Whew. I'm so relieved to see that other people just use regular Tide and haven't had any issues. That's my plan since it's what we already use. I'm not going to go buy special detergent for the babies unless it's necessary.
We use all free and clear for everyone. I agree with others it's just easier! I also use the free and clear fabric sheets. I'm pretty sensitive to detergent myself especially regular Tide so it works out.
Any of the larger breasted ladies have a sleep nursing bra that gives them coverage and a tiny bit of support? I tried on an extra large medela the other day and it might have actually been worse than nothing. Spilling out the sides, zero support. Definitely not made for someone like me! It doesn't really have to be a sleep bra specifically. I'm mostly just looking for something that I can wear with visitors in the hospital or even at home that is as comfortable as possible and holds me somewhat in place. I'm a 38F at the moment.
I haven't found any that offer great support but I actually still like the flimsy ones you can get in 2 packs at target. I found them useful for holding in nursing pads at night while remaining very comfortable. I did however LOVE the bravado nursing tanks. They come in bra sizes up through an F or G cup (although I wear an h and made the biggest cup size work because they are that awesome). Truly good support, even without a bra and the material is thick so I actually felt like it sort of contained most postpartum belly a bit too. Worth the money!
Update: You are my hero! I ordered one of these to see if it worked for me and it's exactly what I want. Comfortable but contains enough that I won't feel awkward hanging out in front of family and friends in it. I'm going to get a few for the summer.

I've been living in the bravado nursing tanks postpartum. I don't think I'm going to wear anything else for the next 3 months. I just ordered 2 more.
I didn't think I needed one because we have the crib, pack n play, and one of those co-sleeper things that goes in between our pillows... but our tiny master bedroom isn't actually big enough for the pack n play and I might be too paranoid to put the baby in the co-sleeper OR in their own room right away because the risks they told us about in our newborn care class...

vivela, I'm so glad it is what you were looking for! I have 2 from last time and will totally splurge on a couple more if breastfeeding goes well. I had to exclusively pump last time and I don't think that will last very long with a toddler and baby on hand so I'm restraining myself until I know.

Try looking at Arm's Reach co-sleepers. They are basically a mini pack n play style bassinet, and one side can roll down if you want to pull it up right next to your bed and co sleep without literally co sleeping. It would be impossible to roll over onto this thing.
Ditto ArgyleEnigma. We used the Arms Reach co-sleeper with DS1 and plan to with DS2. We were in a tiny apartment at the time and it didn't take up a ton of space, but it was awesome to have him literally right next to me for middle of the night feedings and still have him in his own space.

GOmamab15, we used it for 4-5 months I think? He was on the smaller side but space for him was never an issue. There are age/size guidelines but I can't remember them offhand. The new Halo bassinet also looks really cool, so that's another one worth looking into!

My friend lent us the halo bassinet. I will say it takes up more floor space than I was hoping. The base "x" is pretty big

This! Halo bassinet swivel sleeper We have the same issue with the pnp being too big for our master. This is awesome bc she can be right up next to the bed. It also has a high weight limit and up to 5 months, so it's totally usable until we are ready to transition her to her room.

We also had the arm's reach (and plan to use it again--I loved it), and she was in it for four months. And she was not on the smaller side. She probably could have stayed a little longer, but we were ready to transition her to the crib.
Like packerfan4life and happyday, I have the Halo Bassinet. I will second what Packerfan said about the floor base being huge. It's designed that way to prevent tip over, but it takes up a lot of space nonetheless. Part of the base can fits under my bed so that helps minimize the amount of floor space it occupies. .
I can't really recommend it yet as I haven't used it, but we plan on using the Chicco Luggago portable bassinet for the first 4 months or so. It's actually a little larger than it looks which is good as it wil last a little longer, but still smaller than a pack n play. I like it set it up though and it's very easy to move from room to room as needed.

It's not nearly so bad when you pull it up next to your bed! The legs go under our bed and i think I'll be perfect. (And sturdy!)

This is my only negative on the halo bassinet. It's not moveable from room. I'm okay with it bc I have a a rock n play and swing to put her in when I want to be able to see her. Also, I think having dd1 running though the house like a banshee may make me want the baby to nap in a quiet room, alone.
Can anyone recommend a summer friendly baby carrier? I have two Ergos with infant inserts, one is new and one is a hand-me-down from framily, but considering this baby is coming in June, I'm thinking I need a more summer friendly option for at least the first few months. I'm thinking of getting the K'tan Breeze (the mesh one) because it seems to have good reviews and is widely available. Any thoughts on the K'tan? Other options?
Sorry if this question has been asked before! I tried the search feature and it just kept crashing.

tumbleweed, I have the k'tan breeze and it seems pretty good! My main issue with it is that it seems too big for my 5.5lb baby. I'll keep fiddling with it though...
Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for hearing protection? We want to go see fireworks and go to some sporting events and I want to make sure baby's hearing is protected. The Baby Banz brand seems to have good reviews on Amazon. Does anyone have these or another type of headphones?

I bought a linen ring sling. For our older DD we have a kinderpack with koolnit that I love and she doesn't seem to overheat. The ergo with infant insert is hot! I think Lillebaby and Tula both have mesh carriers as well.

tumbleweed, i've seen some moms really in love with their lillebaby airflows... I don't have an airflow myself, but seems like a good hot-weather option!

We have these and they worked well for the first 7 or so months! My kid is super stubborn though and after that point immediately started yanking them off. He also does this with hats and sunglasses though so I don't think they are uncomfortable, he just hates stuff on his head. ETA: We also have some by Ems 4 bubs (something like that) from amazon that stayed on better when DS was really little. They are a stretchy band that goes around the head like a sweatband but still have the big earmuffs. I have a photo of DS sleeping through a MLB game when he was about 4 months old in them.

Cool thanks, I'm going to look into both of these types! I went to the Ems website and it looks like the head band style might be best for when they are really little. Plus they have cool patterns!

Thanks sandandsea! I thought you'd know about this since I know you've mentioned before that your DH races. Just curious, to what age are you planning on having your older DS wear headphones? DH and I were discussing this recently and the only consensus we could come up with was that neither of our parents would have ever put headphones on us! I'm not sure if there are any guidelines out there for this kind of thing.
I thought about getting DS the baby banz when we went to see snowmobiles on water but he was 11 months old and I figured he would just take them off and it would be a big waste of money.
We ended up using the squishy adult ear plugs that you twist and insert into the ear because we just happened to have some laying around. I think they make kid and baby sized ones though. DS left them in and actually slept through the stunt show. They are super cheap so they might be a good back up if the baby banz seem to bother.

DS is 4 and now he just grabs them when he wants them and we really let him self-regulate now. He will also just cover his ears now if it's too loud. So, we still have them and use them and have them available the whole time, but we don't mandate that he wear them.
