fame. He isn't even a dr within the specialty. I believe he's a cardiologist who is now practicing holistic medicine. WHY DO YOU CALL HIM AN EXPERT ON VACCINES?? Not that doctors don't have general knowledge but find an EXPERT ON THE TOPIC, please!
I'm so-so with Carters. I'm torn because I feel like our newborn selection in Children's Place needs a lot of help and we're just not adding to that assortment soon enough.
