A cold glass of water sounds amazing right now. The water at work isn't as good as home though. Right now I'm just drinking tea and not working like I should be.
Morning! I am normally not one to drink a lot during the day...usually just with meals/snacks. I have to force myself to drink more water & juice during pregnancy.
I have my 11/12 week check-up this morning, hoping to hear the heartbeat this time:)
I have discovered the perfect breakfast (besides Chick Fil A, of course). Cheese toast. So delicious.
danib I am sorry y'all are still dealing with snow. My Floridian self is cringing.

I went down to get a bagel and asked a couple people in my group if they wanted anything as I was walking by. My coworker said "I thought you didn't like bagels. Are you pregnant?" I said no and she just laughed. I'm getting close to telling everyone at work but not like that!
I really have to force myself to drink. Water is terrible still so lots of milk, tea, and juice. I almost never feel thirsty, but I know I need to drink more. I'm really ready to stop feeling so sick.
It's raining again and my dog is sad. He loves playing outside and it's been so wet he hasn't gotten a lot of outside time. It also makes errands difficult. I love the rain, but only when I have nothing to do which is basically never nowadays.
Ready for it to be tomorrow so I can have my appointment and DH is taking off the day. We are going to a nearby city famous for bbq. Hopefully I feel well enough to enjoy it.
goldenlove3, I have to pick up some prescriptions on the way home and it's a block away from a true bagel shop, not a chain. Thank you for giving me inspiration for my next meal! (Though I'll probably have to skip my Salsa Jalapeño bagel with spicy veggie cream cheese that is my regular order. Womp, womb.)
LizInFL, have a great appointment! peanutmuse, great news that you're headed home today!
I'm starting to freak out a little about how much shit I have to get done today and tomorrow, since next week I'm going to be working remotely from my parents' house in NJ all week. Eeek!! I am probably going to have to be MIA until tonight--hope everyone has a good day!
I still feel shitty bc flu but at least DD did a 4-hour stretch last night and didn't cough at all! I'll be on the phone a lot today. I'm looking to start a nursing program in August. I have 2 bachelor's degrees already so the program is only 15 months and online so I'll be able to stay home with my A15 and N16 babies until the littlest is ~14 months.
I need to get over this flu so I can go to the lab for bloodwork.

Good morning ladies!
I have my first appointment today, of course I scheduled it for the end of the day, which means my work day is just going to drag by.
I feel like I'm always thirsty. I love water, especially ice cold water. I drink way more during the work day since I have a giant water bottle sitting on my desk, and the water at work is really good.
Also, I would do anything for an Asiago cheese bagel right about now.

Ugh I haven't felt great the past couple days. Symptoms really do come and go because I felt awesome all week 8!
I am pretty good at drinking water. I have a 24oz tervis at my desk and I fill it at least twice during the work day. Plus I normally have an unsweet tea at lunch.
Good day. Had our appointment this morning heard the heart beat. Yay! Also gave me a sample of antinausea meds I don't know is she is just free with handing them out when I said nausea was constant or if it's because I have lost 10# (although weight wasn't mentioned). Either way it's basically what I have been doing - a combo drug for b6 and unisom so I am not sure it's going to make that much difference.
And speaking of nausea. Only pregnancy could make water spontaneously taste absolutely disgusting. I told H it tastes like farts now how lovely. I thought it was just Boston water since it started this weekend, nope our house water is the same. So needless to say I am not drinking enough and any sugary drink makes me sick so this is fun.

aggiebug My experience was that the diclegis worked better than unisom+b6. But diclegis is super expensive and my insurance won't cover it. There is a way to get it cheaper through the company, but I thought I'd be at the end of feeling sick, not getting worse again. Regretting trying to ride it out with the unisom+b6. Hope the diclegis helps you!

Good to know! And now I am really appreciative of the free samples! Stupid insurance oyi.
Mine went well, too...I got a bit misty-eyed hearing that heartbeat. I don't think I was that way with DS, not that I wasn't thrilled...but I think now as a more experienced mom, I know so many more women who have experienced miscarriages, fertility issues and difficult pregnancies, that it seems a little more precious? Idk if that makes sense!

Lots of appts today! Hope for continued good news!
I'm sitting here waiting for IT to come help my laptop since it won't turn on, but need to get lunch, but don't want to miss them. Grr. Irony is that I literally sit in the IT dept, but I don't know who actually can help me.
Speaking if thirsty, I am drinking iced coffee as I type this. I have not had the stomach for coffee in 6 weeks and today it sounded so delicious and I was right. I'm a happy girl right now. Hopefully this means I'm turning a corner.
So my husband just found out he has to travel next week, our next ultrasound is scheduled for next Thursday and because the dates for this ultrasound matter I can't push it back. So because of that we have definitely decided to do an elective and will hopefully find out the sex around 15 weeks. He said waiting until 20 weeks to see the baby again was too long for him. Feels a bit like cheating but now that we have decided to find out early I am excited! That's just a few weeks away.
A genetic test? (clarifying you aren't talking about the meds I discussed above!) I am actually not sure ours is either, but they have an agreement with my ob office and will cover the cost if insurance doesn't pay. Last time I had a panic attack when we got the bill but the ob took care of it.
Me and H skipped work today and it was just what the doctor ordered. It's sunny and 70 and the perfect day! I usually eat pretty healthy but today I've been a ravenous beast. First breakfast was a cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with butter, second was a crispy chicken sandwich, french fries, and a chocolate frosty from Wendy's. And then lunch was a black bean and rice burrito. My god, I need to pump the breaks. I'm never this hungry, hopefully it's a one off. But those fries dipped in the frosty - perfection!
I'm so glad everyone's appointments went well!! And especially happy that peanutmuse is going home!!
How do I look into elective ultrasound to find out the gender early?

tgrimes1980 my doctor now offers Verifi or something out of pocket for $400, but if over 35 they do Maternti one. I am 33, so we are going to skip it unless the NT scan isn't great. I feel cheap, but our anatomy scan isn't covered by Aetna, so that will be a nice $650 bill unless they can find a way to code it differently (they did last time after I cried for the billing lady).

Ha ha ha. Yes, the genetic test. I declined it with DD but my OB suggested I do it this time because of my age. I called the provider they use & it's out of network. I do not want to pay my out of network deductible & another $260 on top of that.
Ugh bummer. We would decline if it wasn't free since it we would still continue with the pregnancy. However I am happy for information when I can get it.
I was actually going to post earlier today and ask about the various genetic testing...
Are any of y'all planning to do (or have you done) the NT screen? Or any of the elective testing for 2nd T? We declined with our first pregnancy--it's not covered by insurance and I was just kind of blissfully naive--and I had planned to decline this time around, as well.
However, based on something that recently happened to some friends of ours, I'm reconsidering. The one she mentioned today for 2ndT is just a blood test, whereas I guess the NT screen is blood and ultrasound?

We skipped the NT test and basically anything not covered by insurance. On one had I really like the information and the peace of mind it can bring however I know it would not be something that would cause me to terminate a pregnancy and so it could be a lot of money for information that would not change the outcome. There is always the benefit of being prepared which can be huge, but wasn't worth the $2000 for all the tests.
I also know a local nestie who went through hell with the testing and ended up doing 3 or 4 tests with awful results and poor prognosis type findings and ended with an amnio that said everything was normal and now has a perfectly healthy baby boy. I mean we are talking a less than 5% chance of normal type stuff so sometimes the info can cause much unwarranted stress.
LizInFL That's correct. I know vinolove is going to do the NT scan.
I guess where my dilemma lies is, findings that would turn up now would probably also show up at the A/S, maybe more of the physical manifestation of some of the syndromes? So you still have 20 weeks to do more testing, prepare emotionally and health-wise, consult with specialists, etc. if necessary. Right?
I guess these are things I should have discussed more with my OB. Oops.
I don't know that I would terminate a pregnancy, so I guess I'm just thinking, what is waiting another 6-8 weeks for the A/S, except for the peace of mind I'd get earlier. KWIM? I don't know if i'm making sense, haha.

Yes most everything seen on an nt scan will be picked up on an a/s. If they find something abnormal they will likely recommend an amniocentesis for definitive testing and possibly more blood work like the panorama scan. Not sure about coverage of those tests after results are found.
aggiebug our insurance is pretty comprehensive and will cover the testing if you're considered high-risk, and/or if the initial elective tests turn up any issues. I'm more just thinking, is it worth spending the money now, or just waitingtil the A/S (which is covered). I'd be fine with a couple/few hundred but DNW to spend more than that bc we are low-risk and I realize the odds are likely good that everything is ok.

Congrats on the good appts today ladies and yay peanutmuse for getting to go home today. I had an appointment this morning and also heard the HB. It took the midwife forever to find it. Apparently my uterus is super retroverted which makes it a lot harder to find
Ugh the late first tri/early second tri testing has always been challenging for me. I'm 30 and my insurance doesn't cover most "special testing" as they don't consider it medically necessary. I didn't have an additional testing with DS. Had an early dating US and then AS at 22 weeks.
I really debated this time around. The biggest reason I considered it is the possibility to find out the sex. When we lost Robin, it was the thing that was most important to me, not quite sure why. Somehow I felt like it would give me more closure to know boy or girl so we could name him or her and think of them in that way. We were lucky, though, because the testing they did after I miscarried was able to give us the answer.
In the end, we decided we are going to do a level 2 ultrasound but not doing any of the additional blood tests. After tons of testing after my loss, they determined it was an issue with either my cord or placenta. So even though I know this is unlikely to happen a second time I think a level 2 ultrasound will give me some peace of mind.
I think the whole whether or not to test debate is just a total "you do you." Do what feels right to you and your SO.
