I have been diagnosed DOR and our first IVF round I was cancelled because I only had one follicle grow. I am 30, H is 34 we have been TTC since October 2013
I have two sisters both older and both with children and they are done having their own. Both have offered to do egg donation for me.
I just wanted some advice on family dinamics and how to get over the "weird" factor. My RE told me genetically my eggs and my sisters eggs are exactly the same. There is no difference between them. But we are human and it can be hard for a person to get over the fact it's their egg, therefore their biological child...
Did any of you look into using siblings eggs and decide to find an anonymous donor instead?
If we use an outside donor I have time, but if we decide to go with one of my sisters we need to decide sooner rather than later since one is 34 and one 36.
I told my husband I would only go through two rounds of IVF with my own eggs before moving to a donor.
Also what kind of costs is it for an anonymous donor? My RE said if we used my sister it would only be about the same as an IVF cycle for me, just a few added meds, about 20k total. Just trying to understand the difference in cost.
Thank you ladies. This is such an emotional and stressful time, so the insight from those who have been there is greatly appreciated.
Hi No Display, I can't speak to using eggs from a family member as we didn't go that route nor was it something that was a consideration for us.
We did use anonymous donor eggs. My RE only works with a specific egg bank so that made the process a bit less daunting for us. The cost was the same as if we had done a fresh transfer using our own eggs ($20K). Actually a bit cheaper because there were less meds. The egg bank we used spreads the cost out so everyone pays the same read less of how much meds, ultrasounds, etc the donor needed. The donor eggs are all frozen so they are ready whenever the recipient is.

We discussed using my sister's eggs (twin sister), but in the end ended up going with donor embryos instead. For me it wasn't so much the weird factor of using her eggs that bothered me, but more of knowing I would be watching her do something that I couldn't do. In addition my sister did have a miscarriage between her two children, I'm sure it was a fluke, but I wouldn't want to spend lots of money on IVF with her eggs to end up in the same place we were with using my eggs.
The cost of anonymous donor really depends on how you find your donor. Generally if your clinic has an anonymous program that is going to be cheaper than if you go through an agency. There are also options for frozen donor eggs, but sometimes success rates aren't as high because the freezing and thawing of eggs is something not all clinics are experienced at yet. Frozen donor eggs are typically less expensive than using a fresh donor.

Hi! I don't have a sister so that wasn't an option for us.
Like I mentioned to you before, we were matched with an anonymous donor from a pool at our clinic. We were on a waiting list and waited 4 months to be matched. Our donor is a 26 year old RN who is married and has one child of her own. The only thing I was uncertain about was her height. She is 5'5 and I am 5'10. I am hoping she has some tall genes in her family so our child will be somewhat tall. But, I guess she looks a lot like me and that's why we were matched with her. Our package we bought for a fresh donor cycle was 26k. We had success on an FET so we had to pay for more meds for me and the actual transfer part.
I dont think our clinic accepts donors that are over 30 due to decline in fertility etc. I personally would go the route we did again as opposed to going through an agency or using a friend. If you are going to ask your sisters I would do it ASAP because of their ages. Please message me with any more questions. I'm here for you!!

No Display, we are using donor eggs and did briefly consider my younger sister or a cousin. Honestly I just couldn't get past someone in my family being our egg donor. It's not logical but I feared I would always feel "less" whenever we were around that person. We are doing a fresh cycle so that we can have PGS performed on the embryos, we are also having nanobead selection and embryo glue with FET (covering all the bases!!) Our total cost is around 20k.
