I can't believe I read all 16 pages. I lived, I learned, I laughed, I cried....
I have a lighthearted confession: I think I have an Internet crush on saltyh2O. Also snapdragon is a pretty classy lady. At the risk of sounding "cliquey", I have a lot of love for the May 15 board, even though I may not get on to post as much as I would like to. Thanks ladies for keeping it real.
I know a mother (in Dominican Republic) that gave birth to a baby boy and I'm not 100% sure what was wrong with the baby but they didn't let her keep it. Apparently the call it a "defected baby" and it's put to sleep. Now I don't know details and I know it's not the same as DS, but things like this are common in other countries apparently. It makes me very sad.
I also have a cousin with a son that has autism, he also lives in DR. His son doesn't get all the help they offer kids with autism here. We have been trying to get him help through programs here, but it's just not the same.
Is "put to sleep" your choice of words or a quote? I find the use of a euphemism in this situation extremely offensive. A child was KILLED.
I was actually finding it very hard to find words that wouldn't sound cruel. I didn't want to say they take the child and kill it. I was trying to be sensitive, but alas I failed. I am sorry if I offended you.

I don't like the phrase either. I think it's similar to what people say for euthanizeing a pet. I don't like using that phrase or "put down" for pets either.
I'm sorry I was trying not to sound harsh and just say they take her child and kill it. I should have worded it better, but I couldn't find the words.
